Book Review: The Man With The 100,000 Breasts And Other Gambling Stories.

If you're like me, you're always looking for a good story to read about poker or gambling. I got a gift card from work and found this book by Michael Konik on the Strand Books website. The title of book is great and will draw you in but for the most part I found the stories to be a tad bid boring. Maybe it's me but Konik's style of writing isn't all that engaging. I never laughed out loud and he never revealed anything that was over the top exciting. Granted the book was published in the mid 90s but still it left me disappointed.The book is broken into 7 different chapters.The intro chapter is about Brian Zembic. He's the guy who has got the 100k boobs. The story surrounding the bet sounds pretty typical. The only difference is what was at the end of the rainbow. Just by reading the story you could tell that Zembic liked having the breasts and that he was going to keep them. I think it's 10 years later and he still has them. (There's a pic in the book of Zembic with his shirt off.) The two chapters I found the most interesting were: At the Racetrack and Sports Betting. At the race track was interesting because I had never heard of Andy Beyer. Interesting but barely. The other chapter I read that was ok was the chapter on sports betting. I believe Konik came out with a more detailed book on sports betting. This chapter is only about 20 pages long. One game picker let his 3 year old son pick NFL games. A couple of weeks the tike went undefeated. There was also a chapter on Poker. It profiled Phil Hellmuth and Huck Seed but both chapters were boring. Nothing new. Overall, I can't recommend the book. I think if you see it in the bargain bin or at the library it might be worth a browse. But otherwise save your money2 stars out of 5Thanks for readingJoe

I read the other Konik book... the one mostly about his gambling experiences... i have to google it to remember the name... (2 mins later)Telling Lies and Getting PaidI can't even remember anything remotely interesting about itreally. I thought I was really going to like Konik's book since i really enjoy his poker commentary, but I didn't like it much at all. I have his golf book: In Search of Burning Bush, but I haven't even cracked it yet because i'm scared of how bored i might get.The last book I really enjoyed was Rick Reily's "Who's Your Caddy?" He went out for a summer caddying for golfers. everyone from Nicklaus to Donald Trump. My favorite was his chapter about Dewey Tomko. I'm pretty sure the book was written before the poker boom, so it's an interesting take on the subject...Right now I'm reading the Full Tilt Tournament Strategy Guide... It's pretty good... nothing groundbreaking yet though. I do enjoy that it's all about tournaments though. I've read a lot of books this year. 40 mins each way on the subway each day makes you a big fan of books.
