At the rate things are going, next year there will be a $100 buy in WSOP event were everyone gets 100 in chips with 25-25 blinds. Wouldn't that be fun? :club:
Yes, it would smarty pants...especially a rib-eye.....you could get into that for a good 10,000 and shatter your 2004 record :D

Welcome to the forum. As for the starting stacks, they haven't changed. The WSOP has always been run that way and it isn't a really big problem. The problem lies in that there should be precisely zero $1500 buy in events. These events will get 1500 plus entrants which is nice, but where do we draw the line on the buy in. In 98' the SMALLEST buy in was $2000 and now it's $1000? The buy in's need to go UP not down. The $3000 tournament will start you off with 3000 in chips and 25-25 blinds. Not bad. At the rate things are going, next year there will be a $100 buy in WSOP event were everyone gets 100 in chips with 25-25 blinds. Wouldn't that be fun? :club:
How about a WSOP Freeroll? I could afford that if Daniel let me stay with him for the night.

Poker's all about money. You should embrace what the WSOP draws to Vegas. Blah blah blah.
What you're missing here, is that to the top pros, the WSOP is all about prestige. To DN a $1000 buy-in tournament is as significant money-wise as a $1 tournament is to a 4/8 player. The extra money that comes in in the small buy-in tourneys and 80/160 side games is a joke to someone like Daniel. Ultimately, the point of the WSOP is that it's supposed to be the best players in the world gathered for the world championship of poker. If it loses sight of that, it's no different than any of the other hundreds of poker tournaments that pop up all over the map year round. Oh, and if the top players start thinking of the WSOP as a joke, do you think Joe Poker Player's still going to want to fly down to Vegas and pony up his hard-earned cash to enter? Of course not. The whole reason he's down there is to take on the best players in the world in poker's world championship. If he realizes the whole thing's worthless, he'll keep his $2000 and pay down on a new car or something.

Besides replacing the $1500 events with $3000 events, what other changes are being pushed for? Don't the pros like a significant overlay with all of the dead money in the events, or is it rather because each event is becoming a crap shoot more than a skill based competition? Thoughts DN?
