SBriand 4
Do I have to buy this through Amazon or do stores carry it? You can buy them in stores around here but I don't know about the great white north. You can buy them at best Buy and I think I have seen them at Target.

Dubey 1,035
So, anyone have experience with using an e-reader in the dark. Does it give you a headache?
SBriand 4
So, anyone have experience with using an e-reader in the dark. Does it give you a headache?I was reading Liz's Kindle in bed last night. I bought her a case for it and it has a light and it works perfectly and the light is powered by the Kindle.Just took this pic to show but obviously it is not dark to show it in full effect but the light is strong enough to light the entire "page". Works a 1000 times better than the regular book light I have for reading a regular book.

Liz's kindle is $139.There is a price difference. Also, you can't read the iPad outside.Edit: It is a hard choice though. I am not a fan of the iPad because I have no need for it. My dad is getting Liz one for Xmas so I will probably (hopefully) end up with her kindle. I don't see her need for an iPad because she has a iTouch, a laptop, and a Kindle already. If you don't have those three things then yes, by all means, grab an iPad.She only has the wifi kindle because she doesn't need 3G coverage. If we go on a trip she sits at home and downloads a bunch of books and then we go. She is also only getting the wifi iPad because she/we don't want to pay $30/month. You can though get a 3G Kindle for $189 and no monthly charge. The new kindle also has a web browser.
digitalmonkey 929
I went with the Kobo ($149 + tax). I thought seriously about an iPad, but I couldn't justify spending $549 + tax, plus a case, etc... I can get a laptop for less.
Suited_Up 2
So, anyone have experience with using an e-reader in the dark. Does it give you a headache? This is a few days old I know, but they're made so they don't actually light up, they look like a normal book page. Not the same as a computer or cell phone. I don't own one, but I saw one in the store, and I thought it was one of those plastic inserts that showed what it would look like, but it was the actual thing turned on. Pretty crazy. Dubey 1,035
Is there a big difference between the $150 e-readers and the $80 ones? I got a future shop gift card for christmas, so I'm thinking of getting one of these. Also, is it easy to get 'torrent' books onto one of these things? For the books you pay for, is there an 'itunes' equivalent for books, or how does that work? I can't comment on any others.I don't know about the availability of torrent ebooks.iTunes has an iBooks section but I don't know how to access it because I didn't buy an iPad. The Kobo came with it's own software to download books from the internet. This response has been of very little help to you.

I know there are torrent books available, because I once downloaded the second Song of ice and fire book from uTorrent to read while I waited for the actual book to arrive from Amazon, I was just wondering if there is some sort of safeguard that prevents ereaders from recognizing these types of files. What is the pricing like for Books on the Kobo? You just need to download calibre and you'll be all set. You just pick which e-reader you're putting the files on (because there are a handful of different types of file that each one reads) and a way to get the file onto the e-reader. The Nook has an sd-card slot, and a usb-connection. It's pretty fantastic.
Suited_Up 2
Got a Kindle a couple days ago. Got a torrent with 973 ebooks. Also have Calibre. It's all good stuff. Currently reading Invisible Monsters
