MOT = member of the tribe, yes, it means jewish.
if MOT=jewish, there are a ton. I think it is a natural extension of the characteristics of jews. we are generally very money-oriented, shrewd calculators, and very crafty.lol, it surprises me how many MOTs there are in poker. -
Yup, I need it to be at least 100k to cut down on the riffraff and hometown heroes.
I sincerely apologize. I guess you had the same problem I did with the buy in being way too small.
Not true, I did not participate in the tournament 8)Anyone who is anyone in poker was in that tournament, so to win it you have to be a great player. Even Moneymaker made some great plays at the WSOP that were never aired. -
You're right, Stuey rivered a gutshot to win the last one, but he made a few amazing bluffs prior to that, and the guy that he beat (whose name escapes me) hit a one outer to stay alive earlier at the final table.i believe stu ungar hit a gutshot to win one of his wsop's, and everyone knows that brunson came from behind twice with his beloved 10=2, you have to get a little lucky. -
I had a bad run of cards in that game, but it was definitely soft. My main gripe about the bellagio game is the must-move, which has some huge stacks when you get to the main game. Downtown, I like playing at the Nugget. It may just be a sentimental favorite for me because I booked a big win there in the first NL game I'd played in Vegas, but the game is very soft and usually quite well-funded.Whatever you do, do not miss out on the 2-5 NL game at the Palm. It is unbelievable--just do not tell anyone--I would hate for that game to get competitive, for I have used it to bankroll the advertising costs for my company the last two years. The Mirage also has a good 2-5 NL game (as does the Bellagio), but I have found the players to be a lot better than what you normally find at the Palm (other than one member of the "Crew" that plays at the Palm every day). -
I don't think so. I know that the Cryptologic sites do, though.

Yup. Also, every WPT event at the Bellagio has a shot of Shana Hiatt in front of the fountain. It has a pretty cool show to music every night (not sure about the time, but you can call them to ask).Is the fountain the same one that is one Oceans 11? -
Sklansky is acknowledged for his mathematical analysis of the game, but WLLH is geared to a specific type of game that you are likely to encounter (loose, no fold 'em). It probably wouldn't hurt you to pick up both, but I definitely learned a lot from Jones. The main thing that you have to get in your head when playing low limit is "don't tell them they made the wrong play when they suck out on me," and "don't get married to my hand." Aces are very pretty to look at, but if the board is showing 4 straight, have the discipline to lay them down. Sometimes you might muck the best hand, but it won't happen nearly as often as you'll be beat by someone who stayed in with a bad draw and got lucky. Will WLLH hold share the same insights? I haven't heard much about that book but I know Skylansky is revered for his knowledge of the limit aspect of the game. Thanks for the suggestions and encouragments. -

The fremont street experience is pretty cool, so is the fountain show at the Bellagio. I've heard the Spearmint Rhino is great (after all, it is a bachelor party), though I have only been to Glitter Gulch. If you don't mind dropping some coin, the restaurant at the top of the Stratosphere has an awesome view, but, like I said, it is pricey. One of my good friends is getting married this summer and we are headed out to Vegas for the bachelor party. We will only be there for a weekend and will probably spend most of our time at the tables, but I was wondering if there are any sites that I should see on my trip or any places that I "can't miss" seeing. Thanks for the info. -
Winning Low Limit Hold 'em by Lee Jones (WLLH is how you'll often see it) is easier to read than SSHE in my opinion. Suited connectors in limit hold 'em are good in unraised multiway pots when you're in late position. Don't play them up front, and don't play them for a raise unless you have a great read on your opponent, plus position. Most of the talk you have heard about suited connectors is related to no-limit, where if you hit a flop right, you could take your opponent's stack. It is very difficult to double through an opponent in limit, so the hands lose a great deal of value.

Lol, Doyle tells about calling Johnny Moss with Jack high once, but it was correct, so I guess it makes for a better story...Mcmanus is a good writer, but he did call with a "JACK HI!" :? -
If I wore anything to a poker game on purpose, it would either be as a joke or to make myself look like a donkey. I have a Guinness shirt that I wear on the weekends when I play so that it looks like I'm there to party and have a good time. I am also planning on wearing a couple of shirts (Got Poker? and a WPT Texas Hold 'em one) to look like a kid who learned to play watching TV. However, since I look young, I'm sure they assume that about me anyway. I just have to make sure that I keep that image up, because occasionally I let the odds of something happening slip, which is a dead giveaway. Although, if I say something like "I was pot committed, that might rehabilitate the image, " since that term is almost always misused.
i completely agree. i just wasn't sure where norman thought we all took the huge nose dive into stupidity. i think its funny, but then again, i'm not mad at the world.
lol, I was just trying to bring a little levity to such a serious topic as poker fashion.
because it was running at such a high level to begin with, what with bunny suits, grandmas on tshirts (which was funny), and the words "skillz to pay the billz"and the thread drops to unbelievable levels of stupidity with that. sigh. -
I'm not sure how it tastes, but their slogan is "Great taste you can count on."
michelob andy bloch? don't even wanna know what that tastes like.....I think its Michelob Amber Boch now -

That's great advice. There's nothing that says, "If you have $x, you must move up." Sticking to games and limits where you are comfortable is an important aspect of game selection. I mostly play stud right now, just because I got a bit bored of HE and because I have found one of the softest places to play stud on the 'net. I play stud there because the game is very loose and much more profitable than their rock-garden HE game. I haven't read a lot of stud books, which maybe means that I am playing more on instinct than on trying to follow somebody's formula, or maybe I am just better at stud because I feel like it's easier to think on a higher level (What does he have, what does he think I have is much easier when you can see several of his cards). If you raise with an ace in the door, they will immediately think "He has split aces." You can often use that perception to your advantage (unless you actually DO have split aces, then you just gave away your hand). You NEVER have to move up in limits. I have seem player after player learn something and rise up thru the limits until they get killed. Play where you can win. Take some money out. 1/2 to BR, half to you. Until your BR is big enough for your limit. I play 3/6 HE. I don't play NL becuae I suck at it, and I don't want to move up because I play as much for fun as for anything else. In the mean time I'm growing the vacation fund for the kids. -
McManus wrote a section about the face cards in Positively Fifth Street.Playing cards came about by the French. The four suits were meant to represent the four social classes of French society in the 17th-19th centuries. Clubs represents peasants, diamonds represents merchants, hearts represents the clergy, and spades represents the nobility. Also, the four kings are representations of the greatest kings in history. The King of Spades represents David (from the Bible), the King of Hearts represents Charlemagne (who united all of Europe under one rule in the 8th century, I believe, hence the sword), the King of Diamonds represents Julius Caesar, and the King of Clubs represents Alexander the Great. The King of Diamonds is the only 1-eyed king. This is a representation of how he was two-faced to his people, and later betrayed to his death by his closest friends. Read the Shakespearean play Julius Caesar.Don't ask me how I know all this, and I can't remember where I learned it so I can't cite it. I just know because I'm a big goober who loves poker (and card/board games in general) entirely too much. -
I can't belive that I wrote that.

My birthday suit. I have a big, floppy distraction.

Lol, damn them. I can't believe they changed it on me! (Hellmuth style rant). How could they change beers? Didn't they know I was going to come over the top of them with Guinness?
I think its Michelob Amber Boch nowI would much rather have read:Phil Ivey parades around with Tuan Le's head on a pike after winning the WPT championship:In a rare move formerly used by medieval knights, Ivey literally got medieval on Le's ass when he beheaded him (yes, they were heads-up at the time) and paraded around the Bellagio with the head balanced on the end of a table leg. Ivey then proceeded to drink Anheiser World Select, the official beer of the World Poker Tour out of the head, and then wiped his face on Le's shirt. Ahh, if I ruled the world (SW). -
Shouldn't they be called the Rakes then?
DUDE, a Leaf is completely scary. For example,When you are raking leaves, and then you casually put your rake down. Then, boom, you step on the rake, and the handle smacks you in the face!!What if you got a leaf in your face while you were driving your convertible!! SCARY!What kind of a team names themselves after a Leaf ? How frickin' intimidating is a leaf? Tigers, Bears, Devils - SCARY, but a Leaf? -
If you can be good, we'll see (I hated we'll see when I was a kid...).
does that mean we dont get ice cream?
If you two kids don't stop fighting, I will turn this forum around, and we're going home.
good thing you backed that statement up with logic or evidence. otherwise i'd have to call you a moron!Live play: Internet play :: Paris Hilton: Mother Theresa"Much, much easier" -

His final hand was AJ against queens, though I believe that AQ may have had a role in his untimely demise. Here are a few of the hands, snarfed from pokerwire.com:John Phan doubles up through Phil IveyIvey raised to 230k and Phan pushed in for 445k more with KJ. Ivey called with AQ hearts. The board came K59J2. Rob Hollink doubles up through Phil IveyHollink pushed in for 320k and Habib called. Ivey reraised all in. Habib folded. Ivey showed AJ and Hollink showed pocket queens. The board came K8794. Habib says he had KQ and would have eliminated Hollink if Ivey hadn't raised him out of the pot.Hasan Habib busts Phil IveyHabib raised preflop and Ivey reraised all in for 535k more with AJ. Habib called with pocket queens. The board was no help for Ivey and he will go home with $264,195 for 6th place.hey, anyone know how phil went out? it wasn't a ace queen again was it? -

There was a lot of money in the pot, so it is just a math problem whether or not it was correct to call. The fold is fine, since he would have been freerolling against you. The key question might be, should you have called out of position with AJo in the first place? In limit, I would. In NL, I'm tossing it straight to the muck. It is too tough of a hand to play IMO out of position against a player you don't have a very good read on. There are some people that I'd play it against, but not many.
