How bad were the Habs tonight?
Even Boone Jenner got a point.

It'd be an interesting dynamic. I don't know if I'd want to wager a $3 salary on a 16 year old that may or may not pan out.

I would say a 10 on the rebuilding year scale.
Palat and Reider can put up points now and then. Yakupov and Hansen can too if the stars are aligned. Hayes and Wingels should be cut but unfortunately I don't have Danny in the league anymore to trade them to.
That's actually my C lineup for tonight. I have 18 forwards and they're actually all playing so I thought it'd be fun to see how many points these guys can put up. Kind of like how World Cup organizers envisioned Team Europe.

Unbelievable. It's quite possible that when it's all said and done, Auston Matthews plays the best statistical game of his career in his first ever game.

I guess you could say the goalies are a Wash

Tried to get tickets to Game 2 this morning. No luck.

The FCHL had our auction last night. Your Newmarket Hurricanes went into the auction needing 6 skaters and 1 set of goalies and had a total of $43.00 to spend. That may sound like a lot of money, but it actually had us sitting 5th out of 15 owners in available money.
We started planning our attack 2 weeks ago and devised a list of potential candidates who had one goal in mind. Winning a championship. We met with all of the free agents during freeze week and filtered out who was in it for individual gain, and who really wanted to go to war for the other 27 in the locker room. Patrick Kane wasn't pleased with the playing time we gave him during last year's playoffs and wouldn't even meet with us. Tyler Seguin talked a big game and badly wanted to be here, but he wouldn't buy into our Arp - small ball style we were hoping for. Plus it was his first time hitting the free agent market and he wanted to get paid. With his absolutely atrocious playoff schedule, we politely told him no thanks. Ovechkin, Malkin, and Stamkos wanted to make a big 3 super team, but there's no way we, or anyone for that matter, could really afford to. Malkin and Stamkos did eventually sign together on a New York based team, but Ovechkin did not join them.
We wound up sticking true to our plan, and landed the following 6 weapons to be used at our disposal...
Daniel Sedin - $7.50
Brad Marchand - $7.50
Anze Kopitar - $11.25
Jaromir Jagr - $3.00
Henrik Sedin - $4.50
Wayne Simmonds - $6.25
We also secured the best goalie set from last season for $0.75 in the Anaheim Ducks, to go along with the 2nd best goalies from last season in the Washington Capitals. This leaves us with 2 non goalie nights in the playoffs which goes against our usual MO, but thanks to a new method of scouting that we did this year, this should not be a problem.

If I'm not mistaken it's because you limit the length of time that players can be controlled once on the active roster to 5 years ? That move when you set up your rules made it so that the pool could sustain without major changes. If you have low rookie contracts and you can sign players for unlimited years then it's a different story.
Exactly. You can have a player on your roster for 6 years that is very cost controlled even for the biggest rookie superstars. After 6 years he goes on the open market and gets paid his true value. (just like in the NHL)
I do like the franchise player idea though and I'd love to see it introduced in the F. I feel you should be able to have one player that you can keep for 10-12 years at a manageable amount...although not on a AHL contract like Subban. I think franchise contracts should only be allowed if the player falls into Tier 1, or maayybe Tier 2.

The FCHL free agent auction goes tomorrow evening.
Lots of talent available. $473.25 to spend.
Kane, Karlsson, Seguin, Stamkos, Malkin, Kopitar, Bergeron, Spezza, Jagr... and tons more.
Impossible. How can we have so much talent available at auction, while still maintaining manageable rookie salaries?

Impressive team you're building there, Swacker Dave.

For those of you that dont read the AHL forums..Biatch to JP one of the classic lines I have ever read.
Biatch tells JP he should change his team name to the Right Lane from Underdogs..
Because he is getting passed all the time..
I love that guy
Biatch has been Right Laned by Rich.

Merry Christmas, friends.

I think we should be allowed to move picks the week before the draft since backdoor deals take place anyway.

How many advance?

I probably should be in, but I can't. I just love eating unhealthy.

Thanks Zach. It's nice when a plan comes together.
A very competitive season all around by so many managers. It's great to see.

Wow, I feel it's a small victory taking 2 games off the Steelheads last series.
Congrats Chris!
