plo/8. lost a bundle, did i err?

Recommended Posts

Playing PLO/8, everyone folds around to me in the SBI look down at A34Jss, and I complete. The BB checks. The flop comes down:2 2 3, with 2 of my suits. With two pair (ace kicker), nut flush draw, nut low draw, I bet the pot.The SB calls. The turn: J of my suit.Having completed the nut flush, still on the nut low draw, and not having heard anything from the SB, I again bet the pot and am called. The river is a 3, giving me threes full of jacks, with no qualifying low. The third nut. I move all-in, which is for about 2/3 of the pot.He calls and flips over 2-2 for flopped quads. He did everything fine, but did I err? Should I have been less aggressive?Opinions would be great.

Your statement that he did everything fine is subjective, as he allowed the pot to possibly be split (due to a low) (unless he had a good low draw also (we didn't learn his other two cards). He did a great job of having you put all your money in for him, but feel he should have re-raised after the turn...As for your play, I've never been heads-up before (usually at least 3 or 4 limpers), so I am undecided on a pre-flop raise. May have won the blinds (and saved you a ton of other money), but I don't raise pre-flop myself very often...After the flop, you bet the pot, and got called. To me, that tells me to slow down unless I get one of my nut outs. The turn, while mildly improving your hand, gives you far from the nuts. I think you should have checked there, or bet about half the pot and see what happens. If he bets/raises you, you then have a decision to make.River, based on how you played it, even if you didn't bet out, he would have bet and you more than likely would have called, so you were hooped by that point.

What's BB's other two cards? Did he have good low draws?IMO, BB didn't play that well. Depending on his other two cards, he should've at least raised you on the turn to prevent any low draws there. After all, he didn't want the pot splitted. That's his mistake, and his mistake is your gain. What's his mistake you can pound on him? He's giving you a chance to split the pot when he's only ahead in one direction. So next time when your hands are good at both directions, keep pounding him to make him pay!Now on your part. Remember one thing, when the board is paired, play it less aggressively, especially all you have is draws.

Good analysis.

With two pair (ace kicker), nut flush draw, nut low draw, I bet the pot. This is a terrible bet.You have no nut high draw, you're out of position and the pot is miniscule. Why are you chasing the low heads up to try and win back HALF A BLIND?
