  1. DN as I said too you last year you still seem to have troubles with donkfests. Not specifically referencing to the last hand. After watching lots of the Small ball video on PVT I'm wondering about SB's effectiveness against weaker players? When you are playing against people at a level where some of them are only playing their cards not thinking about what others have do you think small ball can be an effective strategy?
Dude, I know I am a million miles from being Daniel but I hope that you won't be upset if I tell you of an average players success story with small ball and the donks. If you can be true to the game and realize that skill will get you through 3/4 of a small 40-150 player tournament before luck goes above the 50% margin, sb will do great against donks. You just have to keep the testosterone level down and not let that idiot force you into a big pot when you still have enough that you can trap him later. (not much you can do when you flop trips though, sorry Daniel) There is nothing like laying down J-J pre-flop to an all in donk and then raising the limping donkey 2.5x with 5d-3d on the button with a flop that is Ad-2c-4s and the donk moves all in with Ax-8x! (Just don't let Annie Duke know that I told you to play the one gapper. She would kill me!) The problem I am seeing with the pros and small ball, so far, is that there are so many donks that just want to take home a story. They want to say "I knocked a champion out!" or "It took a champion to knock me out!". They will play anything anywhere and play the damn thing out! It's like they have K-J and the flop is 4-3-9 and the champ goes in for 2/3 the pot and the guy says, "You know, I have six outs to get a K or a J.", and then they do. And here sits the biggest donkey in the world thinking that I have a chance.
  2. Nice 2008 run Dan. GL on the upcoming WPT tour. HEY Paul, TID, The main event that is.
Thanks a lot! I hope I can keep my mind in the game with my Dad and all. (I know... excuses, excuses but his cancer really is on my mind)I just hope I don't let Daniel and everyone down after all the hype about my recent success. I hope I don't have a bad beat story to post until November!! :club: Any advice from former ME guys on what you do the day before the big one?
  3. Thanks for the advice. Believe me, every little bit helps along the way. Don't worry, I can get extremely aggressive if I have a strong read on a guy. In the second ME seat win, I called a player with only a pair of nines when there was a Queen and a Ten on the board. I just had a really good read on the player and nothing made since along the way. It was not a good story to make me believe the bluff with all the information I had gathered. It's kinda like my golf game. I have played since I was 12 and I'm not great but I'm not too bad. I see a lot of guys in tournaments that could take the sure tie and play another hole and they go for the long shot and drop out of the money because they just knew they could do it. They have enough talent to take the other guy out on another hole but their competitive juices (and testosterone) get to running and they go for the green instead of playing the safe shot and end up out of bounds. It's great to be competitive but you have to know where you should take your final stand. The chips are like an army. If you will still have enough soldiers to win a small battle, you might build your army so that you can win a war. I want to see the battlefield (the flop) and if I see that I trips (sorry Daniel) or flop a strait, then I know that I have a good view of the field and can charge in. It's true that sometimes you get ambushed though. (Sorry again Daniel) and you can't avoid it. You just have to make good dicisions and the only way you can is with as much information as possible. That means reading from situations that you have seen and that others have told you about. Not the idiots that have 5-6 say "I can't believe that idiot called me with a Kc-2h-3h-9h board and won with King (hearts) after I threw my chips in as fast as I could on the turn. HOW COULD HE NOT THINK I DIDN'T HAVE A FLUSH!!" (true story and the guy almost had to be removed from the room!)Ok, here goes the rambler! (Please go easy on me guys)I am far from being a really good player but I am improving and I beg anyone that has any advice to place it here. I am still learning this game. I am just saying this. Use your chips for information and profit. Learn to think things through completely and take your time on tough decisions. If we can all learn from each other, we will be more than prepared when the donkey plays all in with a gut shot. I am all for us improving every player we can to improve the game. I would rather play with someone that knows the game pretty good than someone that is a pure donk. Those are the guys that write your bad beat stories. Greg Raymer said that he has a lot of problems playing against guys that want to donk their chips off too him just because they would rather he have them than someone else and they really like him. He said that it really sucks when he knew they didn't have anything in the first place so he puts them all in with a bluff and their hand is better than his! You would not believe the number of people here that only play once a year to take back a story like going out to a world champion or playing with a guy that they saw on TV. These people have more money than sense. (And I say that while I am taking a chance against thousands of people and more than half of them could whip my tail any day of the week. Who's the donk now?!) I know, I know... here comes the bashing!!!! Go ahead an let me have it.-Daniels Little Fat Buddy :club:

  4. Is there still a 24 hour trial period available? I couldn't find it on the site.
I do know that if you stop by the booth you can get a card that will allow you 24 hours free. I am giving the cards out to the guys I knock out. Hopefully I'll get to pass one out :club: Seriously though, I will find out if they are going to put it up on the site somewhere or if you need the card with a pin.
  5. Thanks Anton,My Dad will go in Monday to have the tumor removed. Thank you so much for your concern. I talked to him last night and he is really pumped about Sunday and I hope I don't let him down. It's going to be hard to play and think about the next day and that I won't be there but he really wants me to go as far as I can. He's supported me my entire life in every crazy little thing I did. Please indulge me for a moment while I tell you his last battle and forgive me ahead of time for rambling here.My Dad is the strongest and bravest man I have ever known and he hates going to the doctor. He only missed one day in over 30 years on the job for being sick. He was a pipeliner and hated the work but loves his family and knew where his priorities were. I was in Branson trying to get on a show. I went there without a job or a place to live. I spent three of the coldest months without a heater and lived on noodles because I didn't want them to know that I was broke. I started as a parking lot attendant and parked cars (got hit by a couple) and cleaned up the lot every night for a year before I was put backstage working for Ray Stevens. When Ray left he sold the theater to Country Tonite, a show that was here in Vegas at the IP for several years. I was there only a couple of months when this guy saw me clowning around on stage between shows and said he wanted to put me on the show. My mom had come up for vacation and while she was here with my aunt I got a call. I could hear my mother crying in the background and my aunt said I needed to come over quick. I asked her if something had happened to my Dad and she said that she couldn't tell me and that I needed to be there for my mother. I thought he had died! She said he was not dead but that he was in ICU. We drove as fast as we could to Shreveport and I walked in and saw my Dad lying in bed. He could not move but could talk clearly to me. "Isn't this something boy?! I can't move a muscle!" He was smiling and laughed a little for me as though to tell me that he was alright and not to worry. My brother was with him when it started and he took him to the hospital. It started as his feet and was working its way up. My brother said that he woke up that night and saw my Dad crawling on the floor at the hospital. He jumped up and said "Daddy, what are you doing? Did you fall out of bed?!" My Dad said "No! I had to go pee and since I couldn't walk I thought I would crawl!" It turned out that he had Guillain Barre Syndrome. It paralyzes you and then works its way back down. He had to learn how to walk and even feed himself all over again. I was going to leave Branson and come back home to be with him. The doctors said that it would hurt him if I did because he would think it was his fault that I finally made it onto a show and was giving it up because he was sick. I reluctantly went back home at the urging of my mother and brothers and started as a feature on the show. That was in June of 1994. They said that he would not be able to walk again from a year to two years in the condition he was in. In December of that same year, I walked out onto the stage and saw my father sitting in the front row. He had to use a cain, but had walked into the theater. He is the strongest man I know. He still can't feel below his knees but they taught him to balance and walk though, and he walks without a cain now. I did leave Branson to come back home and be with them in their golden years but I have never regretted these years of being close to them after being away for so long. When I won the seat he wanted me to follow my dream and said that he didn't want me to stay home because of this "little thing". Can you believe that? He has got to be the most unselfish man around. I sang to millions of people, met my beautiful wife in Branson, and had a ton of fun in Branson and Nashville but nothing makes the tears come back and roll down this fatboys cheeks like the memory of may Dad's smile when I came out on stage and saw him sitting there.Man I hope I don't let him down.I have got to tell you that this has been one of the greatest experiences coming to the ME. I have met a ton of pros and my wife is having a ball watching me talk to these guys. She thinks it's kinda funny seeing me turn into a kid around these guys. I have been around big stars in the music industry and movie industry for years and I never show much sign of being nervous around them. I have only met a couple of jerks but most of them are excited that you recognize them. I saw Dario Minieri and he was so excited whenever someone recognized him and wanted a picture. He is truly a great guy for the game! He knows what this is all about. I know I have a better shot of making a fortune picking one number at a time on the wheel but it's amazing to sit side by side with these guys and catch a nugget here and there from conversations that may pay off ten fold. My advice to everyone is to sign up on pokervt, go to a poker camp, talk to as many pros that will allow you a moment, play in or at least go to some of these large events if you have the chance, and listen to all the bad beat stories you can. I know the last one is kinda strange but I have taken notes on the bad beats find that you can learned a lot from other peoples mistakes. Hearing those guys’ mistakes is like using other people’s money. I have found out that when I smell a bad beat coming at the table, I get out and watch the fireworks and take note of each step that lead up to the disaster.Make sure you go on my topic of "Main Event Numbers" and take a shot at the number of people in the ME and maybe you can get the three months free on pokervt.Write back on this post when and tell me of your success! I can't wait to hear from ya! Now I'll sit back and watch the guys tear this post apart for my "rambling". :club:

  6. THe prayer guy???? So is it PokerVT or the payer the reason he's made those final tables???? :club:
LOL dude! Since I don't pray to win I guess it's pokervt. Are you in the ME?The way this ME is going, I predict I will last 30 minutes in and catch quads against bigger quads. From the pros and friends I have talked to, this has been pretty sick. One thing I like to say though. I hope I have a bad beat story to tell and not a "I thought I could bluff him" story to tell, if I get canned.
  7. i hear her scream, from the down the hall. its amazing she can even talk at all. she cries to me, "go back to bed". im terrified that she'll wind up dead in his hands. shes just a womannever again.been there before, but not like this. seen it before, but not like this. never before have i seen it this bad. shes just a woman.never again.
Nice Nickelback quote. You should call yourself psychic. There's a drunk that lives about 3 houses down from me that is a total drunk. He beats his wife but she refuses to leave, even after a suicide attempt. I heard today that he shot at her and she unloaded a gun into him. Never again.
  8. LOL you need to thicken that skin bud i wasnt attacking you for rambling i actually enjoy your post's its nice to see a positive person on the forums and glad to hear that your having alot of success.just seen the vid with daniel and now we know your real not a joke acount stick around this is a cool site . gl on sunday
Thanks Mase. Just been a little frustrating for my first poker forum I guess. I just wish that I had spit the gum out but they called me after I had just sat down with garlic bread and I rushed down to do the shoot. This little fat guy was out of breath, and we started the second I got there.I felt a little bad because I told him there was one thing I wanted to get a little advice on but I didn't want to ask him now. I was knocked out of two of the 15 when I flopped trips but I know that now is not the time to ask. It's been a tough tournament for most of these guys. My friend left tonight after loosing AA with a A-10-5-10-5 board to 55. Then he put the rest in with two black aces and the limper had AA also but caught a flush on the river. I have to tell you that I have lost a lot of my excitement after seeing all these guys dropping like flies. I have been playing for a very short time and really only learned the game in the last couple of months. The problem is, there are a ton of idiots out there that are playing with trash and catching.I'll tell ya what. I will give the guy that post the closest number of players in the ME three months free on Pokervt. The number has to be in, of course, before the final number is released. The number must be posted here by midnight Saturday night. You get one shot and one winner so make it count. I'm going to edit the original post to include this offer. Thanks again Mase and I hope my rambling doesn't get on the guys nerves too much.
  9. jopke acount i still havent got my read on or a new guy who likes to ramble in his topics either is fine :club: gl in the me and give em hell .
All right guys. I was asked by one of the forum guys to post the numbers of the main event for you since I was here. And no, the prayer thing did go ever very well. We had about 70-80 guys meet and it was kinda cool.I just thought you might want to know that they are expecting from 5500-7000 and so far they are averaging the lower numbers. Forgive me for my "rambling", I don't usually post crap online and thought this was a pretty cool site to discuss stuff but apparently I was mistaken.
  10. Well, I was one of the last to get into Sundays tourney. They aren't going to release anymore seats until they even out a little more. I was around 1310, I think and Friday had about 850 by late afternoon and the guy said they had a little over 1300 for Thursday. I'll tell ya what. I will give the guy that post the closest number of players in the ME three months free on Pokervt. The number has to be in, of course, before the final number is released. The number must be posted here by midnight Saturday night. You get one shot and on winner so make it count. I am dumb to the rules so if I can't give something like this then I will pick something up here at the expo and send it to ya. I promise that I do not get one single penny at this moment from Pokervt. I just like the site and would rather play against a someone that knows what they're doing instead of someone like I was about 3 months ago.I am not winning much but a little sng but had some great badbeats. You know, I guess I have to look at it like this. If I tell a badbeat story when I finish a tourney, at least I was playing good poker. You always hear stories like my Mega $550 today where a guy called my allin with only a $200 cover, with 44 and I had KK and he flopped a 4. At least I can say I was playing good poker. You don't hear too many people say, "You aren't going to believe this! I had 10x-3x and raised in position and some donkey called me with K-K! Can you believe that crap?!" Anyway, the ME is great and the expo was pretty good but I hate that we have to walk through it everytime to enter or exit. This place is nickling and diming us to death! I am surprised I don't have to pay to pee! OOPS!!!! Maybe I shouldn't have posted that.Good luck guys. Hang in there! (At least until I have you at my table!)

  11. Well, I changed my ME day to Sunday. They are not taking anymore Sunday spots. When I got in there were a little over 1300. They are averaging everything out.Pretty cool day today. Sat and talked to Alex Outhred for a while. He has a great article in All In you should read about tells. Then I ran into Devilfish. He had quite a badbeat story. Then I met with the guys at Pokervt. What a great bunch of fellas. They are working their butts off on the site and I think they are going to be making some more great improvements soon. I'll hopefully get to talk to Daniel on Saturday. As most of you know, he changed his day to Friday because schedule change and I, like the idiot I am, changed mine to Sunday in hopes that I could do a little more work on the game. I had a couple of bad beats in the two megas I played. The first mega had 297 people and I finished somewhere around 75. I had queens on the button with an allin in the 4th position preflop. I called and he showed Ad 4d. As you can expect, he turned an Ace and rivered the flush. The second was a $550 mega with 380 in it and I finished somewhere around 150. I was slowly building a nice chipstack when the guy under the gun raised 3x and I was on the button again with KK this time and went all in since my raise would have only been 2x. He called with 44 and hit a 4 on the flop and had be covered by about 500. Oh well, like I always say, if you don't have a badbeat story to tell after the last hand is played you weren't playing good poker. The sit and go I played lasted 3.5 hours! We started with 1500 and I was third and the guy would not chop for 1k each but oh well. I played well but you can't do much when you go card dead and the blinds are 600-1200! The dealer said it was the longest s n g that she has ever dealt. My Dad is doing great! He is one tough old bird.

  12. Hey guys. The Academy is going pretty well. My friend Justin and I sat up on Sunday night and I showed him PVT site. He got the small ball concept down pretty well and went on to win $5,000 worth of chips in the Academy tournament!I, on the other hand, couldn't get paid off for my Kings and such and went totally card dead. After a few hours I was sitting the rail rooting for Justin. The Academy is great and I really recommend it! Mark Seif, Annie Duke and Joe Navarro did a great job today of training us poker wannabes! Alex Outhred and Paul Wasicka gave me some of the greatest pointers for the ME you can find. For one thing, I know I have been doing great in small tournaments, but in the large ones I have been sucking. I need to settle down and only play the small pots for a while and not risk my entire tournament for $4000 when I will need the larger pots of $20,000 and $200,000 later on. Be patient. Well, I really need to get some sleep and prepare for tomorrow. I saw poor Daniel at the Horse and the guy was giving it all he had. I am glad for Scotty though. He is a great player and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in this ego filled poker world. At least a real player won it and not some hack like me. It really is more of a game for the real champions and not for the everyday Joe to pull in.

  13. Man, he was doing great. Enjoying a nice rub down and looked pretty relaxed. My wife and I were watching him and he was pretty confident. My wife took some great shots of him when there were 16 left. I'll see if she can download a few and I'll get them on if I can.He needed a 3rd and I think Erik and Barry needed a 6th and 7th for POY. I think Scotty may take it down though. He is concentrating hard on this event and has take some good pots.Good Luck in the ME Daniel. You played your heart out!

  14. Well what a trip! We started off and were five hours out and hit a cow! That's right, a cow!It was pitch black and we were just about to the hotel and we hit this black cow. I turned the wheel just in time, I only had a fraction of a second cause the thing just appeared, and it took out my left side. I can't believe it was able to drive after that but we still drove the thing to Vegas.Saw Daniel, Doyle, Phil, Huck, Barry, Erik, and several others playing HORSE. Daniel was doing great but after my wife and I left, he got into a bad hand and was crippled. He later went out 13th, I think. Looks pretty good for Scotty and Erik. You can never count out Barry either. That hurt Daniels chances, since he needed a 3rd and the other two only needed a 6th or 7th. My wife got some great pictures of Daniel. What a great opportunity it was. You don't get many shots with Doyle, Barry, and Phil sitting next to each other in a tournament. What a trip. Vegas has sure changed since I was here as a lad in the early 90's. Twenty years make a huge difference. I'll go to the academy in the morning and decide later if I'll get into the ME or not. My Dad is doing great but we'll know more in a couple of weeks. He really wanted us to go to the ME but I don't see how I could ever stand a chance against that many people. It is very scary to see that many tables and huge lines of guys wanting to get into a Satelite. Thanks again guys for all your thoughts and prayers for my Dad. I'll let yall know how things turn out, and if I get into the ME.Paul

  15. in fact that was my first post.
Hey Scallop! I am honored that you chose mine to be the first you posted to! You will not regret signing up. Matt and the guys are great. They are having a few glitches every now and then but that is to be expected with new startup with this much video on it. One suggestion. Even though you aren't a new player, you need to check out the beginner section. This game is all about fundementals. It's just a like a football player or a golfer (Daniel). You are always taught to keep the fundementals fresh in your mind and you'll score big.I had a friend that I respect as one of the best poker players around come up to me last night, grab my hand and started rubbing it sayint "I have got to rub some of that luck off for me!! Just kiddin man. With this many final tables, it is not all about luck! That's great to see players like that come up and commend my play. I never thought that would happen. I listen to the Daniel before every game. I hope the guys don't get on me for spamming again but I also recommend "The Psychology of Poker" and "Tournament Poker" by David Sklansky, if you like to read. Good luck man! I hope to see you at the ME one day.Paul
  16. Man I can't tell you how much it means for everyone's support. My Dad is doing great. He's just ready to get the sugery over with and get back to his garden.I went to the El Dorado tonight and placed 6th. We only had 52 players but it's still 14 tourneys and 11 final tables with 7 wins so I can's complain. I wish I could do as well in the large tournaments but I suck in those. Maybe the acadameny will help, if I go. The ME is a once in a lifetime thing for me but you only have one Dad, and family means more to me than winning it. Though I know a few in the family I might sacrifice for a couple of wins! Seriously though guys, it's great to have your support and prayers. I'll know later this week if I am going or not and if I'll play in the ME. I may at least go the the Academy but I don't know if I'll stay for the ME. What would be my chances anyway?!I'll keep in touch and thanks again.Paul

  17. Thanks Jam,I won a small $175 Freezout on Monday. That made 7 wins in 2 1/2 weeks. The system worked very well but tonight I shouldn't have gone.I had terrible news about my Dad. He has a tumor that has to be removed from his lip and it was cancer. He should do fine but when you hear th C-word it kinda takes it out of you. He has a 95% survival rate so it's very little chance of being bad, but that 5% can tear at ya.Everyone wanted me to go to the tourney tonight and get my mind off things. My wife and I moved down here to take care of them in their golden years. I have the number one wife in the world. Anyway, I shouldn't have gone. I played the worst poker of my life. I made a move at a pot and when I was called, I tried to steal a flop of A-5-Q, turn J, and river Q and made a wild bet each time until he went all in on the river. Took my last 1600 to another table and was not patient at all. There were 5 limpers before me, and I was on the button with Q-J off. I called the 200. There were 8 of us on the flop of 9-4-3 and everyone checked so I went all in. One guy called with A-Q and the Ace held up. I took my $175 and went all in with A-K with 4 callers and got a strt on the river. I should have been patient with my bounty but was the big blind with A-Q and the flop was 10-10-10 and the small blind raised and I went all in. He had 7-7. What a dumb lot of hands I played!!! I never once looked at anyone's chips. I played Jh-9h under the gun, Q-10 off, in early position, Kd-5d after a raise.... my mind was nowhere near the game! If I play like that this weekend at the Acadamy, I don't think I can waste the seat at the ME! I am thinking about canceling the trip but everyone said that it would make my Dad feel like a burden and he doesn't need any stress. He has a very poor imune system so we need to keep his spirits up.I have no chance of winning anything in the ME anyway. I don't know what my arrogant ego is thinking of going to the dang thing anyway. Anyway, thanks Jam for the kind words. Posting here is keeping my mind off things.
