DanielNegreanu 141
Another big game against a division rival as the Thieves look to win their fifth straight and close the gap for the division lead to just one point. There are several interesting stories surrounding this contest tonight with Joe Sakic playing his first game against his former team, the Cheap Thieves. Sakic was traded in a move that saw Roberto Luongo and the Panther goalies come to Las Vegas with New Jersey and Sakic going the other way. Also of note, Alexei Zhamnov is finally healthy and ready to contribute but there are two familiar faces that won't be in the Saturday night lineup. Injuries to Alexei Kovalev and Alexander Mogilny make this Saturday night a little weaker than normal. Zhamnov, who is yet to register a point will be expected to carry much of the load. Also, another big free agent acquistion, Keith Tkachuk, is expected back relatively soon and it couldn't come at a better time with two key forwards already hurting. Mogilny is day-to-day with concussion issues and skating with the club yesterday. He isn't expected to play this weekend, but could be back as early as next week. The news on Kovalev isn't quite as good. He is undergoing a similar surgery to the one he had years ago and likely won't be available until about Christmas. Both Mogilny and Kovalev are crucial to the team's long term success. If Tkachuk and Zhamnov starts coming around, the name Joe Sakic will soon be forgotten:FORWARDS:Simon Gagne, PHI. Belanger25 3
Ah no Eric Belanger. Boo. Oh well probably the best choice though. Better hope LA comes to play and takes apart Colorado's D.Although Blake always gets a couple points against LA.
