I think it's better to make a move on the flop or turn. There are two things going for you there:

  1. You could still hit.
  2. Your bluff is scarier because you can still bet again on later streets.

As played, the villain has to make a tough call with ace-high (to your credit) but he's able to do so because your line looks like what it is: a bluff with a missed draw.
