  1. Yeah I got to about page 200 as well. It's very changeable from what I read; one chapter would be riveting and wonderfully written (e.g. a character study of a girl with a difficult background), the next a bit patchy and dry. You could see how a lot of it was going to tie together eventually i.e. the characters lives becoming intertwined or something. I reached a point where there is a long chapter of quite dry, boring analysis of the tax system - this was DFW's intention since this book is supposedly exploring boredom as a concept. Of course, it's not very palatable to the reader so that's wh
  2. Well, I can't contribute to the burger discussion but yesterday I had dim sum for the first time. Can't say I have any inclination to eat it again. It's like bland Asian tapas.
  3. I'm gonna see Girls in November, can't wait. Love the new album. Also will be seeing Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
  4. I'm pretty boss in the kitchen. Today I'm cooking homemade barbecue sauce. I'm celebrating because my food tumblr-blog-thingy has 50 'followers' as of this morning. 50 people who like to see what I eat every day. It's totally normal.
  5. You forgot me.... therefore you are me.
  6. I dig the song "Cruel", wanting to hear more of the album now.Lately I'm listening to a lot of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Deerhunter and The Walkmen. Giving a try to The Weeknd, War on Drugs, Neon Indian, and Silver Jews. Recently I saw Kurt Vile and Chad VanGaalen (respectively) in concert. Good stuff. "Shave My Pussy" is the best.I really like this song at the moment:

  8. I worked in a cafe full time for a year and only once did I see any funny business - a bitchy woman annoyed my manager and he rolled a sausage on the floor before serving it to her (I made it clear to him that I was highly unimpressed). I would absolutely never in any circumstances do anything like that. It's called "common decency".
  9. I know peeps that did this:Tough GuyLots of tough ol' races out there it seems. Yeeehhhup.
  10. Not trying to sound suspicious or confrontational or anything but... who are you and how do you know so much about Parliament?
  11. It can be loo or toilet. I tend to say bathroom because I guess I picked that up in the US. Cloakroom is seriously a place you leave your coat! I went to a music gig on Thursday and a swing dance ball in a big 1920s ballroom last night, and at both I left my coat and bag in the "cloakroom" and used the facilities in a seperate "toilet". There are a few Chipotles in London now. I do not intend to patronise them. In Parliament I say "All right?" to every security officer and police officer I pass. It sounds more like "A'right?" the way it's pronounced. That is my standard greeting, but it occasi
  12. This happened yesterday as I was walking through one of the many long winding corridors of Parliament:Posh young black man with round glasses and red suspenders on: Excuse me, could you direct me to the nearest men's cloakroom?Me: Ummm.... cloakroom?PYBMWRGARSO: Yes.... the toilet....Me: Oh! Yeah, it's just here. Sorry, I thought you might actually want somewhere to hang your cloak.PYBMWRGARSO hurries into the gents.Me am socially awkward.
  13. Dominos is different in the UK, it's way better. In the US it isn't much different to any other pizza place but here it just tastes amazing. Y'all would have to come over here and try it to understand.
  14. I'm on my day off. I broke up with Tony this morning because I found out that he tried to get back together with his ex for pretty much the whole of July. Now I'm waiting for my Dominos Pizza to arrive.
  15. When my mum and dad met and started dating she was 15 and he was 21.
  16. I'm pretty sure the whole planking trend died about a year ago. The news said something a few weeks ago about a new craze of "owling" which was supposed to be replacing planking, but I don't think it is really catching on.
  17. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD. He knew this was where I wrote about my life to people and discussed my relationship with him. He knew I wouldn't want him to ever look. That makes it private, regardless of actual accessibility.
  18. Well exactly. You'd think after all the conversations we had about trust and privacy that he would know not to do this. He thinks its ok because he told me and said he won't do it again.
  19. Well my asshole hypocrite of a boyfriend caught a glimpse of this page on my computer and went off and found it later. He read my recent posts, all the stuff about him, and he is now asking me not to go into so much detail about him, update y'all so often etc. He still hasn't actually apologised for invading my privacy. So I guess I can't post anything personal here any more because I won't know if he is reading.
  20. Did I see in the books thread that you had it as an audio book? If so that's a bit of a shame as the whole bilingual thing probably makes it easier to understand when reading. I hope they included the footnotes too? Those are important. Anyway, did you like it?
  21. Well, I'm back. I could have posted while I was in Croatia but I couldn't remember the password for my iPhone account. Anyway I spied on y'all and wanted to make some kind of insensitive comment to Wang but now the moment has passed. A lot of women sunbathe topless in Croatia. Just letting y'all know. Not me though. I'm too English for that nonsense.
  22. I'm going to Croatia tomorrow for 12 days, see y'all on the flipside.
  23. Literally can't wait. Might kill myself and go to heaven just to watch it sooner.
  24. Almost finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. Really enjoying it and am captivated. I'm learning a lot from it about the political history of the Dominican Republic, but he incorporates it through telling the story of different members of one family. His style is very distinctive, using lots of slang and a conversational style which makes it all accessible and funny rather than dry or sentimental. It won the Pulitzer Prize too. Really recommend it.
