Crushing Card Games (Any Limits) - How do you know?

Recommended Posts

Just a generally question. While reading about our poker heros, it is mentioned that they starting crushing the games at specfic limits and then moved up. My question is how do you know when you are crush the game at that limit? When you have X number of winning sessions (what percentage, times in a row)? - Who says you are not just getting lucky at the particular limit? Do you read everyone perfectly at the table for the limit? What other factors should be considered? Looking forward to comments and insight.

Crushing a game is when you sit down at a table with 50BB, play for 6 hours, and leave with 300BB. Frequently. Almost every day. When you play dominantly at a level for a sustained period of time, you are crushing the game.

that's a very very high return, which I don't think is possible. That's leaving with 5 times the money you bought in with, which is impossible on a reguar basis. If you bought in with with 50XBB at a 10-20 game, thatd mean you bought in with $1000, and your saying you expect to leave with $6000 on a regular basis? Anybody that expects this kind of return is kidding themselves. If you did this, I don't think you'd find anybody willing to play against you.I would say your crushing a game if you can win 2-3BB per hr and up on a consistent basis, which is not exactly easy to do.

Jay--I was being somewhat facetious. Yours is much more reasonable... :-)I was attempting to make the point that crushing a game is complete dominance. Whether it's a 5X return in sessions (don't we all wish) or consistently winning at a level over time, it's all crushing the game.

:D oh alright, hey some ppl think that way, so I can't just assume it was a joke :-) but yeah crushing games is just winning on a consistent basis whatever the amount, as long as your comfortable with your winnings, your crushing the game.

You're crushing a loose game if you're beating for 3BB/100 hands. You're crushing a tight game if you're beating it for 2BB/100 hands. You're crushing a tight agressive game if you're beating it for 1BB/100 hands. That's what crushing means.I crush .50/1 on Party for about 3.4 BB/100. (or did the last time I bothered to play it) If I was beating the 15/30 game for 1.5BB/100 I'd consider that crushing that game.No one's beating any game every session.

Basically what these guys are getting at, and I agree with all of them for the most part, is that a consistent level of play showing a profit after several thousand hands is a good way to determine if you are crushing a game. A couple hundred hands here and there is not a good way to make an accurate judgement of your abilities at that level. I usually don't even start considering how well I'm doing in comparison to other limits until I play over 1500 hands at that level. I generally wait until about 3-4000.Granted I'm a bit conservative when moving up the ranks because that works for me.But like I said, consistent play over a series of time.

1500 hands is still far too soon to make an estimation of your play vs. the game. I've just started keeping records including the number of hands played this past week or so, and with 800 hands played, and a single big win or loss can change my win rate by +/- 2 BB/100 hands. At 1500, the fluctuations will be around half as much. I'd think until you hit 10000 hands, you're not going to have a good idea of how well you're beating a game. (You might know that you're a winning player, but you won't necessarily know how much of a winning player you are). You can't draw any conclusions until your winning rate stabilizes. Coincidentally, I've read that 200 hours is the amount of time you'll need to spend playing at a given limit and location in a casino before you know your win rate. That's not too far off of the 10k figure, depending on the limit.
