shawnwoods 0
I was playing in the Candian Poker tour.I was sitting in the big blind position. The blinds were $500/$1500.There was a guy the champ from the last tournament to my right 1st to act.I got pocket J's/ He was the 1st to act he made it $5000 to go . everyone on the table folded including the small blind.I had about 20k in chips in frnt of me but I made the big mistake. Instead of just calling to see the flop I called all in. The champ called with his ace k and I lost toa ace on the flop.To me this was a mistake does anyone see this situation diffeent and my all in was the call?
Tyler Parrent 0
In my mind your play wasn't a huge mistake but was an error in judgement. The problem with moving in in this situation is that Pocket Jacks is not enough hand to push that hard. You gotta look at it this way, any hand that he's gonna call you with is gonna either have you crushed or be a coin flip. He's not gonna call you all with with 10's or worse or an Ace with a jack or worse. He's gonna be calling you with ace queen, ace king, queens, kings, or aces. Also keep in mind that he is getting the pot odds to call with a hand like ace king, as he's putting in 15,000 to win 25,000 giving him about 1.7 to 1 to call with a 50-50 proposition. If you read his bet as weak and were doing a semi-bluff steal by moving in, realize your risking your whole stack, 20,000 and your tournament life on your read of his weakness... to win a total of 5,000. To risk 20,000 in chips and your tournament to pick up 5,000 isn't worth it to me at least.
shawnwoods 0
true good points.Thats what I hate is when it comes down to a coin flip.I don't like when the skill is taken out of it.
Polakplayer16 0
Look at the blind structure, 500/1500. how crazy is that. that structer changes the math of a good opening bet. I dont like that at-all. Did you make a mistake in writing this? About the play that you made. from the info that you gave me about everything. it was so-so.
