Haha, I too was taken aback when I saw him posting 10/20 limit hands in their challenge thread. Who knew the OT people could play cards?

Well, I was there for 5 years. The first 3 were amazing. I was surrounded by really high caliber people, the work was fun, I loved the travel, and they treated us SO well. But the company went public after my 3rd year and things went downhill fast. Its actually pretty brutal on your personal life being gone so much. I was married so it wasn't as big a deal, but the single people basically were just transients who had a really hard time keeping up any kind of a relationship. And the work was crazy at times. I put in 75 hour work weeks somewhat regularly. Also before going public we were paid overtime, which was huge. And there were many times where I'd call Shannon on a Friday lunch and say: Looks like I am not going to make it home this weekend because we have to get this whatever done asap.So anyway, we worked hard, and played hard on those projects, but when they compensated us for it, it was well worth it. When we went public and they didn't anymore, it was not worth it. They still had the same expectations of us (basically, we were their slaves available at any time) but they weren't giving us the same perks. I very very much miss the people. Some of the best times and best friends I had were made on those projects so I miss that. They knew how to hire amazing people. But I wouldn't EVER go back to corporate america anymore. The freedom I have in my life right now is worth way more than the money. I would probably be making slightly more if I would have stayed at Accenture, but I think my personal life would be in shambles, I'd for sure be divorced, and I wouldn't be near as happy.Mark
75 hour weeks do suck. Basically you are working almost twice as much as a normal person and when you aren't making double the money you should, that blows. I can see how the freedom and being able to play poker is so awesome. I dream of it everyday. I live vicariously through the challenge thread.

Holy shit. Who knew that you were a responsible human being?? That's impressive. LOL, I just imagined some dude living in his mom's basement searching porn all day.
That would be Keith_Crime.Normally I don't like to talk shit publicly, but I doubt he'll read this one, lol.

2. Their Companion Pass in unbeatable. Once you qualify for it, your designated companion (wife, friend, cousin, mistress) flies for $5 on any flight that you are on. In my case, my wife flies WHEREVER I go for $10 roundtrip. The last 3 years for my daughters Spring Breaks, we have flown to NYC, DC, and San Diego (last month) for less than $30 each year.http://www.southwest.com/rapid_rewards/companion_pass.html
This is actually really cool. Still f Southwest imo. :club:

No, this was WSOP drama. You spend 6 weeks with him and tell me if you disagree.

Hoos,Actually for folks that fly ALOT....like myself. Their rewards program used to be one of the best in the industry.
FYP. IMO with all the changes in the last 5 years their rewards program is just slightly better than most, and only if you don't ever care about first class. I hate that you don't get double rewards anymore, I personally don't like the business class boarding (but agree its great for people in it), and I don't like that you can't just swap flights on a whim anymore without any monetary penalty. Here is my Southwest RR tickets brag story:So out of college I worked for a big consulting company (Andersen Consulting, now Accenture) I was on a project for a year in La Jolla, which is about a 35 min flight from Phoenix. I'd fly out Monday, come home Friday normally. Was pretty posh, I had an apartment out there, and could fly Shannon out for the weekend if I didn't want to fly home. Anyway, I digress. So I worked in a big office with ocean view (small sliver of ocean but it still sounds cool) with 3 other guys just like me, fresh out of college. Anyway, project was a blast. At the time, you got double RR points for booking online. So one round trip ticket was 4 points. 16 to get a free ticket. So in a month, we'd get a free ticket from our flights. But here was the kicker: We also rented cars. And for about 8 months, Alamo had a thing where you got 3 RR points per car rental. So we were like, ok thats cool, another free ticket every month from car rental. But after about 2 weeks we decided to see if we could return a car the next day and get the 3 RR points again. Sure enough, you could. So every night we'd leave work, go get dinner together, return our cars, get new cars, and go back to our apartments. So we were getting a free ticket a week from car rentals, and a free ticket a month from flying. And you could sell them for about $300/pop so it was like $1500/month extra, which is a lot when you're right out of college. PLUS one of the guys grew up in Del Mar, and his parents still lived there a block from the beach, with a guest house. So he arranged it so he lived in his parents guest house which was super posh, and the client just gave him his monthly housing stipend which was $2K/month or so. So he was banking an extra $3500/month.PLUS when you get 100 credits in a year on SW, you can designate a companion to fly with you for free anywhere you go. So for 3 years straight Shannon could fly free with me.Good times.Mark
See....this man gets it.With Hertz right now, you get 2 credits per rental. The dropping off and returing is a god thins if you are close to the drop point. Only a few locations I can do that with.

About once a year, they will offer double credits to and from certain cities. For a couple of months last year, they offered double credits if you flew inside the state of Florida, needless to say, I went to my Miami market quite a bit.

I've put quite a bit of time and effort in getting decent at this game.I still make mistakes all the time.I'm prob going to get a coach when I get back from Africa for a bit...Meh. There is a level of natural intuition and chit with cards...but a lot is just hard (lol) work and putting in the time.- Jordan
