  1. That is it I am officially through with Pacific Poker. First of all the customer support is soo slow, I emailed them at least 5 times with a 2 day lag in between? It is crazy, the tables are amazingly soft I am trying to get back into playing limit because I eventually want to play professionally and despite what you see on TV limit is where most of the money is made. I was playing .5/$1 and there were 9 people on the flop at one point. I played for 3 hours and if they limped and it was raised I don't know if I saw one person fold to that raise. Anyway some of the hands I played. Hand 1There were some callers in front of me I pick up 99 and raise it. I think I had 5 callers, the flop comes K96 rainbow so I hit the set (or trips) can't ever rememeber. So I raise everyone calls, I have learned that you can't slow play a set with that many callers, and even though they called anyway it added money in the pot. Then a 5 (completing the rainbow) comes out so we have K965, not all that worried that someone has a 78 and you have to bet when you have equity, i have a decent chance here of fulling up even if someone hit the straight. So I check with the idea of check raising, with this many people in the hand I have to think someone would bet. There was one person about 3 off me with a Agressivness Rating of 6 so I was almost sure he was going to bet and he did. So I raise and everyone calls. By this point there is a ton of money in the pot and river comes a 3. I wasn't to worried about that card so I bet out, the next seat raises and then a reraise. Someone hit the flush, with so much money in the pot I give a crying call (probably EV-) and he turns over the 47 for the straight. Since you can only play one table I decided that I wanted to play a little NL just to mix things up (this was a bad decision)Hand 2 there was a person who was calling 97% after 45 hands with an aggression factor of 4 he is also down like 2000bb/100 he has about 20 dollars after just reloading. So I pick up AQ raise to 1.50 and he and he reraises to 2.25 so I call. This isolates me and him, the flop comes AhTs6cS I raise 4 dollars and he pushes all in and I call he had AK and I am down a buy in. I don't see how I could get away from this hand. I mean it was a gamble and against a tight aggressive I would think about laying this down, but I couldn't do it against him. Hand 3The next hand I get is the AQ and the maniac is raises 2 dollars into me. I reraise 4 and he says (You just love giving away money huh?)the flop comes AQ9 and I Raise 4 dollars, he pushes all in and I call he turns over the 99 for the set and I lose two buy ins. After that I decided it was time to call it for the night because I don't think I was capable of playing my game after that. If anyone sees anything wrong with these hands please let me know. I am sorry that they aren't configured but I am at work bored out of my mind and I am just ranting.

  2. I just graduated college, have a crappy job dealing with rich people all day. I have toyed with the idea of going pro but then realized that I don't have the experience that I need, or the bankroll. If you are in debt and don't have a years living expenses in the bank I don't think you can afford to play professionally. There was a 2+2 article that said about playing part-time. That is what I plan on doing for the next 5-6 years until I can get my student loans paid off and get myself about 50k to play with and live off (I have really small living expenses). The other problem is people tend to underestimate the costs that they have. I have very little expenses and I spend about 1600 a month. One last piece of advise is FOOD IS EXPENSIVE. I cook at home every night (i am on a low fat low carb diet) bring lunch to work, and it costs me about 100 dollars a week.

  3. I think that the reason that most people fail like all businesses is that they don't have enough capital to start. Most of the poker articles I have read say that you need 3 months living, and 300x big blind (if you are playing limit) and I don't think this is enough. If you are already a proven player it maybe enough, but there are going to be some things you don't account for. I think the 1 year recommendation is great, if you can't turn a profit after a year, it might be time to go to school. PS another reason for this is post is a bump because it is a damn fine article

  4. There are also people that don't need the books. My friend Kyle I have been trying to get him to read a book for a long time and he refuses because he thinks he is better off spending the time at the table than reading a book. There are a lot of people out there that refuse to read a book for whatever EV- reason.

  5. I have found the best way to get money into the pot is to bet/raise every chance you get. Especially in limit, I can't tell you how many times people have been slowplaying eachother and nobody gets any money. I know it sucks when everyone folds but that won't happen much at this level.

  6. I think there is no question at this point you have to pay it off. If there is a one in 24 chance that you have the best hand (which there is) you should call. Do you have a read on the button? Is he in a lot of hands or is he super aggressive. The only way I fold here is if he is a rock. You might be up against a set.

  7. Hand 1You missed the flop, you have a gutshot without the pot odds to chase. Gotta foldHand 2I don't really like the raise preflop, the problem with this is that with KQ and someone three betting there is a decent chance that he might have AK or AQ. Now if you have been watching him and he is likely to three bet with just about anything ignore this. I think KQ unsuited can be just as bad as the dreaded KJ. After you miss the flop get out.

  9. Why would you raise 2x that will almost never drive anyone out of the pot and I think with AQ you should want to drive people out of the pot. Raise 3x-4x and then it will really make him think about throwing it away. As it has been said 2x raises make me throw up in my mouth. :-)
