  1. How often was he 3-betting preflop?I 4-bet this a lot, but I generally play guys who have about a half-buy-in.Obviously, any other reads are of the utmost importance in any heads-up hand.
edit: This was a relatively new opponent and I didn't have much of a read on him, although I did see him play aggressively with 33 on a previous hand.
  2. Trying to improve my hu play. Wasn't sure what to do when facing this all-in situation:This was a relatively new opponent and I didn't have much of a read on him, although I did see him play aggressively with 33 on a previous hand.PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $10.00 BB (2 handed) - Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.comSB ($1064)Hero (Button) ($1350)Preflop: Hero is Button with 10club.gif, 10diamond.gifHero raises to $30, SB raises to $100, Hero calls $70Flop: ($200) 8club.gif, 7club.gif, 6club.gif(2 players)SB bets $120, Hero raises to $260, SB raises to $964 (All-In)

  3. Here's what I did:Started off at play money tables and read some of the books mentioned above until I was comfortable with the nuances of the game (yes, I just said nuances)...then I deposited $75 and played small/micro stakes for 1-2 years until I could win at these lower levels (~100K hands). Eventually I couldn't improve my game any further on my own and subscribed to Cardrunners ( I wouldn't recommend this step too early though)...this by far made the biggest difference for me. Move up levels only when you have accumulated cash (a buffer/bankroll) at the lower levels.

  4. I was able to build up to Step 5 twice in June when trying to qualify for the WSOP. I never got a shot at Step 6. In '09 I will be tempted to use 131K FPP's for 1 shot at Step 6. Any thoughts?I would hate to lose knowing that I could use the points for $2K in gift certificates at Future Shop.

  5. I am going to teach my children that life, like poker, is really just a series of decisions. When making a decision in life, like in poker, you need to consider all of the variables at play in order to make the best decion possible. In the long run, the most successful people will have made the best decisions along the way. Life, like poker, has a huge luck element and we cannot control the results...we should try and focus on good decision making knowing that in the long run things should work out. Bad beats and bad decisions will happen both in poker and in life...as long as you learn from your mistakes, go ahead and forgive yourself and move on to the next hand.

  6. No man, we're talking about you doing the snap calling.we're talking about having quad 8's and getting our all in river raise snap called. and thinkking Crap he has AA. instead of "yaa ship it, i have quad 8's"thats my point. You opened for 4x BB. and i said, what hands does HERO (you) open with at fullring UTG.. and a couple tards said Ax.. and I said. AK, and maybe AQ. thats it.
    Got it.
  7. Not true, AX potentially eventually calls with no reads.how bad of a player is he though that he is opening UTG with Ax? at full ring AK, and maybe AQ only.now given that, why does he slow down on the turn with AK/AQ? you're villain, u just made quads and he slowed down after this is potentially his safest card?u check it through and the A on the river falls. with AK/AQ hero now has Aces full of 8's which makes his kicker pointless. ANY HERO with half a brain would realize that at best he is chopping this pot if he calls.which means that our hero would (or should) potentially think for longer than 1 second about calling. which is why i stand by my previous point that if he snap calls. yu have to have a sinking feeling that its AA
Small point, but he didn't open...he flat called preflop UTG+1
  8. why check raise there?what do you hope he has? 6's full? you're going to get all his chips by betting anyways.are you hoping he bluffs?? wtf did he calll preflop and flop with? and in the slim chance it is a bluff, or semi bluff, you eliminate his ability to see a river where he might alrfeady be drawing dead.
In my experience, most players with a set are raising me on the flop to try and build the pot and hoping that I can't lay down AK. At that point I figured him for either Ax or something like 99 (calling my semi-weak flop bet in position to see how I play the turn).
  9. also, while we're on it.I bet this turn card. thats a perfect card for you (In your mind) If he's chasing a OESD (which is brutal to be playing 7,9s UTG+1... but its probably within range here without any real reads) or has any decent sized piece he's calling. you arent going to get all in the turn by c/r'ing here.what you can do is inflate the pot enoughh so you can value bet the river for hopes of A- he has a weak Ace and call, and B he missed his OESD and re-pops to steal when he thinkks you're weak, and or C - he has 6's full and shovels and or D he has quads and u suck out.
I was going for a check-raise on the turn. With this hand I didn't figure I'd be able to get it all in. I would have settled for a good size turn bet to try and push me off the hand. Side note...I lost 1K last month when my JJJ lost to 888 when an 8 came on the turn...almost happened again...I consider this poker justice! Pay it forward.

  11. Full ring NL cash games ($2/4 - $3/6)...I'm raising with a solid range of hands from various positions and will ocassionally get 3-bet...often my hands are not strong enough to 4-bet, but the question is when should I be calling vs. folding. When in position I will typically call with pp's. When out of position I still often find myself calling with pp's hoping to hit a set. With big suited connectors should I be folding to 3 bets when IP and OOP. Assume for now that I don't have any reads on my opponents. Thanks in advance.

  12. Wow, props to you for thatYou did well playing .25/.50NL with 75$roll and not going broke! Was that graph for the same stakes?
The first graph was mostly $.50/$1NL and some $1/2NL.With the second graph I have climbed up to mostly $2/4NL and $3/6NL, and have even now dabbled in $5/10NL.
  13. A SINCERE thank you to all FCP'ers for your help in turning my game around. I know that I am not a central member of this community but I visit daily and post occasionally and have definitely benefitted from your collected wisdom.I am a recreational player and started playing roughly 4 years ago...1st play money, then I got up the nerve to deposit $75 on UB and as a weak/tight player managed to GRIND out some money over 18 months playing $.25/.50NL...I then got frustrated with the ups and downs and quit for a year. Last year I decided to try again (this time on PS) and again was able to grind out a little as a weak/tight player, but I felt/knew that my game was really weak.Everything changed this spring when I took the advice from some FCP'ers and joined CR. With their help I was able to add aggression to my game, and with your help I was able to plug some big leaks. The results have blown me away. The reason I am posting now is because I have achieved and surpassed some of my long term goals, and really I just want to say thanks. Proud of myself too...I've definitely worked hard at this. Here comes the brag/proof part...I've attached below my PT3 summaries from before joining CR and after (this is not intended as a CR promotion/testimonial).
