is this a good idea?

Recommended Posts

The local Indian Casino here in Michigan is having a $200 buy in poker tournament next Friday. My friend is 18, and is a good player, but is in the process of building a bankroll and does not have enough to buy in. I am thinking about staking him, and making a deal where if he cashes, I get my $200 back, then we split whatever is left. Do you guys think this is a good idea?

yea, i mean if you trust him just as long as yall have whats gonna happen if he dont cash
If he doesn't cash, then I lose $200 on my investment. No big deal.

If it's like any other midwest casino then probobly not... The ones I play in around here you start w/ 1500 in tournament chips and blinds at 25/50 and they double every 20 minutes... Crapshoot anyone? You need to win like... 3 50/50's in order to make a run at the final table.

How does one determine that a player is good if they can't put together $200 to play in a tournament? Playing online for .25/.50 isn't the same as playing in a $200 tournament, no way I would let anyone play with my $$$.I'm just saying...

No, 18 is definitely old enough. The whole casino is 18+. I considered getting a fake ID and trying to play, but I know that if I won any significant amount, they would go over it with a fine toothed comb.

Yeah my friend went with us when he was 17 to Canterbury, the lucky kid (he's NOT a winning player by any means.. its a shame he finally realized this) ran up to 650+ by the end of the night and after cashing out for the entire 900, or.. trying too he was given his 250 and the lady said she was going to have someone verify the ID... He left the casino.

Hey JWeb, I know you're busy, just wondering if you're gonna get my blog up. Not complaining, just want to verify that you got my e-mail asking for a blog on your site.

the Indian Casinos around here are all 18 and up...don't know if that's everywhere though
From Americancasinoguide.com:"There are 16 Indian casinos in Michigan...The minimum gambling age is 21 at all Indian casinos except for the following seven where it’s 18: Leelanau Sands, Turtle Creek, Chip-In’s, Ojibwa, Ojibwa II, Lac Vieux and Soaring Eagle..."
