Random question that I thought about after the last time I played in AC. Everyone at the Tropicanna is absolutely deadset on now allowing any string bets and I've even seen a guy enforce an all-in on a guy for having his cards placed behind his chips. Random question: Why are people so strict at the 1/2nl table, but every big tournament i see, they never seem to enforce string bets or keeping your cards in front of your stack?

that's the rule man, No string bets. you can however announce raise, throw the calling chips in the pot, then make the raise. let's face it, string betting is lame... "i see your $10 and raise you $20!" this isn't an old west movie. just say raise and there will be no problem.as for the card placement, that's also a house rule. cards VISIBLE at all times, you can't even keep your hands on top of them. most dealers will warn you at least once if you are covering them, though i have never seen someone forced all in for having them behind their stack. sucks for the guy but i'll bet he never does it again.tournaments are watched much more closely by casino staff than cash games so the rules can be a little more lax. plus if it's a "big" tournament i bet there are cameras too, no?also if you mean "big tournament" as in you've never seen those things enforced on tv, well i assure you they do happen sometimes and are probably edited out. most of the time you just get select hands from the final table anyway. please don't base reality on what you see in big tournaments on tv... but if you meant something different, like your experiences in actually PLAYING big tournaments, then my bad.

No, like i said it was a really random question... I never have a problem with string betting, I've just noticed that it's a weird pet peeve of people's at the casino I play at and a lot of things they get uptight about are what a lot of pros do in Televised tournaments. Example: not counting chips in front of your cards. That happens all the time in televised poker tournaments so I guess that rule wouldn't be getting enforced. Not trying to distort reality. I honestly don't think the camera can make some one's hand appear in front of his chips when it is really behind it.

I see it a lot too... people getting anal about rules violations. But, they are the rules and someone has to be anal about them. They are rules for a reason. I have never seen anyone enfore an all in with cards behind chips or enforce a bet because someone was counting chips in front of their cards. That is rediculus. Justin
