No Limit Negreanu

CroppedImage180320-Daniel-Negreanu5.JPG

Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu got some chips in no-limit hold'em.

The flop had most of the aces in the deck, A♦ A♥ A♠, it was a beautiful sight. It was a raised pot and the UTG player had bet 125. Another player folded and Negreanu raised to 325 from the big blind.

The UTG player called and a 2♣ came on the turn. Negreanu bet 425 and was faced with a raise to 1,025.

Negreanu took some time but eventually called.

A 3♠ came on the river and both players checked. Negreanu showed 7♣ 7♥, enough to beat his opponent's K♦ Q♣.

Negreanu is now up to about 7,500.

Portaro Straightened Out by Negreanu

CroppedImage320180-Daniel-Negreanu-3.JPG

Daniel Negreanu takes an early lead

Pot Limit Omaha

The first player has been eliminated here in Event 3, and it is none other then local Bruno Portaro.

Noticing that his seat was empty and that Daniel Negreanu had 14,200 in chips, we asked him for the details of the Portaro elimination.

Negreanu bet out on a Jx-8x-4x flop and Portaro raised. Negreanu made the call before checking the Qx on the turn as Portaro fired out again. Negreanu check-raised pot and Portaro went all in with Negreanu quickly calling.

Negreanu: Qx-Tx-Tx-9x

Portaro: Ax-Kx-8x-4x

With Negreanu holding the nut straight, Portaro would need to spike an eight or a four to improve to a full house or a ten to make a bigger straight, but unfortunately none would hit the river as he was bundled to the rail as the first elimination of the tournament.

Flush for Negreanu

Pot Limit Omaha

Facing a raise to 150, Daniel Negreanu made the call next to act along with a third player to see the dealer drop a 5♣ 9♣ 2♣ flop.

The action was checked round to the third player who bet out 300 which was called just by Negreanu. The T♣ on the turn, and the 4♦ on the river, went check check to see Negreanu table his Q♣ 8♣ T♥ 5♥ for a flush.

As Negreanu moved to 14,000 his opponent said, “I didn’t have enough chips to push you off!”

Hellmuth Betters Negreanu

Omaha 8-or-Better

From the button Daniel Negreanu opened to 300 only to have Phil Hellmuth three-bet to 450. Negreanu called and the flop fell A♥ Q♥ 4♠ and Hellmuth fired out 150 only to have Negreanu make it 300.

Hellmuth tossed in 450 and Negreanu made the call to see the 2♥ land on the turn. Hellmuth check-called 300 before the river landed the 2♠ and Hellmuth led for 300 with Negreanu quickly calling.

Hellmuth tabled his A♠ A♣ T♠ 9♠ for top full house, and Negreanu tabled his A♦ 4♣ 4♥ K♦ for a smaller full house to slip to 13,500 as Hellmuth moved to 8,500 in chips.

Francis Falls to Negreanu

Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo

Catching the action fifth street we found Dean Francis all in against Daniel Negreanu.

Francis: (7♦ 6♣) / A♥ T♥ K♠

Negreanu (6♦ 5♦) / 6♠ Q♠ J♥

Francis caught a K♣ on sixth, but when Negreanu caught the Q♦ it still left the local player drawing.

“I’ll let you know if I fill up!” announced Negreanu as he squeezed his seventh card … the Q♣.

Drawing dead, Francis stood up and left as the dealer revealed his final card to be a meaningless 5♥. Negreanu now has just on 16,000 in chips.

Unless Portaro was committed...what in the world is going on with that turn action? Bottom 2 and gutter jamming over a check-pot...yeesh.

I guess not shocking that it was a local player and he was the first player knocked out.

Negreanu Scooped by Aristidou and Hellmuth

CroppedImage320180-IMG5459.JPG

Daniel Negreanu gets scooped

Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo

Daniel Negreanu had the bring in and Phil Hellmuth completed to 400. Peter Aristidou made the call next to act, as did Negreanu before all three players checked through to sixth street.

Aristidou bet out 800 and Negreanu and Hellmuth called before seventh street was checked down.

Negreanu: (X-X) / 6♣ 2♣ 2♦ Q♠ / (X)

Hellmuth: (X-X) /A♦ 6♠ J♦ 2♥ / (X)

Aristidou: (X-X) / 7♠ 4♣ A♠ 8♣ / (X)

Aristidou tabled his 7♣ 6♦ / Q♥ for a pair of sevens and Hellmuth tabled his 7♦ 4♥ / K♥ for a seven-low. Negreanu mucked and was scooped by both players to move to 21,500 while Aristidou climbed to 6,500 and Hellmuth moved to 10,000.

Star-studded field makes it to Day 2

CroppedImage180320-Bertrand-Grospellier.JPG

Blue-haired ElkY

The first day of Event #3 has come to an end.

Players started coming in at 4pm today and kept trickling in for the first six levels. By the time late registration had closed, we had a total of 81 entrants.

While the prize pool was relatively small, the talent in the field was enormous. With the amount of big names present, the tournament area resembled more of a Super-High Roller Championship Ultimate World Cup tournament. One starting table had Phil Ivey, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Dan Kelly. Not surprisingly, there were several eliminations at the table. Then Jonathan Duhamel came in and didn't leave until the table broke.

Fans were also going crazy near one table where Mel Judah, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth were seated. Unlike the previous table, this one was right on the rail. Then, to make things better for the fans, Phil Ivey moved to the table.

There were several other pros present today including JC Tran, Jose Cheong, Joe Hachem and Brandon Cantu, but none of them would survive.

But all the other prominent names we mentioned will be making it to Day 2.

Brandon Wong will lead the field with 42,925 and Rob Campbell will come in 2nd with 33,350. Coming in 3rd is a very nonchalant ElkY with 31,500.

The other pros coming back tomorrow will be Phil Ivey (21,425), Barry Greenstein (18,325), Daniel Negreanu (16,700), Dan Kelly (16,050), Jonathan Duhamel (14,650), Phil Hellmuth (5,625).

8-game is a favorite among pros as it provides very good bragging rights. Many of them have made it through this first stage, but only one can win the bracelet.

Play resumes tomorrow at noon local time. Check our coverage as we play down to what's sure to be an exciting final table.

Stay tuned as we watch these poker stars fight down to third final table of the inaugural WSOP APAC.

Perfect start for Negreanu

CroppedImage180320-Daniel-Negreanu5.JPG

Great start to the day for Daniel

Pot Limit Omaha

Dan Kelly and Daniel Negreanu started today next to each other on the chip count leaderboard with roughly 16,000 chips apiece. Just minutes into the day and one of them has 32,000 and the other has nothing.

It was a flop of 2♣ Q♦ 3♦ that did the damage. Kelly led out with a bet, Negreanu raised and Kelly moved all in. Negreanu almost beat him into the pot saying, “Have you got a draw?”.

The answer was no, as Kelly showed Q♣ 3♥ A♣ 5♣ for two pair with a wheel draw as Negreanu tabled Q♥ Q♠ K♠ 9♥ for top set of queens. The A♦ turn and J♦ river didn’t change anything to see Kelly an early Day 2 elimination as Negreanu virtually doubled his stack.

Ivey Stares Down the Kid

CroppedImage320180-IMG2169.JPG

The Ivey Death Stare

Pot-Limit Omaha

Probably the two biggest names in poker, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey just faced off in Pot-Limit Omaha

Negreanu bet out on a board reading:

2♥ 3♦ 9♠ J♦ 4♦

Phil Ivey responded with a pot sized raise to about 4,000 and a patented Ivey death stare.

Daniel though for a few moments, holding his cards up in front of him. He bunched them back together, then fanned them out in his hand again, looking at the pot.

Eventually Negreanu mucked, saying he had Kings.

A couple of hands later, the other biggest name in poker Phil Hellmuth – seated between Phil and Daniel – piped up with “is there a sheriff in town, Ivey’s just won 12 pots in a row. We need to write this guy a speeding ticket.”

Negreanu is still sitting behind a healthy stack of 31,000.

Negreanu knocks out Hellmuth

CroppedImage320180-IMG2052.JPG

Phil Hellmuth is out of Event #3

Limit Hold'em

Phil Hellmuth won't be getting bracelet 14 in Event #3.

The United Chips of Phil Table broke up and its citizens dissipated into the crowd. Phil Hellmuth -- who had been short stacked for some time -- and Daniel Negreanu moved to the same table though, and Negreanu ended Hellmuth's run.

Blinds were 300/600 and Hellmuth raised from the button. Negreanu called from the big blind and we had a 3♣ J♠ 3♥ flop.

Negreanu bet, Hellmuth raised, Negreanu three-bet and Hellmuth moved all-in. Negreanu called and players turned over their hands.

Hellmuth: 6♦ 6♥

Negreanu: Q♥ Q♣

"Cooler," said Negreanu.

"That's why," said Hellmuth. "Especially against you."

The turn brought a J♣ and a 3♦ fell on the river.

Hellmuth was out and Negreanu went up to about 27,000.

Big Names, Big Hands

CroppedImage180320-Daniel-Negreanu6.JPG

On a four-handed table that also includes Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu just played a big Razz hand with former World Champ Jonathan Duhamal.

After two bets on the first two streets and a bet by Negreanu and call from Duhamel for the remaining streets, the boards read as follows:

Duhamel: (X-X) 2 3 J 8 (X)

Negreanu: (X-X) 4 5 6 K (X)

Daniel turned over 3 7 7 for a 7-low and took down the pot. He’s sitting on a healthy stack of 56,000.

Tensions Building

Razz

Tensions are rising as play goes hand for hand on the bubble. This was being exacerbated on Table 32, where the dealer was trying to deal Razz – a game she had never dealt before. The dealer was clearly getting stressed as mistakes were made, and Daniel Negreanu had to explain the rules to her. Negreanu gave her a pat on the back at one point and told her not to stress, and Phil Ivey told her not to worry as play was always slow on the bubble.

Crown soon swapped her out for a dealer with more Razz experience.

Meanwhile, the pots on that table have been relatively small as the short stacks play it safe.

Ivey and Negreanu lead final table

CroppedImage180320-Phil-Ivey-4.JPG

Ivey leads with 144,300

Day 2 of Event #3 has come to a close.

We have our final six players and are in for quite a final table with Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu leading the field.

Negreanu started chipping up early in Day 1 and hasn't stopped since. The four-time bracelet winner even spent most of the two days seating next to Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth.

The latter Phil even told Negreanu that he had a dream with Negreanu, and in it Kid Poker ran really well.

Seems like Hellmuth's dream is coming true.

Hellmuth was also in the field today but didn't manage to make it to the money. A few other pros, including Jonathan Duhamel, Eugene Katchalov, Chad Brown and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier took a seat today but fell short of the money.

There's another pro who managed to cash though, he also made the final table.

Phil Ivey will start the final table with the chip lead, 144,300. He's followed by Daniel Negreanu with 129,000.

Ivey finished Day 1 above average and was steadily gaining all day.

Ivey started the day seated next to Negreanu, Hellmuth and Katchalov but then got moved to a table devoid of any bracelet winners. There, Ivey dominated and became the first player to break the 100,000 chip mark.

CroppedImage180320-Daniel-Negreanu6.JPG

Negreanu will start 2nd with 129,000

Play was rather quick all day but slowed down a bit during the money bubble.

After a few double-ups, Joe Cabret busted and we were in the money. After that, we quickly lost a few players and got to the third final table of the inaugural WSOP APAC.

Play will resume at 12:30pm tomorrow and the final table will look like:

Seat 1: Graeme Putt -- 36,400

Seat 2: Daniel Negreanu -- 129,000

Seat 3: Phil Ivey -- 144,300

Seat 4: Rob Campbell -- 42,600

Seat 5: Brandon Wong -- 86,100

Seat 6: Kevin Song -- 49,600

Join us tomorrow as we play down to our third WSOP APAC bracelet winner.
