The first episode premiered today on FX, was wondering if anyone caught it and has any thoughts. For those who are unfamiliar, they use advanced makeup artists to turn some white people into blacks and vice versa. They then get filmed living the life of the opposite race and learn what it's like. I caught about twenty minutes of it and it seemed like a good watch.

I thought it was interesting. The white dad is a moron though. So is the son of the black family. Seems both have no interest in actually doing it. The white daughter seems to be getting into it and her dad could learn a lot from her in this little game. But yeah, so far it looks interesting. I will say that I am amazed at some of the things I saw. I know racism still occurs out there but it surprised me at what the one guy in the white focus group said and what the white guy said to the Black guy (who was made up as a white person at that time) said to him about how the neighborhood was safe since there were no Black people in it. Amazing. What I missed is where are they?

It was a great show, I'm gonna love the whole season. My thoughts are as follows. Racism is sad, but still exists. That being said, what the white dad said is not completely wrong. I was listening a national radio show hosted by a black man, and he had a bunch of black guests on and they were talking about racism. One man moved from Detroit to Madison, WI. He said that for the first year he was there, Madison was the most racist town he had ever been to. Everyone was always staring at him and giving him dirty looks. And then one day he was in a restaurant and noticed that HE was staring at people too. And that the same white people that were staring at him, were also staring at other white people. And he discovered that that is what people do, they look at other people. Once he realized this, he determined that racism exists only minimally where he now lives, and that he has never once, since then, felt racism in Madison. He even encouraged other blacks to move there, because everyone is so nice and the crime rate is so low.I think that this is kind of what the white dad was talking about. HOW the white dad says things is just stupid though... what an idiot. He should be WAY more sensitive. When they were walking down the street as black men, the real black man was really just seeing things that weren't there. The camera shot was very telling. The black son is stupid. He's totally not into it. But in his defense... WHY THE FU.CK DID THEY GO TO THE STUPID ETIQUETTE CLASS!?!?!? I don't know ONE white person that wouldn't be bored to tears in that ****ing class. And what's worse is that black people think that white people just like hanging out in some gay class about etiquette. The white girl is awesome. Very cool. The black people and the white people both think she is great. The white mom is annoying. The black mom is... I don't know.. I have no opinion of her yet.I can hardly wait for the next episode. GREAT IDEA!!!

I don't think Bruno (White Dad) is completely wrong but he seems unwilling to see the Black dads point of view. I mean ****, the white focus group that the black family was in where the one guy was shaking telling the story of having to shake a black guys hand. It's out there and Bruno doesn't seem to fully want to admit that it is. But it is. I get it all the time where I work. I work near Detroit and my white tenants always come into my office to say things like, "Geez, what is with all the new people moving in being black. Man have times changed, this was a nice quiet community and now this" WTF? 1. Why do you automatically assume that since I am white that I would agree or appreciate hearing such ignorant statements. 2. The tenants we have trouble with around here are the white tenants. 3. If I ever turned down a qualified tenant due to their skin then I got more problems than being a bigot. One lady came in and told me that we should segregate the complex. But the blacks in this building, whites in that buidling, and Arabs in the other building. It would make all races happy. My question to her was, "Where do I put the Korean Family?"
