  1. Pardon me guys, I was just reading my comment that got me bashed and realized what I had said about the 10/20 nl game. I meant I have no problem getting into a 10/20 LIMIT game. Major difference. Big diffence from sitting down with $500 and sitting down with a few thousand.Sorry!

  2. its all good paul. I dont get worked up over the interweb.
Thanks for overlooking my idiotic reaction.I wish I hadn't been so worked up over the bashers. Getting there though. Most of the guys I thought were pure jerks are turning out to be great teachers.
  3. no worries, hows pokerVT treating you, you still having lots of success ?
Broke the streak this week on tournaments. I only played once and went out after the second break. No more, once a week final tables. I have been to over 20 final tables and I'm way up. Cash and online are a totally different story. It's like starting all over again.Played a couple of cash games and found no success but thanks to guys on the strategy forum, I might do better with the transition. I'm getting more out of the strat forum than I ever have with PVT cash advice. It's great to have players that play it all the time give hand evaluations on my mistakes. Kinda like free coaching!I still think that the guys on PVT need to look more into getting some of the guys here to teach 1/2nl live. If I were them, I would go to the Strat forum and get a few guys there to teach 1/2nl. There is a huge difference in playing a table full of pros and a table full of drunks, fish, first timers, and such. There's a big difference from watching Paul Wasicka play Alex Outhred headsup in a 1/2 nl game live and hearing how one pro is thinking what the other pro is thinking.Alex and I were playing in a tournament together. We were reading each others hands almost exactly every time. When I go to the 1/2nl games, I think that the guy has to have a monster because of how he's playing. The problem is, he's playing like he has a monster because he truly THINKS he has a monster and it throws me way off! In tournaments, you can grind them out and they usually get knocked out with the increase in structure and wild allins. Not so in live cash. Can't compare the stuff I see on live cash with sitting at a live 1/2 nl game and watching the poor first timers walk away with $700 and thinking that poker is raising with any ace and hitting it and getting two pair on the river. They come back the next time and go broke and then eventually they are asking you to buy them in when you see them a week later. Saddest thing I have seen is a kid that turned 21 and is the worst player you will ever meet. He hit the bad beat and his portion was about $40,000. He's donking it off to the grinders now because he thinks he's a pro. PVT will grow and it will take time. They just need to remember back to the days when they were playing in the atmosphere we are playing in.I would like them to have people teach 1/2 that actually play 1/2 everyday and are successful. Same for all the areas of poker.Too much thinking going on or do you think I'm hitting pretty close?
  4. Well, fish is a relative term. There are a lot of players that can beat 1/2NL live, but are considered fish in most online microstakes games.
I'm definately a lunker online and at 1/3 nl. It's just that I can't get over the dramatic difference in my transition from tournaments to cash. I was a pretty decent, not great, live 1/2nl player before but those days are gone.Hopefully with the advice of posters like you and D, I might get back on track.
  5. paul relax hes right here , you dont start 1/2 or 2/4unless your ready to lose a few hundred at a time . he wasnt saying your wrong he meant start lower. 1/2 no limit is a big game for a beginer id suggest 5.10 cent and challenge your self to move up to 1/2 the prpoer way.not everyone has as much money as you where 1/2 is a starting game, thats all i think he meant
Dude, you're right. I keep forgetting that we are mainly talking online poker here. I don't play online poker so my advice was way out of line. I am a micro-micro-micro player when I do play, which is about twice a year. Forgive me pro. You were just getting some flak from the crap I've been getting from a few shitheads and I thought you were just joining in. Sorry dude.Let me start over. If you are not able to play online, start at the lowest table limit there is, which is 1/3 nl and 2/4 limit at my casino. I really don't like 2/4 because the rake kills you!If you are online, do like pro says and start at the smallest limit possible. Set a goal of so much money and when you reach that goal, move up. If you don't find success for a while then go back. Sorry again pro.
  6. BigD, you are correct in that no one has ever seen us together. My wife and I do have a horse ranch, and a horse that looks just like that. Just this one thing though. Look closely at the video, you can see this girl with a camera that many have thought was dutch in drag. Just putting that out there. If I can confirm this, it would prove that we are two different people. Please don't let this hurt my chances of being the flower girl. My wife is making the dress and that much fabric almost took all my tournament wins this week.

  7. First why are you raising preflop? Your hand plays well multiway and you're in position. Why attempt a steal here when it's likely to fail?On the flop you have no choice but to raise. You go broke to better hands.More importantly, if this game is 1/3 - shouldn't you buy in for more than 150?
Good points. I did buy in for more. I don't want to go there... lol. I did buy in the next day for only $100. That may be one of my main problems with buy ins. Maybe I should put the max down which is $300 or half the largest stack.Definately something for me to think about.
  8. In a nutshell, deeper stacks. In a tournament you are rarely playing with 100BB+ stacks past the first couple of levels. Most of your decisions are made by the flop, whereas in a cash game there's more money in stacks to play on the turn and river. Also, more tournament poker is played on tv than cash. So when fishes deposit online they flock more to the tournaments, since that's what they've seen on tv.
This fish isn't going to online sites at all. I play live and do well in tournaments but suck big time online and in live cash. I think your response is spot on with the stacks and such. Thanks
  9. i bet about 60-75 here and NEVER fold when villain shoves this particular flop. This is (almost always) a great flop for you and besides the (unfortunate) flopped sets, only AA is really beating you here. Many times villain will have JJ or QQ and we will scoop in this spot, but as maniac limped i think we can erase AA, QQ, JJ, and 10s from his range here. He got lucky and out-flopped you... sucks but part of the game
All are good responses and greatly appreciated. I guess that my tournament mentality is kicking in on cash games way to hard. Thanks again guys.
  10. Besides me being a total donkey on the cash tables, what do you think are some of the diffences in the two? I have had a wonderful heater for about four months on tournaments but started playing cash again recently and find that my cash game is total crap. Playing mainly 1/3 tables. Play 10/20 limit when they have it, which is only a couple of times a week. I do a little better there. This really reminds me of a story of a guy that won the US open back in the 30's or 40's. A guy said to analyze his grip and such and write a book. He said he didn't know how he did it and after analyzing it he developed a huge slice and never had the same results again. Anyone else had the same results or any reasoning?

  11. Here's one more for you. I only have three topics today and want to thank everyone for the great responses. I think I finally found the adults!1/3 nl table.I am on the button. I saw very few folds to a $10 raise with more than 3 limpers. We had 5 limpers (I think. It was a couple of days ago.) I think the pot was $19. I was on the button with 8-7 off and had been semi-aggressive playing 20%-25% of the pots. I almost folded and decided to raise.I raised $15 into the $19 pot with sb and bb to go. SB calls. BB calls. everyone else folds. SB has been a pretty smart player so far. He has about $250, BB is loose and has about $300, and I have about $150. Flop is 9s-10s-Js. SB betsBB calls Hero does what?

  12. Hey guys, I need a little input. I play tons of tournaments and very little cash. Played cash for about 1 1/2 years with semi-positive results. Decided I would expand my repertoire, so to say, and I'm having a little trouble.I would like a hand analysis on this. This is new to me so please advise if I give too much information on these things and I'll make adjustments1/3 table. 1 excellent player (not me!) who plays every night and I was waiting for the 2/5 table to open, 5 rocks, 1 new first timer that played any face card with a $15 dollar raise, 1 maniac that played every hand and raised every time after the flop if no one else raised (as did the new player), and me. I had played about 10% of the hands. Played tight. Was up about $25-$30 and lost it when I turned top to pair and I folded to a board of 4d-6d-Q-5d, when maniac raised 2x pot. He made his strait on the river with a 7 and had Q-3. This was two hands before the bomb hit me. Table is set up like this (money is close but not exact); 1 Rock $60, 2 top player $300 (just sat down), 3 rock $200, 4 idiot (me) $100 (sat with $100 and had been going up and down a little), 5 rock $ 85, 6 rock $125, 7 MANIAC $150 (sat down after me), 8 Rock $200, 9 new player loose aggressive $700 (they said he started with $300 and was on a major heater), 10 tight aggressive $200 . I just won about $60 against the new player with 10h-7h in the SB. All limpers and I flopped a strt flush draw and then the flush on the turn.I then had about $160 in front of me. The maniac had about $150.I hadn't even sorted my chips and see KK. 5 seat limps, 6 seat limps, 7 seat (maniac) limps, 8 seat limps, 9 seat limps, 10 seat limps, 1 seat folds, 2 seat limps, 3 seat SB folds. I raise $25 into a $22 pot. I had not seen the maniac fold any ace to any $10 or $15 dollar bets with that many limpers. Maybe I should have raised $20?Every one folds but the Maniac and the new player. I've lost control of the pot now. $91 in the pot. I have about $135 left. Maniac has about $125 and the new player has over $600. Flop was 10-6-3 rainbow. I considered a $50 raise and started counting it out and I can slightly see the maniac grabbing a stack to push in and the new player counting his chips to push in as he always did when making a call. I guess I made my biggest mistake here. I pushed all in. The maniac immediately calls and the new player thinks a while and folds. The maniac had pocket threes and of course they held up.Again, please forgive me for too much information. Just need to see what you come up with here. Thanks

  13. check-raising is pretty fked up Paul. If you have to check-raise to win, you really can't play the game as well as you think daniel taught you.
You're right loosh. Thank you for the correction. That was not in PVT. Daniel is not to blame for my mis-doings. I'm going to give everyone their money back tomorrow. Thanks for showing me the light!

    great post
  15. ahhhh if it was only so simple. I think your getting wayyyy ahead of yourself here. from the sounds of it you sounds pretty new. Id say go as low and you can go and work your way up. Read a book or two aswell.
An iv u getz looky youz mite gets to reads one uf profx's buks. Hes da bes. Iz bot Pros buk "Lern 2 pla pker wif fonics". Is gret
  16. if you want to go broke listen to this guy.
I stand corrected. You should go ahead and only play serious poker after you are playing 4k/8k. If you're playing anything else, just go in, and sit down and the highest limit table there is and pick an ace to go all in on.Thanks profcker9 for pointing out my faults. If you hadn't corrected me he might have started playing serious in a smaller limit game. THANK YOU GOD FOR THIS FORUM AND THE POSTER HEREIN THAT ARE ALL KNOWING!!! AMEN!!!!!
  17. THis is some of the funniest stuff I have ever read! The same guys that think it's not ethical to check raise are the same guys that think it's ok to alienate other posters! If we make a code of honor not to check raise, do we kick the guys out that keep making all-in calls with 7s-2s against a guy that has Aces, just because it's his favorite hand and he hits his flush? I think it's kinda like the guy that says, "You can't hit me with that chair. We're in a fair bar fight and since I started it, I make the rules!"PLZ!!! Get real. It's poker!

  18. Agreed. This will help if I ever get enough $$$ to get in Bobby's room!!!!
I have to agree for the most part. The one thing that I do wish, and he might be doing it so I don't know, is have Daniel and the other PVT pros play at a lot of 1/2 tables with guys that way below par. They usually sit with guys in Bobby's room and we sit with guys in Egghead's room. That might be one reason why so many pros have problems dealing with total donks at the ME or other larger tournaments. Their playing against luckboxes that they haven't dealt with in years and we have to play against them everyday at the small limit tables. IMO
  19. This is only on tournament play so it might not apply at all so forgive me.I may be a little off here but the only time I have done that is if there were a few guys raised ahead of me after I checked and I am short stacked and decided when it got back to me I would go all in or re-raise. This gave me more chips to clean up if I hit the flop. If not, like Daniel says, there's always the next tournament.Probably not the situation you are talking about but I can see this as a more accepted check raise.

  20. If you have to ask, you might consider 2/4 limit or 1/2 nl. After finding yourself to be extremely successful, move up.You have to grade yourself carefully. I have no problem getting into a $500-$1,000 buy in tournament. As strange as it may sound, I have a problem moving above 10/20 nl and still find problems as low as the 1/3 tables.Good luck and I hope you're floppin' nutz.Paul

  21. Solid advice. As for the status of the table. I was second in chips. I had been in about 20% of the hands. I never saw a $10 bet get anyone out of the game if there were more than 3 people in the pot. The pot was $19 so I thought the 15 would get me 20 and if I hit it then great but if not the it was an easy fold. I knew that suited was only 3% better but the toughy hit with a flopped flush and strt for me. I was afraid to push on the flop because I didn't want to give anyone two shot to let their K or A hit. You pointed out my mane problem. I was already playing in a lot of pots and should have picked a better hand to steal on. Even a dry Ace might have been better there. Just a weak play. Thanks man. Forgive me but you'll probably get a few more of these before I catch on. I don't know why but I am not as patient in the cash games.
