final table of Pstars 180 person SNG.GUNIT3 is one to my right and is the most aggressive player at the table other than me. he's often been reckless. when he doesnt want to get called he bets more and when his hands are stronger he bets a little less.he's chipleader, i'm #2 [i'm dorian0006]. we've tangled in other hands and its getting personal now.PokerStars Game #3834746237: Tournament #19033324, Hold'em No Limit - Level XIII (1000/2000) - 2006/02/02 - 00:47:43 (ET)Table '19033324 2' Seat #9 is the buttonSeat 1: GUNlT3 (78762 in chips)Seat 2: dorian0006 (49485 in chips)Seat 3: LesterBurnum (39557 in chips)Seat 4: NYC Knight (28830 in chips)Seat 5: RoscoC (11821 in chips)Seat 6: newbie4 (18754 in chips)Seat 8: helby (25697 in chips)Seat 9: Sopris (17094 in chips)GUNlT3: posts the ante 100dorian0006: posts the ante 100LesterBurnum: posts the ante 100NYC Knight: posts the ante 100RoscoC: posts the ante 100newbie4: posts the ante 100helby: posts the ante 100Sopris: posts the ante 100GUNlT3: posts small blind 1000dorian0006: posts big blind 2000*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to dorian0006 [Qc Ts]LesterBurnum: foldsNYC Knight: foldsRoscoC: foldsnewbie4: foldshelby: foldsSopris: foldsGUNlT3: raises 4500 to 6500dorian0006: calls 4500*** FLOP *** [Qd Ad 9s]GUNlT3: bets 72162 and is all-indorian0006: calls 42885 and is all-inRoscoC said, "wow"*** TURN *** [Qd Ad 9s] [Tc]*** RIVER *** [Qd Ad 9s Tc] [Js]*** SHOW DOWN ***GUNlT3: shows [Ac 9h] (two pair, Aces and Nines)dorian0006: shows [Qc Ts] (two pair, Queens and Tens)GUNlT3 collected 99570 from potRoscoC said, "what a call"*** SUMMARY ***Total pot 99570 | Rake 0Board [Qd Ad 9s Tc Js]Seat 1: GUNlT3 (small blind) showed [Ac 9h] and won (99570) with two pair, Aces and NinesSeat 2: dorian0006 (big blind) showed [Qc Ts] and lost with two pair, Queens and TensSeat 3: LesterBurnum folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 4: NYC Knight folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 5: RoscoC folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 6: newbie4 folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 8: helby folded before Flop (didn't bet)Seat 9: Sopris (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)i'm well aware of the many many reasons i should've folded, i had optimal position, good chips, a relatively soft table, and i gave it all up cuz my read told me i was winning, and i was playing to win. i just couldnt see him betting that much with an ace. after the fact it makes sense, the pot was already decent sized and he wanted to end it right there being out of position with a wet board. i called off my whole tourny with middle pair to the only guy at the table who could bust me. [aka dumb and antithetical to my usual smart play]but his bet just didnt make sense at the time. im in the BB on a random hand, if he really has an ace and wants to get paid off why would he bet so much? truth is i didnt give him credit for being smart enough to protect his hand from draws.i just thought there's too many hands he'd make this bet with that i have beat - KJ, JT, JJ, TT, 2 diamonds. and importantly, if im right i have a great chance to win $1080. [although even the drawing hands could still have sucked out] i figured he's thinking that even if i call and beat him, he'll still have decent chips and that with his aggressiveness he could get them back. i did make the wrong decision. u'd think i'd be upset but im not. my reads have been very good lately and i've been following them and having success. i picked a bad time to be wrong.i been reading all the gigabet 2+2 posts, and he says if u trust ur reads u gotta go with them even if it means your whole tourny. Bottom Line - i know i made the wrong decision [not just based on the results], but does anyone think im not totally out of mind for going with my read and going for the win?PS - to pove my point about GUNIT3, when he busted me he had 50% of the chips in play with 8 players left and finished 5th.

I generally agree with your analysis. I think that going with your read is the right decision, however, as you said, calling off your whole tournament in a spot like that was pretty crazy. I don't disagree with your pre-flop call at all, as you're in position and his raise was pretty standard. Also, him pushing on the flop like that really doesn't make any sense to me either. I guess in hindsight its pretty easy to say that you made the wrong choice, however, if I was in your position, based on your description of his play and your read, I probably would have made the same play.

there is no shame in going with a read and getting knocked out when you are wrong. I'd continue to have the same confidence. This huge over bet means something though, and I'd have put that in my notes, as I have found it usually means the same thing in the future.

Yeah, that's definitely something to store away for the future. Regardless of whether or not your opponent tends to bet "a little more" with a hand, that kind of a huge overbet almost always means that they have a hand and they're looking to get called. There's just no reason to put that much effort into bluffing a pot.

If it was me, I would have laid down my hand, but it's not an outrageous decision, based on your read, which was incorrect, unfortunately. No reason to get knocked out going all-in with only 15% of you stack commited and an overcard on the board. Let the biznatch have it and drop the hammer when you have the nuts. However, I also understand the history and that your patience was wearing thin with this guy, so I can't say as I blame you for making the call. It was just not the best decision.
