Travel Advice for a planned Las Vegas Trip

Recommended Posts

Hey FolksI am planning on returning to Vegas after a long absence and I was wondering if people could help me out with some information. I am looking at going for a 4 day trip and was wondering if anyone knew where / how to get the best travel deal ( I am coming from Toronto Canada ) Is it better to pick up a last minute flight and hotel package or just better to get the cheap flight and find the hotel when I get there sort of deal???Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also what would be the best day of the week to leave ? ( rate wise if anyone knows )Thanks BigSlick

Well since you like poker, I would highly consider staying at one of the casinos that provides poker room discounts, assuming you will be able to put un the required hours of play in the cardroom [usually five hours per day at most places, but may be less or more]As for flights, if I don't book the entire package on expedia, which has been more expensive recently, I'll book flights directly with the airlines and with the hotels. This is what I have done the last two trips, and the one I have coming up in three weeks. As for which airlines fly from Toronto to Las Vegas, I have no clue to be honest. If you have companies like Southwest and America West flying up there they have pretty decent rates. That and Deltea Airlines just announced a 50% rate cut which begins in February I think [might begin now *shrug*]I've never booked last minute flights so I don't know anything about discounts that way. Maybe google the best way to get cheap fares :D

I went down to Vegas on Dec 16th, a Thursday, and stayed until the Sunday. I too, am from Toronto. Your options are Sun-Wed, or Thurs-Sun. The Thurs-Sun days are much busier, and full of action, so I would suggest you go during these days. After a lot of searching, using Travelocity, we found it cheapest to drive down to Buffalo, and fly from there. We paid $525, CAD, and that included flight, plus 3 nights stay at the Monte Carlo. However, looking back, we decided that paying the extra $150-200 each would have been better. Both trips, there and back, included a stopover at a major airport, as Buffalo's airport is a tiny one and has no direct to LV.The flight times were also miserable, as our flight left at 6am on Thursday, and we arrived at noon, Vegas time, so we didn't sleep at all Wednesday night, as we left ourselves plenty of time for potential border/traffic/weather problems, on our drive from TO.We booked our deals 2 months in advance, and saw the prices go up for a while, then the last minute deals dropped off quite a bit, as we saw direct flights from TO costing as little as $550 for the same deal.I would suggest you look last minute, and go Thursday-Sunday. Monte Carlo was just fine. Clean, comfortable, and located perfectly inbetween the NY NY, and the Bellagio.Any other questions fire away. Hope this helps some.jh

going to Vegas tomorrow! From Vancouver BC, we are driving to Seattle and flying Southwest ($79USD each way, and far less taxes than Canada)Staying at the Orleans. Off strip, but they have great poker player rates. And the weekend is busy due to a large electronics convention in town. (rates are huge at the main strip hotels)My first trip with Poker being my main form of wagering... In the past.. Thursday to Sunday is the best time of the week to go. Bigger crowds and more action, but also hotel rates are higher, as are table limits. From what i understand packages are a rip off, especially if you are going down looking for comps etc... Also if going with a group of people, booking your own room avoids the extra charges for multiple people per room.will post once I'm back with the deatails re poker and best games i found. And hopfully i come back with more $$'s in my wallet than I went down with! Wish me luck! And go Seahawks!Ryan

It's kinda a pain and I always feel like a four year old asking for permission or what have you but it really pays to go talk with the floorman and enquir about poker rates. If your willing to play at belagio for example the rate is about 100 a night which seems a little step till you lay your head down on that soft posturpedic matress , I believe the basic room rate is about 350 usually so this is a considerable discount. I have also stayed numerous weeks at the exclusive Boardwalk Hotel, you can usually stay here for real cheap if you lok online, the nice thing about the boardwalk besides the funkyness is that there is lots of good pokewr real close, ie. mirage, bellagio. I think the amount of hour s at the bellagio is something like 50 so if your here for four days that should be perfect, 12 to 15 hours a day, ha ha . Have fun and play good.
