  1. Why do you care about politics at all? I guess I just don’t see why it would matter day to day in a relationship.
  2. Yeah, I think girls get way ahead of themselves with the idea of setting people up. In what world would you have gone for that.
  3. You could be killing it in the dating scene. You’re a good looking dude. I would feel so uneasy about going full WFH. My company still thinks it’s all BS and anyone working from home is really just taking unapproved PTO. So to then make the jump to Vegas alongside it, I couldn’t do that. The girl has been pretty lighthearted about the shenanigans on the dating sites, making fun of the lazy attempts. We hung out for a few hours earlier, met at an OK restaurant for lunch. She hasn’t really explored the town yet. I had been talking up this nice neighborhood, and she seemed curious, so I
  4. Coworker tested negative. I think this scare has really set back the timetable for us being back in the office. Probably meeting up with the cute Asian girl for lunch today. We talked for a bit over FaceTime last night, she was talking about the train wreck that is her online dating inbox. Said some Asian guy gave her a stern warning about getting involved with white guys.
  5. My normal humor just sucks with people I don't know very well. I play dumb, lean on sarcasm, that sort of thing, and I could see it being taken wrong. It's just tough in the early stages, because they're so quick to ghost. Not that I am worried about getting ghosted by this particular girl. I don't think she is wanting to jump into bed, but I'm a safe way for her to test the waters with dating for the first time in like seven years. I'm not sure I would sleep with her yet. Probably sounds crazy, but if she turns out to be clingy, I don't want to add fuel to the fire.
  6. She's quickly figuring it out, said something today about most guys being pretty up front about what they wanted from her. I still think there's a chance that she's looking at me as a mark, but maybe not. Dating is just crazy. People talk about the range of things they run into, but it's another thing to witness it first-hand.
  7. I was straight with her, she was fine with it. The call went great. She's trying to figure out how dating should work, just finished up a divorce. I sort of broke the fourth wall and said, try not to walk all over guys, but this should pretty much happen on your terms. She doesn't know what she doesn't know about the way the average guy conducts himself.
  8. Well, I spent about two hours in the same room as a coworker today, who found out after hours that they'd been in contact with someone who tested positive. So now I have to figure out how to explain this as I'm canceling with this girl. What a roller coaster.
  9. I am not expecting this experience.
  10. Doing FaceTime with her tonight, and then meeting up for drinks tomorrow. She is super new to this, first date in a long time apparently. Yeah, she's really cute.
  11. This girl is pretty solid. She tells me she moved here from South Korea a while ago, and follows it up with “and no I don’t need a green card.” Seems to be a real person, which is nice. I am all about Coke Zero and Red Bull Zero Sugar. Sometimes mix in some Monster Zero. Diet Coke is okay if I can’t get Coke Zero.
  12. It would be funny if he made all of that up. I mean, why would he know that.
  13. Tonight was something. Drank with coworkers, then ran/walked five miles and had a salad for dinner to make up for it. About two hours ago, I matched with girl on one of the sites, and we hit it off. Extremely cute, both looks and personality. Says she's starting dental school this year. She just went to bed, said she lost track of time, but left her number for tomorrow. Sad to say I'm sitting here thinking, "that was a little too easy..."
  14. It’s not ideal, that’s for sure. I just think I’m going to get it either way, and we would absolutely know if it started killing people our age, and plagues with unknown aspects are as old as time. I am in a similar place, as far as not wanting to give it to someone else. Last night, in a small group setting, our CEO basically bragged about having 50 friends who have gotten it, like him not being afraid or whatever is a point of pride. I don’t think it’s something to be afraid of, either, but I’m not going to celebrate such a stance from a leadership position. Of course, I read today
  15. The FT had an article trying to calculate appropriate reparations arrangements with the surviving corporations from the slave trade era. The comments pretty much all pointed out the absurdity of picking that one period of time, considering that one can go back to Roman times, and demand that reparations be paid by Italy. The whole thing is getting absurd. My favorite talking point, the claim that the majority of the RE Lee statues were built in the 60s as a negative reaction to the civil rights movement. I looked at the top three google results for his statues being removed, all began con
  16. I was expecting a big down day in the market based on the new infections and potential for states to start locking down more. I wonder if people are just looking past the infection rate and drilling down to mortality at this point.
  17. I will have one on hand, for sure. I did end up getting a Peloton. It gets here in a few weeks. I just had a few days where I was not able to spend two hours walking, for one reason or another, and I’ve started to feel like I might have hit a plateau at 170. 0% financing for 39 months is pretty crazy.
  18. I don’t know the etiquette. I am okay with wearing a mask normally but I want to make sure she can recognize me. It’s a weird one.
  19. I'm meeting up with this really cute, nice-seeming girl next weekend. She's 36, has a kid, but apparently has a doctorate and a great job. She asked me if I felt like covid was keeping me from meeting people, and I told her I could not in good conscience blame my results on covid. Apparently she liked that answer. I'm pretty excited, this would be the first one I've met from online.
  20. The reason it’s worth doing is, it should grow at 10-20% per year, plus or minus whatever the market does, plus or minus whatever quality of decisions leadership makes. And if the company sells some or all of itself someday, I may become pretty wealthy. But it is a pretty lean lifestyle for the next several years.
  21. It’s basically like I’m being made partner, except it’s not free stock, it’s me buying it from someone else who was mostly given it for free. Just means I won’t be buying a house for at least five years, unless my future girl is a baller.
  22. I could go for a good bow every now and again.
  23. I talked to my new boss this morning about the whole partner buyout thing happening. I asked because I have cash sitting around waiting for the potential to buy, and I’ve been just patiently watching the market roar back. He says, “we are going to open it up to directors, so you’ll have a chance to buy.” I respond “yeah but I’m not a director” and he says “I still have to figure out what your title will be, but I’m going to make you a director before the offering.” Good news of course, but it means I’m probably taking a bunch of leverage to do it, so it’s kind of bittersweet. Certainly se
  24. Yeah, we absolutely don’t have capacity for three years of supportive policy. I think we just ringfence the vulnerable and let it run wild among the less at risk population. The original measures taken to stop the spread were reasonable at the time, given our understanding of the virus. That said, I talk to people my age-ish, who have no risk factors, but are still hardcore self-quarantining, and I just scratch my head.
  25. The thing is, I don't know how anyone knows whether herd immunity as a concept is BS or not. For example, I don't believe for a second that 20%+ of NYC has had covid-19, but that's what the random sampling antibody testing has said thus far. Seems like we still don't know how far it got, or when it even started, at this point. (I don't know if you saw the Harvard study on hospital parking lots and search engine trends going back into the summer months, but that evidence says it's possible that the first case was earlier than November.) I just think we're going to end up looking at this
