  1. Taken from: http://kottke.org/05/09/health-care-in-americaHealth care in AmericaSorry for the extensive quote, but this paragraph (along with the following one) in Malcolm Gladwell's article about health care in America does a fine job in laying out why it's failing: The U. S. health-care system, according to "Uninsured in America," has created a group of people who increasingly look different from others and suffer in ways that others do not. The leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States is unpaid medical bills. Half of the uninsured owe money to hospitals, and a third are
  2. So if there are relatively few problems with your health service(if it can be called that) why is Obama making health care such a primary point of his campaign? He is hardly going to waste his time promising change in a system that everyone is so blissfully content with,or even if there was a general level of content. Are you seriously saying that Obama is fabricating the poor state of health care in America? Seems to me a lot of people on here reside in cloud cuckoo land.
  3. Ok, As much as I hate Michael Moore(He's a propaganda dramatist who overdoes the hyperbole), there were some very valid and solid points made in the documentary "Sicko".Ignoring the drama, the stories themselves were shocking, and uncovered the realities of not having insurance in America,or even the problems that can occur when you do. People losing limbs and being faced with the proposition of either coughing up 60k or doing without:People with insurance being denied due to the insurance company meticulously researching the patients' records, and if there was the slightest anomaly( a yeast in
  4. Nimue, you may as well just ignore the opinions of the hardcore Republicans on here:they have absolutely no idea what there are even saying(see the health care argument that idiot Copernicus made, beyond retarded). They have been so conditioned by watching Fox news, plus the fact they were never even contemplating voting for the Democrats anyway. You may as well be debating with a large, steaming pile of donkey dodo. They won't be changing their minds and why should they? The country is in great shape with no problems and everything is rosy. The next 8 years will hopefully be just as successful a
  5. I apologise profusely for this blatant act. I have adjusted the image accordingly.
  6. This is totally oxymoronic! How could changing direction from what has been one of the most unsuccessful governments in US history, result in disaster? America is already a disaster, if elected Obama will have to pick up the proverbial pieces and salvage whats left of the wreckage.I fail to see how he could be worse.
  7. I apologise, I thought it meant "quoted for the truth",or was associated with quotations.I didn't realise that there is a different protocol for internet terminology on this forum.
  8. You can't QFT something that is based on a quote that has lies in it( I never said anything of the sort that Balls Man is accusing me of), that would make it a QFL.What is it about the GOP and it's supporters ,that they have to twist the truth and spend large amounts of their time QFLing?
  9. Whenever they are confronted with this question the fluffy bunny that controls their brain tells them this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZuen_-n_TM...feature=related
  10. I never said it was free, or if I did I meant available.BTW I despise the Labour government, and Stalin Brown must be voted out at the next election. But this topic has nothing to do with the thread really, and it detracts from the overall debate, so please stick to the main issue.
  11. Where did I say that? Of course there are problems with the NHS, but where would you rather be if you had a serious illness? Unless you have decent insurance plan I already know the answer.
  12. WOW! Ok, lets say hypothetically speaking, someone loses their job after slaving away for 20 years in a low paid job without a pension and pays tax. They can't find employment due to a tough economic climate and unfortunately contracts cancer. Are you seriously suggesting that person shouldn't be given a high level of treatment or any at all? Should people who can't afford insurance be left to rot in the streets, or receive a seriously low standard of care in insufficiently funded second grade hospitals? I hate pointless social welfare programs which essentially burdens the tax payer, but fundam
  13. I agree with the sentiment that hard work should be rewarded, and welfare should be monitored meticulously to stop people fleecing the state, and ultimately the taxpayer. But health care should be available to all, even those who can't afford it.Just like education should be and is.Or is this me being a socialist?
  14. Wiz Adults' pwning batteries are currently recharging, please wait..............
  15. Can I just say this post was intended to be about the American election not the UK's.Britain has it's own problems but they are in a separate league to yours.I despise the current government and am a supporter of the opposition party but not a blind follower.Anyway I have owned you so badly today on every issue my pwning batteries need recharging.
  16. You know that you have won an argument when a poster runs out of excuses, and nitpicks for spelling errors. You were pretty awful, in your language you were "ass wooped"
  17. Just to inform you: the current Government is at record levels of disapproval from the public. The opposition will be the next government, because unlike in your country, people are prepared to switch 'sides', and don't bow down to whoever is in charge of their 'traditional' party.Tony Blair was rightfully kicked out by his dealings with Bush.
  18. Actually, it was an analogy for the dangers associated with blindly conforming to authority figures in groups, no matter what their proposals are.Not that you would understand this, far to complex for the likes of you.
  19. If you had even bothered to read my views you would discover that I am in no way a 'leftist' but you obviously haven't.I don't care if you see it that way,it's your prerogative. I find your comments actually deeply disturbing;you support your party no matter what? This is exactly what happened in Germany and this is in fact, how evil manifests itself. The fact that you are not concerned at your parties activities over the last 8 years essentially means your opinion is completely and utterly worthless. No matter what your party proposes you will support it, this is downright preposterous. You are
  20. This thread is actually hilarious, I'm being called a racist! And yet these same ignorant people are the ones questioning whether America is ready for a black president. Why is Obama's race even mentioned if racism is not a problem in your country? Surely it should be about how capable he is as opposed to his race, so why even mention it? Anyway like I aforementioned,The GOP voters on here were never even considering Obama,Hillary or anyone else from the Democratic party,so as far as I'm concerned their opinion is worthless.
  21. The ultimate irony, a redneck Republican attempting to call me a racist. You're doing just what your party does, twisting an argument to hide the real facts.I'm not the one opposing a candidate due to him being black like a huge proportion of GOP voters are.Lets face the facts, this is the fundamental reason why Obama isn't steamrolling Mccain. You sir are one deluded individual.
  22. I was not suggesting that abortion should be encouraged: I was merely implying that the majority of abortions are a direct result of a lack of education. And in the poorer areas people are not educated properly on the matter of contraception.Anyway like I said, Obama is advocating the choice, if you don't want an abortion don't get one.Pretty simple really.
  23. It's ironic that the Republicans condemn abortion and then profess to be the party that encourages personal responsibility. They will then accuse poor people of not taking the wonderful chance of life and how people who don't succeed due their own ineptitude. What you don't seem to understand is that children born into a demographic where there is abject poverty will invariably end up in the same situation as their parents. They will be more likely to take drugs, live shorter lives and be a greater burden to the state due to them needing social welfare support.Statistics prove this. Anyway, I m
  24. Ok lets face some cold hard facts here: Trying to engage in a debate with the GOP supporters on here is pointless and stupid, why? Because even prior to the Democrat nominee being selected their loyalties were already decided. No matter who the GOP selected they were already preparing excuses to support them, and they will support anyone who is running for their party no matter how absurd(Look at Palin), and they will never change their opinion( Kind of the like the Germans who supported Hitler). The last 8 years haven't even occurred to them, the overwhelming problems that have besieged the coun
  25. Mit Romney is a Neo-Liberal, ie far right. How embarrassing that a foreigner knows more about your politics then you do. Btw making unsubstantiated assumptions is exactly why you are voting for Mccain.
