  1. I might actually check the river and call any bet instead. He's definitely not folding a hand that beats you when you shove, but he will fold a lot of hands that you have beat. If you check, you give him the opportunity to take a stab at a lot of missed draws, pairs, etc. Maybe you miss a bit of value here from a hand like AA, KK, QQ, etc., but I think you'll pick up more value from weaker hands if you check the river.

  2. Me neither, I don't like having weak paint in early position, it seems like there's no right way to play it, I've posted hands where I min raised, limped, and raised, and taken heat from all of them. Of course they were at different blind levels so that affects how you play it. To me this is just a raise to see where I'm at, and also to make the pot worth winning if I happen to hit comfortably with KJ, but how would you play it in this position?
Fold. I don't think I even touch KJo unless im in the CO or Button

  4. I don't really mind just calling pf. I really think you need to lead out on the flop though, because its fairly draw heavy and you can't afford to give up a turn card. As played, check behind the river. I don't want to be raised and forced to make a decision for a lot of chips here with only top pair. Give him the opportunity to maybe bluff with a weaker hand and call any reasonable sized bets (imo, anything under pot size).

  5. I'd throw in a pot-sized bet on the turn, or possibly just shovel if you're sure you are ahead. It's more of a value vs. risk. As played, I fold the river. Trust your reads. When you bet 2/3 of the pot and he calls, he's actually calling with bad odds to complete the flush. By calling the river, you actually make that call a much less bad one because you gave him implied odds. If you get unlucky, minimize your losses and get out.

  6. Here's why I'm against minraising: with a big hand, you are trying to win a big pot. If you allow a weaker hand into a pot by minraising, you're either going to win a slightly bigger pot, or lose a huge pot.The advantage of minraising is that you allow many hands that you beat into the pot. If they flop TP or 2nd pair with Jacks or lower, you will win considerably more then you would have otherwise. The disadvantage of minraising is that you allow many hands that you beat into the pot. A king or ace will hit the flop approx 42% of the time here [ (42/50)*(41/49)*(40/48) ]. In addition, he may have called with a very wide range here, so its hard to know if you're beat on a low flop. It won't happen a lot, but when it does, you won't be able to get away from this hand. Sometimes I call a minraise from EP, specifically knowing that he probably has me dominated PF (AA, KK, etc.) just so that when I hit a perfect flop, I can break him. The implied odds are huge against you. Its better to raise 3x and take the pot now or DEFINE his hand to a much narrower range so that when certain flops hit, you'll know somewhat where you stand. QQ is a strong hand, but its also fairly vulnerable.Edit: I realize this is a 1.20 STT, but still lol.

  7. On the topic of minraises: I usually play small-stake SNG's, tourneys (3.25 /45s, 4.40s, $5 STT, etc.). Whenever someone minraises from EP, I automatically slow down because 90% of the time (I don't think im exaggerating here) its AA, KK, QQ, sometimes even JJ, or AK. If you're minraising consistently with marginal hands as well as monsters, itll throw people like me off, but majority of people it just gives them incentive to call. That being said, I don't MIND the minraise from the button/CO, but please don't ever do this from EP. I'd prefer a 2.5/3x raise here instead. As played, shovel.

  8. I autocall. If you are actually going to fold here in fear of bubbling, you shouldn't have raised PF in the first place. This is almost a perfect flop for you. Secondly, if you fold here, you are only left with ~ 1.7k. I'd easily put you at a 65/35 favourite (probably even higher) against his range here. Having the chance to move up to 4k and secure yourself a good shot at winning this thing is more than worth the risk of bubbling here, especially since you're fairly short here as well, and will be in bad shape if the shorty doubles up.

  9. -I oppened for 3 and he called out of the blind, so the pot was about 7k. So I guess more than just under the pot, even more equity in raising right?-He didn't felt me but seriously cripppled me, and I was soon done.
you opened for 3k with blinds at 1-2k?I'm not really nitpicking.. just yeah... i guess i am nitpicking lol. I still stand on calling the push regardless.
  10. Three tables left in a short handed event and I had about 66k with the average around over 50k and 1-2k blinds with a 100 ante. On the button I oppened with 10-9 clubs and the big blind calls. Flop came down Jc 2c 8h. The blind bet 3k , just under the pot, and I raised to 10k. He took time and eventually called. Turn was the 9d giving me a pair and a flush draw and was also open ended. He led out all in for a little over 30k more. So I had 9 clubs, 3 tens, 2 nines, and 3 queens and 3 sevens. I had no idea what he had, figured my clubs were alive since an open push with A-xclubs didn't make sense. Maybe a flopped set, or a straight would hurt me. I decided to call since shorthanded getting down I wanted to play a big stack. My opponent had 9s-9h for a turned set. My clubs, queens, and sevens were alive. 15 outs, so only like 35%. I missed on the river and was soon sent packing. What could I have done different, call the flop? Fold on the turn?
Did you raise the button PF or just limp? If you opened, the pot should be more like 10 -14k right? Anyways, I like the raise on the flop, and I don't see how I get away from this. You have the odds to call on the turn against most of what he could be holding, and 99 was definitely on the high end of his holdings. I'm calling here everytime though
  11. I would repop a bit higher on the river.. maybe to 250/300 (I personally always try to raise at least 3x the previous bet when the blinds are relatively small).Turn I'd probably go for 2/3 pot, since I think A-x will call anyways.River I don't mind as a value bet, but personally I'd bet a bit stronger to get more value, since I put him on either 1st or 2nd pair (which means he'll likely call anyways), a busted draw (meaning he'll fold or bluff regardless), or a made hand (you'll get pushed into anyways). As played, I probably call unless you figure him for a complete nit. And even then, hard to get away from trips HU.

  12. I think that if you had even one more chip than SB, this is an easy call (guaranteeing yourself 2nd if either you or the big stack wins). I agree with everyone else though: if you don't win this hand, you're out in 3rd and as a result his is probably a close fold. IF the big stack had been raising with ATC a lot of hands, I might be tempted to put it in all there because I have to figure we're ahead of the short stack's range.

  14. All I have to say is that was a very intelligent and well thought out post Obey. Thanks for the read.I guess this is sort of vague and general, but I feel like I tend to go against my better judgment at times in favour of "what I should be doing" in certain situations. How much does instinct or gut influence a decision that is completely swayed towards fold or call "mathematically". Are you completely dependent on your gut as to say that if you logically went through the process, and figured you would win a hand 40 - 45% of the time given 3:1 odds to call on the river putting the villain on a range, yet your gut was telling you he had you beat, would you fold? I feel like its those decisions that separate the good players from the great ones.

  15. Was 5 a standard raise? This looks or feels like an overpair with one spade or something. His range is fairly large here though and could easily include something like AsKs, AsQs, higher set etc.If you were planning on folding to a push though, I probably would have checked behind on the turn and called any non-spade river (within reason) and value bet if checked to me. That might not be the best way to extract value from your set though in most cases, so bleh lol.

  16. I love 6-handed SNG's just because I feel the biggest advantage I have over typical donks who play these things are post flop play. 6-handed gives me many more opportunities to exploit this. I also tend to notice that people tighten up a lot 3 or 4 handed and my aggressiveness tends to allow me to build a stack fairly quickly. Just perseonal preference though. Playing 9-handed is much more straight forward though in terms of decision-making, etc.

  17. I dont mind checking behind actually and trapping him on the turn. I guess it depends on how likely he would call a push with something like AT or AJ, and whether or not you think hes likely to bet out if you check the turn.Without any real reads, I probably lean towards just pushing the flop here.

  18. Cappy (FcP)Ship it... I'm already in 2 tourneys.. I'll jump in one once I'm out of a tourney and PM you the #.. And thank you, kind sir.
