  1. Harrington writes about "M". Your "M" is the size of your chip stack in realtion to the blinds and antes. For example. Late in a tourney,10 handed Blinds are 1000-2000 with a $200 ante. When you add th BB, SB and ante of all 10 players you get $5000. (SB=$1000, BB=$2000, 10Xante of $200= $2000)IF you have a chip stack of $15000, divide it by our magic number ($5000) then you will get your "M" wich is totaled to 3. You should make a stand with your money when your "M" is creeping bellow 4 or 5. Also it's best to put it in, in a later position when you have a weaker holding. Imagine you are short stacked under the gun. You want to make a move and look down at your hand and see something like K-Js. This looks like a fine gambleing hand. But you don't know how the action is going to go and you may still have to fold that in such an early spot. If you had the same hand on the button and got to watch the action go something like: First pos raises, secon pos re-raises and third pos goes all-in, then K-Js is an easy fold. Under the gun you don't get the luxury of having all that information.
Is this copied right out of a book? Fold KJs short stacked utg? KJs is likely a far better hand than u would see with your blind hand. DO NOT be blinded off as u pass with KJs. Go out of the tourney trying to double up, control your own destiny!!
  2. Hey all,I have been building decent stacks in tournaments and getting fairly deep. I also get within about 30-50 of the money and my stack is dwindling. Im now below average stack and need to find a spot to double up. I am not going to fold into the money, I am still trying to win these tournaments. When is the right time to push?? Is 10x BB the number? Also, what hands? I pushed with 910s which I now think was a horrible idea, because it needs to improve to win. Is any ace or king good in these spots? Also, being first in is a plus if I have weaker holdings. So my question is, does anyone have a system they use late in tournies when they are short?
my system is Raise and Pray (feel free to use it as often as u like)try trying to win one hand per round. 910s is not a bad hand to push if you are first in and good position. 10x BB is too early to push all in with mediocre hands. 5 or 6x BB is better. And develop your own hands to push with. I will say this though: i prefer 910s to king rag.
  3. even if jamie gold gave up half the 12 million..wouldnt he make it back in endorsements?
exactly, this is why he should make good on his promises. If I just won, and I owed people a piece of the pie, I would throw the cash to them on national television.Any publicity is said to be good publicity, so there's a chance Gold will come clean. Endorsements are plentiful right now. (Hachem even has beer commercials)
  4. Who said my pocket pair was little? All I said was that it was a pair smaller than aces, with an ace on the flop. KK is a little pair now? It doesn't matter whether I have 22 or KK, if my opponent hit their ace I can't win.
I see no where in you topic about pair smaller than aces. And it matters if u got KK or 22. First of all, with a flop of A-J-2 as u posted, pocket kings could beat random hands with a jack in it. And obviously 22 would be a set. I stated in my first response about just calling the flop and turn and looking him up on the river. By your big raise pre-flop, ur committed to the hand to continue with his min bets
Mr. Wakefield I feel your pain. However, I have seen this scenario many times. I offer u this: Never fold on the flop. Instead, cold call and see what he does on the turn. You have the position, so use it. His action on the turn hopefully will give u some needed information. Plus, ur getting enough odds to maybe peel of your set card. If he bets more or moves all in, folding is a solid play. If he checks, u may wanna move in. If he bets minimum again on turn, a flat call here on the turn is perhaps the play. At this point, and the size of the pot, u may wanna just look him up for future reference.
Here is my first post, which a few people have basically said the same thing.
I could HAVE said THAT better, though.
So this is your brilliant contribution? WOW. nh, gg, kma, wtgty Hooter, now i feel complete.
  5. I think depending on the player that made that many bet, in this exact situation most of the time I call this bet and see what happens on the turn.Strangely enough, they will continue making these mini bets thru the river and I will just continue to call, never getting too committed but having enough showdown value to make these small calls. It seems like most of the time they do this with a small pp and you will win the pot.HOHII describes this scenario very well and why it's such a bad play for them, which in turn benefits you.
couldnt of said it better myself.... :club:
  6. Well if he's offering me something ridiculous like 10/1 I'll call and try and make a set, then he minbets the turn and the river and sucks 3 BB out of me. Or I'll push when he minbets the turn and he'll call with his weak ace.
You put yourself in this situation by raising so much with your little pocket pair. Perhaps consider different pre-flop play and keep out of tricky situations when it's not called for.
  7. I've run into this a few times lately: the situation is where I raise it up with a pair in late position after 1 or 2 limpers. For this example let's say blinds 300-600, I have 13K, limpers have me covered. I pop it to 4000, first limper calls, everybody else folds. Flop comes AJ2 rainbow. Limper leads out for 600. WTF?????? Can I fold? Wouldn't an informational raise commit me? If I push I think I'm getting called by any ace, and why would this guy lead out if he doesn't have an ace? Can I fold my pair when somebody leads out for like 8% of the pot????

  8. yeah, I mean, who has time to respond every 2 minutes.we have a life you know.
yeah right. Theres some free time between party poker hands as long as you are not playing 10 tables at once and flipping around on the tube.
I'm not sure what difference it makes if it was a week or an hour between posts. It still is what it is. Just my observation.
Two words for ya: grain, salt
  9. If you want to be a succesfull tournament player, my advice is to read:Harrington on Hold'Em 1, 2, and 3.- Zach
I played with Harrington at the Legends in 2004 for about 8 hours at our tournament table. It was amazing how nobody wanted to get in a hand with him(and thats not just because he plays tight) me included......his books should be a good read.
  10. I just recently heard about rakeback through FCP. Glad I joined. Is it possible to get rb if already a member? Same question on FT?How does Doyles Room compare? I am comfortable there and know the tables pretty well.
Ok, so I guess FT stands for Fred Taylor at rb (running back). I do not recommend him, he is a bit fragile. Whooooaaaa, just noticed this is a strategy forum. Srry.......
  11. Why bother explaining this to you, someone who just wants to argue, when he's already linked to a thread answering the definition of fold equity? No need to explain it twice. :D
I thought arguing was the highest form of debating. And, besides, if you read all posts carefully, it seems the ones that are accusing me of arguing are guilty of arguing themselves. Just for sake of argument........ :D
Again, u offer no expertise of your own.
just another observation: I believe I posted this on Saturday, and you add reply on Thursday? (Loopie < tryin to restrain himself)alot can happen in almost a week's timeand u pick my post, u tryin to start an argument sir? :club:
  12. Home Game .05/.10 NLHE (4-handed)Cobalt $3.25BB $4.50Button $5Cobalt is SB w/ A :club: 8 :D. Button is a competent LAG. BB is fairly straight-forward. He's decently aggressive, but he'll back off if he encounters resistance. He hasn't pulled this min-raise line this session, but I know that he's capable of doing it with a range of hands. I've been playing fairly TAG.Pre-flop:1 fold, Button calls, Cobalt calls, BB raises to $.20, Button calls, Cobalt callsFlop ($.60): T :) 8 :) 4 :D (3 players)Cobalt checks, BB bets $.30, 1 fold, Cobalt callsTurn ($1.20): Q :D (2 players)Cobalt checks, BB checksRiver ($1.20): 3 :) (2 players)Cobalt checks, BB bets $.30, Cobalt foldsWhile I'm pondering the river call, BB remarks, "I'm just trying to steal some pots."I considered raising pre-flop, but I was decently sure that my opponents would call a reasonable raise, and I'd be stuck out of position. As for the flop, I'm checking to see what the BB will do, but I'm reasonably sure I have the best hand. I don't think a check-raise would be unreasonable in that spot, but again, I think I can get away with just calling and seeing what he'll do on the turn (he'd likely check without a pair).
so I guess 50 cents isnt taken out of every pot for a pizza fund?
  13. To be honest I didnt see that he was so low in chips until he bet the river. This may be because I always play limit holdem so the chip stacks normally dont matter too much.If I got disconnected on Stars I think it would treat me as allin. I think anyways. So that would be fine with me.I dont think the amount of critical thinking is unnessecry either for these low of stakes. The thinking is adjusted for the caliber of player found here.
Well, a common mistake I see players make is putting an opponent on a straight steal or a bluff raise. The flaw in this thinking is that many players are incapable of making such a play. My question for u is how do u adjust your thinking for player caliber? And unless u play with the same online players daily and have a book on them, it is difficult to get a read on any player. Especially with all the internet variables.
  14. I love fantasy football and have recently got involved in fantasy poker. I played during the WSOP and enjoyed it. This Fantasy Page has free fantasy poker throughout the 2006 year and offers free prizes. Last year, I participated in 9 fantasy football leagues and it got out of control. Hopefully this year I can reduce my fantasy frenzy.....I
OK Im in. I want my i-Pod so u better come thru pooper scooper. My team has DN leading the way.
  15. I found that the rake in limit between 5-10 and 10-20 is very annoying. since the avg. pot in 5-10 for me is about $54 those hands will be raked on avg. $2and in 10-20 the avg. pot is about $104 the rake vill be on avg. $3 so basically your rake is 50% higher in 10-20 games. hopefully I should win more longterm anyway in 10-20.
just be thankful u are not paying 4 dollar rake and 1 dollar for the jackpot (that u may never hit in ur lifetime) and a dollar or two to the dealer every winning hand.if online poker ever vanishes, just think of all the 10 and 20 dollar pots with 3 dollars taken from them. this is what u have to look forward to
  16. I left that out because my analysis is so advanced I presumed we all understood the relative pos dictated a lead here, while in your scenario, a c/r is solidbut in both cases I'd do the reverse if our hand was stronger or draw weaker (or pot bigger perhaps). That is if we needed more protection and could win a higher percentage of times w/o improvingSay, we had JJ here.
I see your points. But sometimes I like to go with the KISS method especially if you're multi-tabling. I've lost many bets in my time tryin to get extra bets.
  17. hmmm....porn and an impromptu trip to the bathroom is an obvious answer......how bout playing basketball, tennis, or any sport you want for couple of hours. take a nice hot shower or bath. have a good meal. then set down at the computer, casino, or home game and tear it up.
