  1. Daniel,

After perusing 4, your responses, and some information on the net, my feeling is that a lot of criticism directed towards you is fueled by jealously towards your stature in the poker world combined with the 'easy target' concept. By putting yourself out on a limb and revealing some of your imperfections and insecurities as a person, people are prone to attack and try to bring down the part of you that is more vulnerable, in contrast to your relatively super strong image as a poker player. People love to see successful people brought down.

I had problems and identified areas I could improve in my life, so I went to a shrink for a while and re-examined some various life skills. You chose this CC thing. If it helped you and nobody is harmed by your involvement and promotion of the program then nobody should be taking it as seriously as some people on 4 have been.

The worst hypocrites are the people who subscribe to organized religion and then bash you for believing in CC. To include the worship and belief in someone that cannot even be proven to exist as part of one's major beliefs is alternately gullible, delusional, and sad. What if one of these more organized religions' version of God actually did exist? Then still, billions of people would be worshiping the 'wrong' God. One of the great mysteries in life to me is how otherwise savvy, intelligent people could build so much of their lives around a concept (the existence of God) that is not even close to being able to prove. So much damage has been caused by organized religion and all the good that people attribute to it was done by people that I would argue are inherently good to begin with. I don't see the difference between Unitarianism and Catholicism, Wiccans and Rastafarians, Scientologists and Mormons. Maybe someone could enlighten me as to why they spend their whole life believing in a single omnipotent, omniprescient being, but if I claimed that a bracelet on my wrist gave me extra 'powers' they would laugh in my face like I just told them God had a son 2k years ago and he did all these miraculous things (oh wait, that really is actually what Christians believe) lol.

I really enjoy watching you play poker and I think the world is basically a better place with you in it (unless there is something I don't know about). If this place helped you re-connect with some important people in your life, then I'm glad for you. Just tread carefully, knowing that if it hits the fan with this place, (fraud, more cultish than initially known, etc) your endorsement of them will be rightfully villified. Haters gonna hate and jealously is such a strong component in the criticism of public figures. I wouldn't want to comment on Antonio's involvement because I hung out with him a bit in 06 and as a far as I know he hasn't given me permission to talk about things in a public forum, but you very much put yourself out there, so that's why I responded. I think Nick Binger brought an excellent perspective to the discussion. Sometimes, trying to 'clear up' some things does exactly the opposite and emboldens people to paint you as desperately defending this organization. In the same way A-Rod 'seems' cocky and aloof to an outsider, you 'seem' like a very decent person who is trying to fill a void in life. My simple solution to that problem was finding a wonderful chick from Thailand who treats me like I was the son of God. Go ahead and brush your shoulders off- you're a busy guy and you don't owe anyone any explanation (including me).

  2. Bob, based on the reports of what went down, MM's policy of not allowing promotion of charity on the the forum is justified. DN is courageous and outspoken, and I appreciate him for that, but he got this one wrong. Whether or not the actual charity raised money is overshadowed by the rip off perpetrated by Jasep. The appearance of ANY impropriety is overwhelmingly damaging to any argument for allowing charities to be promoted on two plus two.

Witteles should also feel like a moron. The guy runs poker fraud alert and ends up vouching for a guy with a history of being criminally dishonest. DN doesn't look like a moron- he just got this one wrong and so did you.

Your loyalty to DN is something I greatly admire and I would say the same stuff if I was in your shoes. I'm the same way w my friends. Whether they are right or wrong, they are right, and if stuff needs to be sorted out in private, it gets handled. I'd go to war w u any day, Bob.

  3. Warning: the following may be deemed offensive. If Bob or other powers that be view this as inappropriate, let me know. Johnny Hughes has his poker stories and I have mine. I hope u guys find this entertaining. I just want Ron Mexico to comment. That's all I've ever wanted l . . .

Location: unit j3, Mci concord, 2011

Game: 11 max nlo/nlhe (dealers' choice) cash errrr canteen

    Stakes:$2.00 for 50 chips (a "bank")

Players: Mostly laggy blacks, a couple passive Spanish guys, another white guy who doesn't play all that much, and me half Chinese half Irish (yes I've been blessed)

While inside, you take sides according to race, unless you are affiliated, and I'm white but I maintain friendly relations w everybody unless something got to be done. The table is very friendly and everybody knows one another. These observations are crucial to understanding table dynamics/hand ranges/placement of weapons, etc.

Everybody dealing Omaha as usual except new white guy who doesn't seem to understand the rules of Omaha that well and seems reluctant to ask. Preflop raises are frequent and most everybody calls but 3 bets are rare.

Spanish guy deals Omaha and I'm dealt AA/xx ds somewhere in late/middle position. Lag raises in ep, most call, and I 3 bet big to buy button, thin field, more money in pot, bla bla bla. Everybody folds but initial raiser and his buddy who both have big stacks and good canteen in their locker (honey buns, chips, soda, meat sticks, cheeses, and chili). Second caller mutters something under his breath about me buying pot like last time (???). They are homeboys so while I like my hand, position, I don't have a great read on their hands pre. Neither are suspected cheaters so I'm not worried about that.

Flop: Ac 9d 8d (I got clubs but no diamonds) ch, ch, I bet 1.5x pot to try to take down pot and rep exactly what I have, hoping to fold out everything but wrap/fd combo but I'm SHOCKED when they both almost insta call.

Turn: Ad Tying to contain excitement, thinking about chili meal I'm about to have cellie cook up w my winnings. At the sight of second ace on board the pre raiser laughs and snorts,"damn Toby, u trying to do us like that?" as he thinks I never had two aces pre and tried to buy pot w big 3-bet. He casually checks and next guy pots. I call and shrug, "whatever bro, maybe I got nut flush now."

Pot now has like 50 bux in it and guys are hanging over tiers checking out the action. Even one of the screws comes over to take a look.

River: random broadway card. At this point I know guy has flush and I don't even think he's considering me filled up, let alone quads. He bets small( for value I think) and I think for about 2 seconds and shove my last five or six banks on top and stare right at him, "whattya wanna do, jimmy?" I'm trying to make it look like I'm frustrated even though I know he has to call. Sure enough, he calls and I quietly turn over my hand. Two dozen "oh shit" s ring out simultaneously and I put two fake guns in the air and yell out "Heath street!!!" which is where my opponents are from. Most everybody laughs, my guys clap, but surprisingly, one of the gentlemen from Heath street isn't happy, dare I say hurt, by my antics.

He yells out "************" at me, the cards, the cop, etc. I get paid w/o incident as money is on table but there is grumbling from the blacks. When we hear about it, we approach an older black guy who didn't play but is respected. We confer w him and he assures us that while he was upset and guys heard about it in other blocks, he can guarantee nobody going to set it off over some trash talk in poker, even if it was a huge pot. But if the guy stil feels a certain way, he might want a fair one. I speak up and say, "c'mon I don't want a problem w him, we're cool, but if he wants a fair one, then fine." Everybody agrees, shakes hands, and it gets dropped.

Not all the hands worked out so well for me. If people want to hear more crazy/interesting/funny/revealing stories then let me know itt. Until then, lets go Ravens straight up! Get it done! One time!

Ps I am looking to be staked for this years wsop main. I will take up to 15k. Serious inquiries only (always wanted to say that)

Thank you Annie dookhan (google it)

  4. I've only been back playing online in US for 3 months but Bovada has been pretty good to me. The tables are anonymous (no screen names) and no trackoing software allowed, and rumors of more bots and collousion than usual but it doesnt seem to effect the micro and low limits to the point where it's not beatable. I deposited w Moneygram and cashout only takes 2-3 days w $20 fee on 200.00 cashout. Not much bonuses and no rakeback but it seems more trustworthy than other sites I hear about in US. Hope this helps

  5. Bovada will take visa pre paid cards but make sure the card specifies it can be used online and internationally. They will also take money gram, which is the way I deposited. The fees are only 11.99 and they will reimburse you if your deposit is 300 or more.

I don't know why more Americans aren't playing at bovada. They seem to be the only us site that gets pays within 2 wks, the games are soft, and customer service is always available by phone. The only cons is the lack of a rake back and high rake, but I like having money on a site that is making good bread. At FTP everyone and their moms was sponsored and I always wondered how the **** they could afford to pay all those pros. Now we know.

  6. Harkin-

There is a huge difference between advising someone you know not to lend to a poor risk and contributing to rumors and innuendos in public about someone you most likely don't know and will never know. EL and and any like him are not going to be trying to borrow from anyone on this forum, unless they already have a relationship of some sort. The vigilance I'm referring to might include requests for references, but again, that should be handled privately, not in a public domain.

My main point is that going public with complaints about private business never seems like the best option.

The concept of lending money to a gambler who needs more money to hopefully gamble and be able to pay back more people is flawed, at best, and sick, at in its worst form. If you don't enough confidence in yourself to collect what is owed to you, then don't lend the money.

Your attempt at equating gossip about people you don't know with telling your friend not to lend to a deadbeat is overreaching and inaccurate.

  7. The main point of DN's that I can wholeheartedly agree with is his assertion that private debts should remain private, not to be adjudicated on Internet forums by gossip-mongers. While some think those who have shown themselves to be untrustworthy should be publicly outed in to order to save others from being victimized, I think people should be more vigilant with their money/lending practices and refuse to lend money unless they can be assured that they will be repaid, not just because the prospective borrower was on tv a couple times and has a good reputation. Without that vigilance the lender is just a sucker and it seems that many in the poker community may not be suckers on the table, but certainly are off.

As for the million dollar ex. That is a poor attempt to justify theft. The examples would be more polarized if someone stole the money to pay for their sick kid's operation vs car, clothes, jewelry, etc. Stealing money with the hope of gambling it up to pay back sounds like something only a degen gambling addict would think up. Ask people not entrenched in the poker community what they would think of that plan and they would tell you that you need help.

Finally, if someone wronged you, don't go crying like a little girl to their friends indirectly on the Internet- handle your personal business in private and do what you need to do.

  8. I don't know DN so I am not in a position to recommend how he should deal w playing in a cash game w HL but I am inclined to think that he is putting a lot of unnecessary thought and energy into a negative situation. As for the rest of the poker community, the petitions and peer pressure on HL is all fine and dandy but at the end of the day why don't some of the high limit players just grab HL off the felt and let him know he is not to come around any more. You don't need none of this high school girl gossip, petitions, etc. You don't need to be a capable guy to tell this POS he can't come around. If just one guy that has been affected by HL would stop bitching and moaning and just handle his business, HL would probably stop coming around. You can't negotiate fairness with someone like HL, apparently, so make him feel your point.

  9. After my wife cr-bluffed me on the river in a 4-8 Lhe for the third time in 2 hrs at Foxwoods and I had to borrow more money from her in front of the table. I whispered in her ear, "babe, I only got enough for the blinds can I borrow another buy in?" She then loudly exclaimed "again?" I muttered something about how bad her cooking is (under my breath of course) and sheepishly walked away.

  10. Vk, my man, how should I remit the payment of 75k (certainly a bargain when one considers how much '21' made)? After talking to some friends in Hollywood they assured me that purchasing an award winning screenplay that was hawked on an Internet poker forum (w/price included no less) would most definitely be a +ev decision. After all, who uses agents in Hollywood anymore anyways?

  11. Lol. Can always count on family guy for a few moderately inexpensive laughs. We got fox and the cw networks so I was able to check family guy, the dad show w/Stan, etc. I'll check out ur blog. Never been super proficient w computers but should b able to handle basics like clicking on a link. Anyone know how these card rooms are in ma? Evaluations of bovada for sportsbook and poker- primarily re payout, financial integrity?

  12. What's up Fcp? Been away for 3 yrs. what have I missed? I was on here back in 05 but never posted. Interested in trustworthy online sites, strategy, b&m low stakes PLO in boston area, meeting new people online. I have some crazy stories that will come out over time. Does anyone have 50k to lend me? I can pay u back as soon as my boy Howard replaces some money I had at this online poker site. I've been playing at bovada and don't quite understand why some sites are functioning in us and others are not. I have to catch up on a lot. A week ago I was in the hole in a level 5 prison and now I'm home . . .
