  1. Gus Hansen Eliminated In This MannerYes indeed, the Gus-ted is busted. With three hearts on the flop, he got it in with :club::ts only to find that Negreanu the Golden was holding :D:D . No further hearts on the board, and Hansen was off to share his woe with fellow Dane Peter Eastgate.Negreanu now flying very, very high on over 60,000. :4h

  2. I ended up watching most of it.Palin didn't do anything outrageous ... but she obviously could not answer a question. She had a script and stuck to it regardless of what the question was. But by not doing anything outrageously stupid, she performed better than most people thought she might. Expectations were so low that by simply surviving, she can be said to have "done well."However, I want more from my leaders.Biden had his weak moments, too ... but he also had some very positive ones. However, because people had higher expectations of him, that doesn't seem as impressive. This one could be spun in a lot of different directions and will be by people with different perspectives and agendas.I hope the Republicans let Palin get out in public more so that we can see her in truly unscripted moments. That's the only way people will get a good look at her.

  3. If family matters are the best you can find to question their judgement then they are one helluva ticket.<sniff sniff> Yup, desperation has its own unique smell.
I never said it was the "best" example of their questionable judgment. I just said it was an example of bad judgment.Couldn't you find a suitable response to what I actually said? Having to resort to putting words in my mouth to make a response -- now that's desparation.
  4. If her family is so off-limits and irrelevant, why is this the first thing she tells us about herself?? You can't have it both ways. She clearly thinks her family reflects on her, which is why she brought it up. Now when it doesn't make her look so good, it's none of our business.
QFTAlso, anyone with half a brain KNEW that the pregnancy was not going to go unnoticed forever. And anyone with half a brain KNOWS that any sort of delay, denial, or cover-up always makes a story more extreme. The Palins and the Republican Campaign did Bristol and her Fiance a disservice by not handling this better. THAT poor handling of the story reflects badly on them and their judgment.
  5. While your experience makes you aware of potential problems you have nowhere near enough specific information to make such a melodramatic statement. If someone with your background but a more public profile made such an overreaching statement it would be used for propoganda, and that would appear to be its only purpose here.
None of us much specific information here. The Palins (and the campaign) did not volunteer any information and it will take a while for the candidate to be fully vetted by the scrutiny of public investigation. All any of us can do is talk in terms of generalities and probabilities.... and I am concerned about any teenager whose parent (mom or dad) puts such a delicate private matter into the middle of such a harsh public relations battle.I'm a regular member here and my posts are no more "propaganda" than anyone else's. They represent my private opinion. I only stated my credentials after another poster suggested that I was biased against Sarah Palin because I didn't approve of women having careers. I didn't state my credentials in the beginning.
  6. Sure you would. So, you probably had a lot to say about having the Obama kids appear during the DNC on stage in front of thousands of people and broadcast to dozens of people watching on TV?...or Chelsea Clinton being used for the past 15 years as a prop during countless appearances and growing up in the public eye in the Whitehouse......or any number of other times Children of the Famous are forced into being public personalities.
I don't really approve of the kids being used period. That's wrong. But you're missing the point. The kids can never be "totally out of range" of the public eye when their parents are such public figures. However, some of the details of how and when they are brought in front of the camera can sometimes be controlled. Sarah Palin knew that her daughter could not be shielded completely and she should have handled the communication/disclosure better. She did a very poor job of controlling how and when the nation learned about her daughter's pregnancy -- which could have been included in the biographical information presented about her family when her nomination was announced. By not disclosing it in the beginning, it makes for a bigger issue later when it finally is forced out of the shadows. I feel sorry for the kid and her fiance and I'm not apologizing for that. I know a lot of people who feel at least a little concern for them. Maybe you don't have any compassion for them and can't understand how anyone else could. That's your right.
  7. So I guess a Woman can't be a good mother and have High Aspirations. Long Live Feminism. If their roles were reversed and the Male parent was running for office would you question his parenting?Bristol is 17 and will marry the father of her child. Perhaps Sarah and the family know that Todd Palin can be expected to support his wife and Family? Nah, you're clearly better positioned to judge her worth as a Mother.
I am a woman. I am also a nurse who works alongside fellow nurses who are working mothers every day. I specialize in Maternal-Child nursing and have a PhD (with my Master's Degree focused on my maternal-child specialty). I have spent 30 years working as a colleague and a care-giver to families having difficult pregnancies and children with special needs. My opinions are not those of some knuckle-walking male who thinks "women should be kept at home" and not aspire to successful, powerful, and high-profile careers. But my many years of experience has taught me that there is an appropriate time and place for everything.I feel sorry for these children -- and am concerned for their well-being.Bristol's pregnancy is not the big deal for me. Teenagers have sex and get pregnant every day. Her mother's putting it into the spotlight and making it a topic of national interest is. The fact that her mother didn't "control the story" by explaining it first, but rather waited until the story broke in a messy sort of way indicates poor judgement. etc.I would say the same thing if the parent voluntarily putting them under such stress were a man. A man should not do that to his children, either.
  8. I feel really sorry for the poor girl. Her mother's political ambitions have now put her unwed, teenage pregnancy into the international news. Just when she will probably need her mother the most, her mother will be moving out of state -- first to hit the campaign trail, and then to Washington. The Palins have 2 special needs children -- 1 a newborn with a serious chromosomal abnormality that will need lots of special attention and the other a 17 year old with a life-altering crisis. It's hard to believe this Vice Presidential bid is in the best interest of this family.

  9. Some lives will be lost in this storm, no doubt. I'm sure no one actually wished this on anyone, but still...some pretty bad jokes/comments flying around.Moore is the Global warming crowds worst enemy, imo.I hope and pray everyone gets the hell out of the way of this thing.
I just saw a news story that included empty streets in New Orleans and people getting on busses out of town. It looks like they are taking it seriously -- and that those who WANT to leave have the opportunity to do so with public transportation. We just need to hope that people are smart enough to take advantage of the opportunities available to them -- not only in New Orleans, but in the entire region.
  10. I wasn't caught up in Olympic Fever at all this summer. It was barely on my radar and I had no intention of watching more than a few particular events. But then those 2008 drummers came on the screen and I became hooked again. I guess it's like a lot of addictions. If you completely abstain, you do OK. But if you have "just a little," you can't stop yourself from wanting more and more.I fell for that little boy who was buried in the earthquake who went back to rescue 2 of his classmates after freeing himself. When asked why he did that, he said that he was hall monitor and that was his job. Ahhhhhhh .... So cute. When they interviewer was done interviewing Yao Ming (who was carrying the little boy), the little boy spoke right up and said in English "Thank you very much." Ahhhhhh... So cut.I want a body like that 41 year old swimmer, Dara Torres. I am 53. Do you think I have a chance?

  11. Happy birthday, Daniel! :club: When I was young, I used to think that 35 was the official start of "middle age." That gives you one more year to be "Kidpoker." How about "Manpoker," "In-my-prime-poker" or simply "Geezerpoker?"Anybody else have any suggestions for Daniel? We have a whole year to pick a new name for him.

  12. They eat the crap out of tofu in China and they have like a zillion people.
Maybe they just have a lot more sex than most people -- to deliver a higher percentage of what little sperm they produce.Or ...They don't waste what little they have jerking off like North American men do.
  13. Knowing of a relationship between soy and estrogen, I've always wondered about the effects of soy on male hormones, etc. While more research is needed, it seems that soy may indeed interfere with the male reproduction system. Here is a link to an article that I saw today that suggests that soy is linked to lower sperm counts. Anybody have anything solid on this? It would be ironic if all the "healthy vegetarians" were actually lowering their chances to pass on their genes.http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25833435/
