  1. Just make the 50k HORSE event the true "Main Event" and make the current 10k main event the "NL Holdem World Championship"Freddy Deed is the true World Champion of Poker this year, not Jerry Yang. I dont agree with there being a "World Champion of Poker" crowned when all they did was win a NL Holdem tourney...which is 1 form of poker only.Yes, the appeal of the main event is that they can put down 10k and play with the best and potentially beat the best. Do you think those same people could do the same thing in HORSE? Not likely. I know a lot of people will say "But most people cant afford 50k." I know this. Hell, I cant afford 50k to play HORSE. I still want to see the 50k HORSE event the main event however. At least then I can look at the winner and go "Ok, that man can play poker" instead of going "Ya, he won a NL Holdem" tournament. Im wired a little different however. NL Holdem players do not impress me as a general rule. NL Holdem players that can play most or all the other games well and consistently.....THOSE I respect. Phil Ivey impressed me more at the Series than Yang did. Phil only cashed 2 times...both final tables. 3rd in a HORSE event and 2nd in the 5k Stud event if I remember correctly.

  2. Ok. My argument looked a little weak so I guess Ill state a little more why. These are some of my beefs1. Stud events reduced from 3 to 2. 2. Stud 8 events reduced from 3 to 2. This really irked me. Eliminated the 2k and 1k and made a 1500 Stud 8 and a 5k stud 8. This one really irks me. I love this game and finally there was more than 1 event. I personally played in 2 out the 3 last year. In fact the 1k event is the only reason I stayed the last few days of my trip. 3. Limit Holdem events reduced from 5 to 4. I dont count the mixed holdem events in this. Also what is up with the first Limit event being event 12??? It was event 4 two years ago and event 6 last years. This and the Stud8 irk me. In part its due to the fact I cashed in the 1500 LHE In 2006 and 2007 so the event is one I look forward to. 4. Omaha Hi Lo reduced from 4 to 3. 5. SHOE eliminated. 1 year and done eh? The 10k mixed event is fine...but there are no other buyins at that. Yet Lowball remains with 2 events. I honestly dont know what to say about the plethora of 10k events. You want more 10k, fine. Dont screw with the rest tho. Ill be interested to see the turnout on those.

  3. I agree with that too. I didnt see that they were going to do that with the HORSE trophy until after I made this post. However, the 50k HORSE event isnt part of what I didnt like. Things like doing away with SHOE and the 1k Stud 8 event just irk me. I dont know if any of you were at the series etc but the mixed events were like playing in an All Star event every time just about. It was a blast, even if I had to play in the tent quite a bit. I like the fact that I had to skip events due to having to focus where Im good. I had to skip the Daniel Invitational because the 1500 Limit was the next day. (Good choice too as I cashed) Im probably just too picky but honestly if I go, ill probably end up at one of the other concurrent events a lot more like I did last year. Binions had a great event with most of the games at the WSOP at 1/10 th the buyin and with very strong fields, both numbers and player wise. I realize that Harrahs wants to make all the money they can and thats likely what fueled it. Its just a disappointing schedule to me after last years excellent run.

  4. Daniel (or anyone that knows)How much input did you guys have in this years schedule. After last years schedule, I was looking forward to another outstanding year. This schedule in some ways is a step back in my opinion. Did you all have less input? To me last years schedule looked like the players council put it together and this years schedule looks more like it was monkeyed with by Harrahs. If I am wrong please feel free to correct me but overall Im disappointed. I will say that I like the Mixed event, although I would have liked to see a smaller buyin version. I do like that there is a $1500 HORSE this time. Otherwise overall the schedule to me looks like a step back.Any opinions are welcome and encouraged.

  5. The vibe I get from that isnt good. I hope everything is alright with John. He is a very interesting player and person in general. Reminded me a lot of my grandfather and I am not meaning age, but more of personality.

  6. Daniel or anyone else that was at the Wsop and can answer,Was John at the series this year? I had the opportunity to play a couple tournaments last year with him and really enjoyed playing with him. I saw him at last years WSOP but didnt see him around any this year. Did he attend this years series? I dont see any mentions of him in blogs etc and as anyone that knows anything about John knows, at some point he will make himself known either by his play or antics. However, some of the reporting by certain organizations (not naming any names but Pokernews would be the initials of one) didnt exactly come across as being exactly knowlegable about who some of the named players were.....

  7. I played last year in 4 WSOP events, 2 limit, 1 stud, and one Omaha 8 event. I thought the chips were a little light but the blinds in the flop games started at 25, 25 and so it balanced out to me. I saw that there was going to be double chips this year and I was like "Sweet" when I saw the announcement. I then saw the structures and was like "Well that sucks" In comparison there is really no difference in the structures in this year and last year. If this is their idea of more play, I say go back to the way it has been. This is no better. If the structures were left alone and more chips added, then it would have been great. The circuit events have better structures to be honest. At least the NL and Omaha events I have played.

  8. I have been playing low limit cash games now for a few months and do ok at the 2-4 and 3-6 level depending on the game. Right now I only play LIMIT games as I really dont like the swings in NL in regards to cash. In the sessions I win I cash out on average with decent hours rate in limit and at least double my buy in when I play omaha Hi Lo. Except for a couple of exceptions, when I have losing sessions I usually dont lose a heck of a lot. In most cases not even my buy in. Now I have heard when you have built up your bankroll or are consistently beating the games your playing you can try and move up. First off when they say "Beating the game", what are we really meaning here. Second, do you truly need to build a bankroll to move up. I could financially afford to move up to 5-10 in any of my games. Should I bite the bullet and give it a try or do I need to stay where I am at a while. For those asking "what about 4-8", thats not offered at the places I play. It jumps from 3-6 to 5-10. Thanks for any advice given.

  9. This book is great for Limit Holdem tourneys. Low level cash games....this book is next to useless in most games in my opinion. I hope to run across the people that play stud hi lo according to this book. While it it ok....I think it makes stud hi lo players too loose in some aspects, too tight in others.

  10. I am with you on the "electronic card shuffler" theory. Played blackjack in a casino on a cruise last year, (ugh, don't EVEN get me started on THAT whole conspiracy theory) and my situation at the table sounds very similar to yours. With today's technology I wouldn't put it past the casino's!GREAT post ABond007! Thanks so much for all the info on Hollywood's hotel! I wonder if any players from WPT will still be in Tunica by Saturday??
Seriously doubt it. There is another WPT event in AC starting soon. The preliminary events are running now. I just got back from up there playing in one of them.
  11. Daniel or anyone, is this for a limit DS, or just a limit hold'em event. Sadly there is no no limit in the Santa Clara area and most of the tournaments are limit. This looks to be good advice. Can anyone comment on this?
DUDE!! Where is this place at that has Limit tourneys only? Tell me and Ill make a special trip sometime. The strategy was supposed to be for Limit Holdem tourneys btw.
  12. The Grand "used to" have good video poker last year. This year when I went back, they didnt have much to choose from. Made a couple of hundred last January there. September I made about 60. This time I didnt even play due to lack of decent machines. The gold strike had a nice selection. I mostly stick to 9 6 to 10 8 machines myself. I made about 300 bucks on the Jacks or Better machines. Im more of a consistent winner person as opposed to the one big hit type. The Hollywood poker room isnt much to speak of. Not much action. Ive only every seen 2 tables going at one time max. Usually a 1-2 NL and a 3-6 Limit. (That was a wild game) Its a nice room however. I cant give you any info on the hotel tho, as I normally stay at the Grand.

  13. Daniel,I decided to try and apply as much of your strategy as I could with the limit event I played. It was very similar to the way I used to play and going back to it wasnt that tought, I just needed to do it. Well suffice it to say that during the first 4 levels I didnt have a lot of battles and I was a little above where I started. No biggie, as that seemed to be the norm for this tourney. The couple of levels before the dinner break were very tellling however to the makeup of my table. Every blind steal was met with either a raise or 2 or more calls, and a lot of times with people playing horrible holdings. Such holdings also ended up killing some really good hands. At the dinner break I was down to 2700 chips. Come back from break. Pocket A's, Pocket J's, Pocket 6's, AJ and AK....and all hands were paid off. I doubled up with the A's and I won a 4 way pot with the 6's when it was 3 bet on a board of 10, J, 2, 6, 7. By the next break I was at 24k and in good shape. Sadly that was my high point by my 4th table move, one bad beat, and little success in stealing, we are at 28 players with 27 paid. It took over an hour after that point to reach the bubble...which was me. If anyone was at the Borgata tonight they know all about that last hour. If you werent, ask around to anyone that played the event. Suffice it to say, I had one 500 chip at the 3000 6000 level....and make it 25 minutes into the 4000 8000 level and took a 1 outer to get knocked out 28th.Anyway, Daniel thanks for the advice. Even tho I didnt make the money, its still my best limit holdem finish since Event 4 of the series. If nothing else, I needed it for a confidence boost. Good luck on the rest of your tunica trip. If you can tolerate it, there is a Subway in an exxon about a mile from the Gold Strike. Otherwise, good luck on actually finding some healthy food down there.

  14. Before the I-69 cut-through that opened about six months ago, that's exactly what you drove through to get from Memphis to Tunica. Not from casino to casino, but to get there, you go through some very iffy areas in Memphis.
I know what you mean. I still take the old route as the directions for the new route put me in Arkansas...so apparantly I had some bad directions.
  15. I just got back from Tunica. I will not eat at the Grand's buffet. The poker chips are tastier...Seriously tho, the Grands buffet is pretty bad. It would be nice if the comp ticket was for ANYWHERE other than the buffet. Then again....Replays probably doesnt want 100 customers during dinner breaks :-) A lot of trips to Subway. (There is a 24 hour Exxon / Subway near Gold Strike for those wanting something other than burgers and buffets) The poker player buffet at the Gold Strike was......passable.....if you like noodles.....and hard bread..... Very cramped....oh and you have to hunt down a poker host for a ticket as they dont give them out at registration.

  16. Tunica is no more a dump than AC is. The only difference is that there are more places to eat and a little more to do in AC. At least you dont feel like your driving through a ghetto to get to a casino in Tunica. Ive actually had people not go to certain bathrooms after midnight at the Taj because they were afraid to be mugged. I would much rather play in Tunica over AC but its twice as far to drive. Maybe some decade they will get poker legalized in NC.
