DeNuts1 0
Playing SnGs on FTP in the range of $1-$10 buy ins. My question is, what is the general consensus on low pairs in late position when there has been a raise early and everyone folds around to you? Say for instance the UTG player raises 3xs the BB and everyone folds to you on the button with anything from 22-55. I mean if I knew both the blinds were gonna come in it would be a pretty easy call. However, the vast majority of the time one if not both the blinds end up folding and I am left heads up (granted in position) with a hand that doesn't beat much. I'm only gonna hit a set about 1 in 7 times so is there enough value in playing these small pairs? I have been mixing it up sometimes playing them and sometimes folding but really not sure what I should be doing in this circumstance.
Chet Chetterson 0
I think it depends on the raiser's image to some degree. I can't blame you for folding in this position if you are not comfortable playing the small pairs heads up. Low pocket pairs are much better when you can set mine, as if you hit you will get paid off a large percentage of the time.
jmbreslin 0
In STTs I usually don't bother calling raises with small PP's to set mine because chip preservation is so important in the early stages. I might make the call if we're on level 1 or 2 and there are already a few callers, but otherwise I'll just throw them away. STT strategy is very different from MTT and cash strategy. Mongoose6 0
Is this for 6 max/Full ring? Turbo/Non TurboI only pay 6max Turbo and i often like to just flat call if the blinds are low. Say i have 33 and the flop comes 884, when/if he cbets, raise him. When the blinds are higher, just push. I dont know about other games, but i find agressiveness and position is the key.Dont be afraid to fold though, as you say 1 in 7 times youll hit your set, if your not somfortable playing those 884 flops, just fold your hand and move on.Dont play hands cause you feel you HAVE to "oh i have 66 in the SB, i call." play your game, nobody elses. And that the BB is still at a low level, usually from $20 to $50.The general idea is to hit your set and win a big hand or let the flop miss and see what the early position does. If they check you can choose to take a free card or make a bet to see what your opponent will do. But be careful not to overplay small pairs. As you say they cannot beat many hands.I will follow this same strategy for suited connectors in late position.IronDonk

Unless it's early, dirt cheap and there's some boneheads involved, I throw them in the muck. To an EP raise? Depends on the chip stacks involved, the blinds, my position, how I view the villain...Poker's a situational game. So, unless you post the particular hand, stacks, blind level, etc, you're not going to get the advice you need to make better decisions.
