The Leftovers: Delicious And Satisfying Or Stale And Nauseating?

Recommended Posts

my thread, my rules. don't want shit spoiled? stay current or stay away until you are.

i don't understand the thought process where someone comes into a thread discussing a show and says "oh I haven't watched it yet so it is your duty to police what you say so as not to interfere with my experience."

fuck that.

Just saying this is a spoiler zone. What's the difference? It's not like there are going to ever be big questions answered and problems resolved on this show. I saw SA's post before I watched the show but you know whose fault that is? Mine and mine alone because I came into a discussion without having properly prepared. I wouldn't want to belong to a book club where I had to constantly censor my discussion because one or more fellow members didn't keep up with the assigned reading.

Now I will concede that with tv/films adapted from books, it is kind of dickish for the readers to layout the story arc to the viewers without spoiler tagging.

stolen from another forum, in a response to my opinion of Lindelof

Lindelof's pitch to HBO:

"So, I got an idea for a show where something happens which causes other stuff to happen and no one knows why. Then some other stuff happens and no one knows why it happened. Then drama. Then we get some other stuff that might have happened but no one can agree why it happened which causes stuff to happen that no one can explain. Then suspense. Someone thinks they know what happened but isnt sure but then something happens to them and no one knows why. Then some people blame some other people for what happened but no one knows what their motives are. Then romance. More questions are raised about what happened and why no one knows why it happened. Then something big happens and people go crazy because they dont know what is happening then the people who think they know what happened happen across people who dont know what happened and are forced to decide to join the ones who think they know what happened or something will happen to them."

Me too, BigD. And they're not really trying to make you sympathize with anyone, which makes it even easier to enjoy all the misery. I'm liking all the little god-ish interactions too, as long as the show doesn't end up getting bogged down in them.

Me too. Lotta good stuff going on. I love that the EP's got out in front and said don't worry about the mystery, it's not going to be solved. Lets all of the plots breathe at their own pace. Even Tommy (is that his name? I feel like it has to be) finally got a decent development to go with. And the acting, in general, has been superb, which I think a show like this needs.

That did make me laugh. I really enjoyed that episode, because they started out showing how Idyllic life was before it was destroyed, and then showed how Idyllic it wasn't. Love this show. The FDS was interesting

Nice to know god is officially pro-life!

i get it for what it is now. it's cynic porn. everybody is just a shitty person and the only point is to show people doing shitty things.
