New Online Strategy.. Please Comment

Recommended Posts

Would like you guys feedback on this...I am a successful cash game player in Los Angeles at the 5/10 NL games around town. Unfortunately my online game has been up and town, usually doing well in a MTT followed by getting the urge to play a 10/20 HU cash game... followed by desparately playing $50 SNGs to get even...As you can imagine, this strategy hasn't proven to be successful. Several months ago I hit a big enough score in a MTT to cash out of online a lifetime winner, and since have been just been playing live at the casinos here.I now have the urge to really work on my MTT game to prepare for some of the big events. I don't want to make a big $$ commitment to online poker but am thinking about putting $500 online under the following guidelines.-Play only 180man $26 SNGs-Track my play and analyze-No cash games at allI figure that with $500 I will have ~20 buy ins and should get a good feel for how these things play and how I'm doing. Do you all think that the 180 SNGs are a good place to polish my MTT game? Do you have any other suggestions. I realize that $500 may be a little light for $26 MTTs, but I don't really care about going broke, and have plenty of BR offline... I just want to learn, be disciplined to stick to a strategy.Any advice would be appreciated.

sounds good, though 1000 would be better. 20 buy ins for 180 man tourneys sounds small.
agreed, my point is just that I want to start to develop a feel for the tourny beast, put myself in positions to win both live and online. I'm always a little shocked by the play of the ipod, sunglasses, hoodie wearing tourny crowd. They very well could be playing it right... I just want to learn and get comfortable. At that point I'll see you on Sundays.

As far as using only %5 of your bankroll to play, that's a great idea. A little better stragtegy for you would be to work on all aspects of your game. Specifically, all stages and sizes of touraments. You might improve as a player a little more if you play 180 person, thousand-player fields, 18 player games, single-table tourneys and even heads-up matches. Although you won't have the possibility to win as much money in smaller games, you'll be able to hone your play in all fields.
