  1. Any of you think these two guys are happy? Fark, I hate materialism. That house just reeks with agony to me. They have no life, no nothing. They just dont get it. Money. My. Somebody smack them up and show them why they were put on this earth. Sure wasnt to be in that deathhouse. Am I the only one who gets this? Has the whole world gone mad? Poker is a game that we love. The game. We want to win money, but we dont wanna be ruled by the game. These guys have got nothing. Absolutely nothing.

  2. From Cardplayer:"Sun Jul 09 22:46:00 PDT 2006Fan Brought to TearsIn an outpouring of emotion after meeting Daniel Negreanu, a fan at the ladies event weeps after meeting the poker star and recieving a hug and autograph. As a chain reaction Anjela Brunson, sitting next to her, also began to cry along with a few other women holding back their tears. "I mean, this is such a nice image. Gives a nice perspective on what poker have become today if you compare what it used to be in the old days. I wonder what Amarillo Slim would say about this. A woman starts crying at the table and all other women cant hold back their tears. Dont give me wrong, I dont mind women at the table, quite the contrary. But come on...

  3. The purpose of this thread is to gather tips and information about the best way to approach your mother when it comes to exlplaning that poker is not gambling. I am 26 years old and I work in a bank. On the side I play poker online and have been doing so since october 2004. I am a winning player, not big time but I am a consistently winning player. My games of choice is shorthanded 1-2 NL HE and 2-4 fixed Omaha H/L. Now it may sound strange for me being 26 and all to care about what my mother thinks about poker. But the thing is that my mother doesnt feel good at all knowing I play poker. She is convinced poker is the devul and genuinely believes I am destroying my life. I dont want her to feel that way, I want my mother to feel good. So this is the way Ive been trying to explain poker to her.1. Poker is about making the right choices, its not about winning pots. Winning pots is irrelevant in the long run. 2. As long as I know I am making the correct statistical choices, the only factor that determines how much money I will make is the amount of hours spent at the table. 3. Regarding the fact that during some days its possible to lose money I tell her this: Imagine you had an assymetrical coin, which when flipped ended up on the crown-side 55% of the time and tail 45%. In this scenario you will know that when you flipp it calling out "crown" you would be making a statistical correct decision. If crown gives + 1 dollar and tail - 1 dollar the only factor determining your profit is time. Now it is very likely that if you flip it 500 times "tails" will come out on some occasion maybe 7 or 8 times in a row anyway. These are the bad sessions at the poker table. Now please come with more suggestions!FOr the sake of every young pokerplayers with motherproblems!

  4. Yeah, he's not playing well at all in these televised cash games. He's just tossing his money in with inferior hands 100% of the time and not sucking out on his opponents. What a donk....(sw, except for that horrible 40k call on the river when he should have known he was beat. That's about it as for as terrible play goes.)
I dont agree fully. Consider a scenario where he wasnt up against quads or river boat beats he would have finished this game about 600-700K up. Small margins in poker.
  5. Beal has guts that most people on this forum only dream of having. He knew nothing about LHE, taught himself to play a VERY difficult variation of it (heads-up), and had the balls to put up his own money playing the very best players in the world (and while the money wasn't much of a risk -- the public humiliation he risked from losing a large sum WAS very meaningful). The pros got to switch players, whereas he had no tag team. He gave beatings in some sessions and took a beating in others. Like every heads-up LHE player in the world does.Frankly, if the pros were honest, they'd admit that their edge over Beal was very, very small. Playing $50K-$100K blinds, $3M is absolutely a pittance. Those of you who are rejoicing over Beal's "demise" are ridiculous. He's richer than you'll ever be (and entirely self-made), smarter than you'll ever be, and he'd beat the living crap out of any of you heads-up.And, significantly, he's done something that probably no one else on this forum has or will ever do -- earned respect from the best players in the world for his heart and skill at playing a game at the highest levels. No one should hate on Andy Beal or run their mouth. It's irritating that people with few or no real accomplishments in the real world (let alone poker) should make derogatory comments about a guy who they should respect and admire for his brains and talent.I very much doubt that Beal is quitting because he feels "beaten." He's probably just confirmed to himself that he's playing a close to even-money affair for an amount of money that means nothing to him. He has better things to do, I'm sure. He might be back, he might not. I doubt it's anything close to as big a deal to him as it is to many of the micro-limits wannabes on this forum.
What you just wrote is one of the mostwell put posts Ive seen in 10 months on this forum. It is nice to hear that not everyone here are clueless disrespectful MTV youngsters. My hat´s off to you sir. See you at the tables.
  6. Maybe Im way off here, but this certainly is interesting...Words by Daniel in May this year from a thread about the limit challenge match vs. Joe Cassidy:"In fact, I would stake Joe in limit hold'em against Barry anytime. I'd also stake Jennifer Harman, Todd Brunson, Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, John D'Agostino, Erick Lindgren, Erik123, David Oppenhiem, Ted Forrest, Ray Dekargani, John Hennigan and several others in limit hold'em against Barry. I think it's one of his worst games. "Judging from his words here and by the fact that Daniel a week ago refered to Dreamclown as some punk/kid and wrote about table ethics etc., I would suggest that Daniel didn't know he was actually facing one of the players he respects most in Limit Holdem. I mean, look at the company in which he mentions Ray.I might be wrong, but Ive looked at the previous posts and it didn't seem as if Daniel knew who he was facing, judging from the way he talked about him...Just a thought. An interesting one to me.

  7. When you sign up for an account there is a field asking for a promotion number. In the mail to all of us charter members Daniel told us we will get 100% bonus on our first deposit and better rake conditions. However, there was no promotion number or anything like that included in the mail. Anyone know if we have to put anything in that field? Thanks.

  8. Oh, and when I push all-in on Full Tilt and I have the best hand... It actually holds up once in awhile. Just sayin.
Pretty amazing that so many decent players on this forum say that and actually believe it.Watched the first heads up travis seemed to really get run over but I would think some of it was the cards.
I will back Suited on this 100%. I played exlusively at pokerstars for over 2 yrs and I couldn't take the crazy crap that happened there anymore. Most recently on stars I was knocked out of 19 consecutive MTTs and SNGs as a 80%+ favorite preflop or postflop. Made the switch to FT and I love it. My big hands hold up, floppin the nuts or a set are good things, etc.Only problem is the traffic. It needs to at least triple.
I agree too. The things I have seen on stars for the last month is truly amazing. I have made statistics on all my allin situations in SitnGos, both 80-20 situations like overpair vs. underpair and also typical 60-40 situations like AK vs. J10. I lost 19 out of 46 allins with an overpair and I lost 26 out of 49 when I was a 60-40 favourite. I am now officially leaving pokerstars although I will miss the blindstructure. The structure at full tilt is to fast in the beginning.
  9. I saw this kid play a few 100/200 hands a little while back and just completely blew me away. I would take him to win over anyone in that game any day. His instincts coupled with proper execution, time and time again was worthy of praise. Every single hand he got in every extra bet, either with the nuts or completely marginal to crap hands. I got chills, kinda like watching Ivey. You cannot teach yourself what this kid knows.  My insights on a remarkable talent who is worthy of respect and praise.
I dont know you. You might be a good player. But that attitude you seem to have, that one player can be so outstanding in one session of limit poker is just wrong. Alright, he might have maximised his good hands and minimised his bad ones, but saying you could follow his every move and determine whether or not his play was optimal is just like saying you are as good as him. What you saw was probably a good player having a good run of cards. One session of poker is highly dependant on the run of cards, no matter your level of skill. To say that he would beat any player on any given day is just so naive. Thats not limit poker. Limit is longrun.
Well, the thing is that he is one of the worlds most profitable online players... So it's not just over one session...
I know that. I know his ability. I am swedish myself and I have played with Erik. I just wanted to give my opinion on the posters view on this game. I have noticed many pro-wannabes has the same attitude.

  11. First of all, I would just like to say good first post. It was well written and concise. As far as your hand in the tourney goes, i think you have to make that play. If he's an aggressive player he could be raising with a lot of hands that you have dominated as well as coinflip situations. At this point in the tourney you're doing ok to race for your money because you need to make a move. You're goal is to win, not to sneak into the money and win your buy in back. You have to get lucky to win these things, and that means winning your share of races. With the blinds increasing quickly, you have to get in there and gamble. I like your play there. Keep it up.
You, my friend, has THE avatar.
  12. Alright, Im facing a pretty big decision and would need some advice.I´ve been multitabling Nl 1/2 for three months now and show an average daily profit of 179 dollars(33/hour) , something I am very satisfied with. However, the negative aspects of sitting inside in front of the computer are starting to wear on me. I mean, doing nothing constructive day out and day in makes you feel kind of outside the society. I dont pull my straw to the stack so to say(swedish expression). I know I am well capable of moving up in limits and probably make a living at this, but to what expense? Less social life, having to explain your choice several times a week to ignorant people and so on. I know that if I continue moving up in limits now I will not be able to go back to a regular job, because of....well you know...less green. Is money everything that counts?Any suggestions how you grinders out there cope with this dilemma? In or out?Im gonna count the flames. Thanks!

  13. You'll get through it bro. I lost a girlfriend not to long ago as well for the same reason...for some reason girls dont like it when i play online poker eight hours a day.Anyways, it will heal with time...just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will stumble into another relationship in no timeGood luck.
Did you look behind the couch? That's where I look when I lose things. Sorry, for some reason I love that joke.Unfortunately, a lady I knew that had a one year old always on her arm told me she lost the baby (she always called her kid the baby) and I made that joke knowing the kid was in the car. Turns out she was pregnant and thought I knew and she had a miscarriage. I felt silly for a minute but now I have that story to tell. moral: everything has a silver lining.
ouch. thats even worse than calling someone pregnant when they're just fat.
I did that. Yesterday. Just horrible.
