my wife won $70,000 at the seminole casino in tampa

So things are going well for us. She is trying to start a business right now, and the money will really help. I am currently finishing up a contract in Qatar (Middle East), and will be transitioning to a year long contract in Baghdad, Iraq after a short vacation home with the kids. All this to say I think poker has really, really warped my sense of perspective when it comes to money. I say this because the 70K doesn't seem like that big a deal. I ran up my bankroll to 14K last month, then lost a sizeable portion of it back in heads up play (having AA versus opponent's AKs all in preflop 2nd hand into a 5K heads up, and losing... will do that to you), and it just didn't seem like a big deal. Granted, the bankroll is totally separate from household money, but I feel I should have been affected more by the loss. I consider myself a good player, and I feel very confident about building my bankroll back up with what I have left. That brings to mind my next point; I've heard a lot of big stakes players have the same attitude towards money. Would most of you consider it an asset, or a liability? I definitely have goals for the money. I plan to buy a McDonald's franchise when I get together enough money. So it's not that I do not see money as valuable, I just don't feel much when I lose now. Perhaps this means I've progressed as a player? Any comments are welcome.Pogue

I was up there (Seminole Hard Rock - Tampa) last night and saw someone take a $15,000 jackpot at a slot machine. The guy next to me at the poker table said he had jackpots of $20,000 and $15,000 next to him on the floor. Definitely a payout night for the Hard Rock. Not so much for me. 6½ hours at table 24 and I dropped $20. Couldn't catch a card if my life depended on it.Oh well...had a great time. Congrats to your wife.

yeah pi.s.sing money away, supposedly it's the stuff of champions.  do u find that you randomly post things with little or no context often?
Hmmmm.. Thanks for the erudite post.First of all, I am playing at the limits I feel comfortable with, 5/10 NL ring games. I decided to take a shot at the heads up tables. When you start feeling that putting it all in heads up with AA preflop is, as you so eloquently put it, p.is.sing away one's money, please feel free to kill yourself.Just because I was playing a 5K heads up with only 14K bankroll does not mean I was underfunded. I have plenty in reserves in case I lost. Furthermore, losing the money was not what I was referring to. The little to no effect winning or losing was having on my mental state was what I was referring to.Well, I guess I can sum it up this way.. I might have lost one big pot. I might have decimated a good portion of my playing bankroll in one session. But I still have plenty of money in reserve to build back up, just not much free time. In other words, I have plenty of opportunity to get rich off my poker skills. But you, sir, have almost no opportunity of being anything other than an a.s.shole.Have a nice day, Pogue

Yeah smitty, slots is what she won on. I haven't gotten the details on what slots, or how much she was putting in on each spin.I hate that she plays slots, but what am I going to do? Yell at her for winning 70K?Actually, I did, but that's another story.Pogue
