I know what you're saying, but as Laker fans we're spoiled with centers. There's like 25 teams that would love to have Bynum.

If Bynum says he'll sign a 5-yr extension right now, but Dwight says he's going to FA, you can't do that trade. If they're both going FA, then do it.

But if they get Dwight and he leaves after this year when they could have re-signed Bynum, what would you rather have?

Lets say the Lakers sign Grant Hill and do Bynum for Howard. With a lineup of Nash, Kobe, Hill, Pau, Dwight, that's an 80's pre-expansion starting 5...where does that rank all-time? On paper.

For the Lakers to do Bynum for Howard, they have to know that Bynum is going to explore free agency, or Dwight signs an extension. In my opinion, if Orlando gets Bynum to sign an extension, but Dwight won't do it, the Lakers need more back from the Magic to get it done.
