  1. sorry but 55 is not a big bet into a 120 dollar pot. sounds like he did want a call from the size of that bet. this situation is different than the top 2 pair ace king story on the other blog. in this spot, i would smooth call and hate it. i dont like the all in play here because all u have is qj. u dont have top 2 like the other story. but like i said, if u can read this guy for ace king, god bless u and more power to u. i might just even fold on this flop when he bets because u have 900 in front of u and its worth protecting. u go all in and he calls u with an over pair, yur dead. u smooth
  2. right, a place to learn from inexperienced people. u guys dont know what yur up against. i saw a blog earlier about a guy who claims to be runnin terrible. lol, he's been running bad for 2 weeks. i felt like telling him it can go much longer but i just kept my mouth shut. davin yur a small limit player which tells me yur not experienced. also u got a big check list of what possible holdings this guy has and percentage this and e.v. that. but let me tell u something, in a card room, u dont have all day to go through the check list in yur head. even the friggin dealers will rush u. davin, u stil
  3. well it looks like they got some player haters running this forum. i posted the question to daniel but it got deleted. this is not a place to learn but a place to argue. thats why i dont go to forums. too many inexperienced people throwing in theyre incorrect 2 cents. i got to hear it from 50 cent no limiters about how this game is played. i say to fold pocket qq when yur facing 3 bets cold and u been running bad and yur sure the guy who made it 3 bets has pocket aces, and yet i still hear thats a bad move. its actually a winning player move to muck those pocket whores but what do i know? i sa
  4. danny, can u please read a headline in the general poker forum titled, "question about a hand ". do u raise the flop or not? please tell me i'm wrong so i can quit poker, thanks. pmc
  5. davin, yur not even an experienced player and u refuse to listen to experience. if DN says raise the flop, then i guess you'll listen to him but not someone who has been playing off and on for 20 years and playin professionally for the past 4 years. u remind me of a group of guys who used to play the local tournaments here in the bay area. i called them the nerd patrol. they were the type that limped in with pocket aces and kings and though they were really smart when they trapped people including myself with theyre terrible play. long story short, not one of them play anymore and i knew they
  6. i said if i had an under pair, i would fold on the turn to another bet. i'm not a journalist and maybe i dont write so clear. look, if u guys want to smooth call in that spot, go ahead. i'll be hearing yur bad beat stories on the rail as i'm walking out of the card room after playin my usual tough session regardless if i win or lose. at least i go home not feeling sick for making the nerdy cute play. i'm a winning player and i gave u the right play. i only came to this site just to talk some poker because i took a day off from the card room. i dont think that real players go to chat rooms and
  7. well, the smooth call got him broke right? davin, i dont know who u r, i dont know what kind of player u r. yur from mit i notice and that gives me some indications. yur a smart guy, maybe too smart for poker. i played with u technical types for years. no doubt, yur absolutely right that when yur the favorite, u should invite action from a draw, BUT NOT WITH A SMOOTH CALL. raise just enough so that if he calls, he's getting the wrong odds to do so. so lets see, a pot size raise of 25 dollars should do the trick. but lets see, this is the kiddie small no limit game. the sucker says to himself,
  8. when he bet the flop, the first thing in my mind was a very big raise or all in. u only have a little over 100 bucks in front of u. i totally disagree with a smooth call. i been a winning player for quite some time so i feel i can talk boldly here. a smooth call is only good if u have a very strong hand. a hand that figures to still be good even if yur opponent improves on the river. top 2 pair ace king is a great flop but it can be beat. his bet on the flop was excellent but smallish to try and break u off a hand like pocket qq or jj. even if i had an underpair to the flop, i would have calle
  9. thanks, i'll take all the luck i can get. did u see the look on matasous face when he went all in with a gutshot against the guy with pocket tens at the world series? the pocket tens folded to the heat and matasou said it felt so good to pull that trigger and be right. the look on his face said it all. that boy is hungry. lederer might be able to look into yur soul but matasou "wants" yur soul. personally myself, i aint scared of nobody. i might fold a bit more than the big names do but i play the toughest games here in the bay area and i been winning for the last few years. cash games r about
  10. sucking out sure isnt against the law. i used to play so tight in tourneys until i realized that when u finally get the good hand but yur so short stacked and the big blind with a big stack calls yur piddly all in with a 10 6 suited and cracks yur pocket aces. then i started realizing that u cant rely on cards. there is too much luck in texas holdem. with that being said, make luck work for u. its definately a factor that needs to be exploited. so lets say the button raises u and u come over the top with j 10 off suit and he goes all in and now yur comitted and u call. who cares if he has ace
  11. well, i'm sure u know u dont mess with the other big stack because he can hurt u. not professional courtesy. right? yes, his call was terrible. if he reraised u with that hand, i would totally respect that. a move like that would be one of the highest forms of poker but its so difficult to pull that trigger. i never pull moves like that because i dont think its neccesary to win but it is something i'm contemplating. contemplating is the pre step to doing. a reraise with a j 10 in the small blind is what guys like juanda and matasou etc. do. i had a few of those kind of oppuritunities in my la

    bad play?

yeah, i cant blame anyone for saying its a bad move but the blinds were going up to 500/1000 with a 200 ante and i just dont like to fall being under ten times the big blind but thats just me. i like to stay ahead of the curve. also, the next hand was going to be the chip leaders big blind and i certainly wasnt going to try and make a move against him. with that said, i saw an oppuritunity to make a move. also, these guys know i'm a solid player who hadnt played a hand for the past 50 minutes. with all that in the equation, i was happy with the outcome even though i could have waited but like
  13. i think a good thing to do is throw the hand away pre flop. u had plenty of chips versus the size of the blinds. but thats one style. u played the aggressive style wich is good too. yur mistake was when he bet on the flop. THROW YUR HAND AWAY. who cares if he is possibly out playing u. u would have still had 19,000 in chips and find a better spot to utilize yur ammo. playing good poker is not about being a hero. its about control and management. always try to find the positives in bad situations. u made a big mistake but u were aggressive. thats a heck of a lot better than playin too tight and
  14. sorry, i thought this was a poker forum, not school. if everyone understands what i'm writing, thats good enough for me.

    bad play?

was in a live tourney yesterday. 550 buy in. 23,000 for first place. paid up to 18 spots. its the tenth level and blinds r 800/400 with 150 ante. i have about 11,000 and i'm in the cutoff and everyone folds to me. the big blind was the biggest stack to my left with what appeared to be about 7,000. i moved all in. the button and small blind folds and big blind calls all in for his tournament life with pocket 4's. i had 9 5 of spades. i lost the hand and instead of the big blind having 7,000, he had 9,200......ouch! i could have just raised to 3,000 and he probaly would have moved all in on me
  16. nachunja, let me give u some friendly advice. it sounds like yur running bad and then yur playing bad on top of it wich is the real problem. i have no idea if u know the formula on being a winning player in cash games. i dont know how long u been playing for or how much studying of the game u been doing. i can tell u this. to make money in cash games, u dont have to be the hero and call a guy down with pocket 4's against a high scary board. getting out played sometimes and laying down the winning hand is what winning players do. if a guy is rammin and jammin u, let him. you'll catch him eventu
  17. making money in the long run at poker is not easy. its easy but not easy. its kind of like driving across america between 50 and 60 miles an hour. it sounds easy but somewhere along the line, yur going to want to go faster than 60 miles an hour and when u speed, u get nailed, just like in poker. the game goes through periods where u get tested big time. for example, yur running cold, yur looking at rags for hours and then when u get a decent hand to play, its not even close on the flop and u got to muck. now, all of a sudden, the suckker in early position raises, fold, fold, then solid player
