  1. fold is worst. no huge difference btw 3x raise and limp, as long as you know how to use that image.
A fold is great. Bolded part is just bad. There is definitely a huge difference between raising and limping. fold > raise >>> limpLimping here shouldn't be an option
  2. Folds to cut off who shoves for 695...you are in the sb for 100 and you have 3100 behind and you have AJ? Are you advocating a fold here giving the cutoff a 500 chip pot including antes? I think that is a mistake.
It depends on the other stacks. It could be a clear fold in some cases, and a marginal call in others. Yes, somebody has to eliminate them, but it doesn't have to be you.You have to remember that in DONs especially, the chips you gain are worth less than the chips you have. This sentence is always always always going to be true when you have a large stack in these.
  3. how is amassing chips not part of the goal. yes u are trying to outlast people, but if u play super tight the chips may disperse evenly among the table and all of a sudden ur just an average stack. If u have a large chip lead u can obviously take a risk or 2 and if it fails u can slow down. My method has worked for me to perfection. I have cashed in every DoN ive played so far and u cant disagree with results.
But if you have a large chip lead the chips that you are trying to win are just about worthless. The chips you lose have a much higher value. We either gain nothing or lose a chunk of our equity. Neither of those excite me too much.
  4. i actually like to play these DoN's also. My strategy when i get a little bit ahead is play pretty tight. Especially when it is down to 7 or 6 people and u are sitting like 3rd or 4th in chips, but if i have a larger stack, lets say around 4000 or more, i play a little more agressive vs. the medium stacks. I think they will fold alot because there are generally 1 or 2 stacks shorter than them and they dont want to risk it if they are not the short stack. This strat seems to be working well for me so far, but im sure there are plenty of good/better strategies out there.
I think you really have to know your opponents if you are going to try this. They have to be good enough to realize that you need a big hand to be risking a significant portion of your stack.edit: I don't mean to sound rude, but I actually really hate this whole idea. The chips we gain after our stack reaches a certain point become almost worthless compared to the chips that we already have in our stack. If we amass a large stack, we NEED to be playing super tight, because the risk/reward isn't there. If the chips we gain are worthless, and the chips we may lose makes our equity fragile, there really isn't a reason to be playing pots, even with some of the strongest hands. Everything depends on our chip stack, and the stacks around the table in relation to each other.
  5. you are actually giving tons of equity to the rest of the table if you call here. you have a top two spot effectively locked up, taking that equity off the table. the only way you give it back is by starting to make calls like this.
QFT. In fact, we could probably sit out and lock up a win a high percentage of the time.
  6. He had the average stack calling is not so bad.
This term is pretty meaningless. The only thing that really matters is how big our stack is in relation to the blinds. If this is a STT, which it looks like it might be, our stack in relation to other stack becomes more important. As said before, CRAI should be our best play here.
  7. Typically, bb stands for big blind and BB stands for big bet. If you're asking about NL, you can usually just assume we're talking about blinds. I would recommend buying in for 100bb ($2) as it allows for postflop play so that you can develop your game. Playing with a 20bb stack means all of your money is usually going in preflop or on the flop.------------------------------------------The reason I remember for limping in with KK was table play. Anyone that raised didn't get any callers cause they all folded. I was trying to get value and it backfired.OK, here's where we have to start making adjustments. If the table is folding to open raises too much, what should our automatic adjustment be?Raise more hands from late position. If we often just steal the blinds with an open raise, open up your range. Honestly, at these stakes though, you should just find a new table. There should be a bunch of super soft tables and we will make more money by exploiting the passive players than the nits.

  8. not trying to rain on your parade but maybe , just maybe , you are one of the players that is destined to be the loser.
This is just ridiculous. You aren't destined to be anything. You can always take actions toward a change and OP has started this by making this post. ----------------------------------------------gpineo, just by looking at the first hand from that file I can tell that you have some serious fundamental flaws in your game. Just off the top of my head right nowEither buy in for more than 20-25bb or learn how to shortstackMinraising preflop is usually pretty bad. Especially with KK with a limper in front. We need to get value from our big hands, so let's build a pot nowYou are playing too many poor handsTry isolating limpers instead of limping behindAs pokerinc said, try reading the NL forum and if you have a questions regarding anything in the thread, ask. A lot of the guys here are really smart and don't mind helping others out.
  9. That's not a stupid question. I don't use poker tracker cuz I'm too dumb to figure it out. I've had it on 2 different computers, but I don't know how to make it work. I offered to pay a poker friend $100 to come over, set it up, and give me a quick lesson, but he moved. So, I'm giving up a lot when I play. I play 6 limit games and I swear all my decent competitors probably use it.Helps me please. I don't even know what a HUD is.
Do you have PT 2 or 3?
  10. I just got DNs Power Hold'em Strategy book and read the Small Ball chapter. Although I was familiar with most of the concepts I hadn't tried it in cash games.Let me just say that DN owes me $100 :)All the small pots I won didnt nearly cover the big pots that I lost, most money I lost trying to draw cheap to straights/flushes that never got there. Also, for example managed to loose a big pot with KK on a Q66 when I checked trying to induce a bluff (following the reasoning that either I'm beat or way ahead) only to loose to a guy that hit a set when he took a free card. What kind of player were you trying to induce bluffs from?My point is, I wasn't even close to making a profit despite playing by "the book".How many hands did you play? If it only a couple thousand then your sample is pretty meaningless, isn't it?
  11. How did webbi double up? I 3bet almost always here preflop.I really really don't like the turn bet. Betting half our stack is awkward and just looks strong.I like betting something stupid like 250. Maybe we can induce some raises from webbi, and if not we still have a nice stack size for a river shove.

  12. I think the issue is the time investment. nosoul's idea calls for hours of solid play, and then donk-shoving behind multiple shovers in the middle game and hoping to get lucky. That's time you could put to better use in, say, actual cash MTTs playing a consistently solid strategy. Who wants to put in 2 hours of work stack building, and then, in the cases where you do build a stack instead of bust early, immediately donk out ~90% of the time?
Exactly. If you're going to play completely recklessly, you might as well do it in the first few minutes so you aren't wasting time. But playing solid poker for an hour or two and then donk-mashing all your chips in for no reason is simply a waste of all that solid poker.
  13. This is going to sound like horrible advice, but in the freerolls it actually works. Play normal, stack building poker for the first hour or so. Once 75% of the field has been eliminated (down to 750 or so in a field of 3000), hopefully you'll have around an average stack. Maybe a little less, maybe a little more. Wait for a hand where multiple people in front of you push preflop. Having a good size all-in with two callers before you is ideal. Go all-in behind them with any two cards. Obviously, most of the time you'll miss and be knocked out. The one time you win the hand, though, you can cruise to the money and be done with the freerolls. With fields that size, you HAVE to get lucky at some point. So, try to get lucky in a spot where there's already a lot of money in the pot. After winning that hand, pick on the small stacks. Don't get into any confrontations with somebody with more chips than you.
QFTThe only difference between freerolls and real money MTTs is that the players are much much worse. Math and EV doesn't change so shipping ATC without fold equity is just awful. You should be doing is the same thing that you would do in a real money tournament. Adjust to the poor play and exploit everyone's likely tendency to call too much. That means take your good hands and value bet them relentlessly. Take your marginal hands and value bet. Again, bluff-shoving into players who already committed their stack is simply not going to work.
