  2. Absent any reads I would:1. Click time bank2. www.sharkscope.com the villain3. really shitty ROI = shove, otherwise I can fold pretty easily here. This is a coinflip at best against anyone with half a brain early in a SNG, your play is strong raising limpers from EP, and villain is showing extreme strength by raising 1/3 of his stack OOP in the SB after your sign of strength.

  3. What I'm trying to determine is where I'm at skill level-wise...and trying to do it with as little ego as possible. A hard, practical look at my game, how I can continue my improvement and which road I should take going forward. Maybe some of you can help in that with honest assessment and constructive criticism.Summary: I'm just a poker hobbyist with no intentions of trying to go pro or anything close to that. I've played online very sporadically over the last year 2 years, in a competitive home game the last 3 years and in local Kansas City casinos and Las Vegas cash games ($1/$2 NLHE) periodically. Nothing consistent however except for my monthly home game ($30 buy-in, fixed blinds of .25/.50 for 5 hours, no rebuys...kind of a bastardized cash/tourney event). Over the last 10 months, I've dedicated time and effort to the craft, reading poker theory, analyzing my hand histories, playing in more online and live tourneys and learning from better players, along with brutal honesty in my own personal play. I'm constantly trying to improve. All this dedication has blossomed into some drastic success percentage increases: I'm dominating my home game...cashing in almost 70% of local casino tourneys (small buy-ins between $30-$65) that I play...tripling my success in online tourneys for cashes (buy-ins of between $5-$10). This has been a 5-6 month trend upward. I understand that these are small stakes and a relatively short time period of measurement. CardPlayer magazine isn't rushing to my doorstep for an interview...I get that. Could it only be variance? Or this an indication I'm ready to make some kind of incremental step upward?Guys, I know the information provided is hardly complete enough for you to give anything other than an opinion. But I'd appreciate any insight, no matter how brutal it may be. Thanks in advance.
If the success is prolonged, your game may be ready for a step up. However, I recommend moving up slowly as the styles in play vary greatly as you move up.If you're content with the success you're having...you dont HAVE to move up... just keep that in mind.Check out www.officialpokerrankings.com as well for numerical measure of your success.
  4. If you claim to be so GREAT at PLO8, then WTF are you doing chopping? Just TID!
I dont like variance...it was a 10 minute level tourney so no one had more than 12 BBsAnd I'm not great.... just dont suck as much as everyone else in micro omaha tournies..I'm not sure, but maybe the reason is that a lot of the players are likely omaha cash players taking shots at tournies, and my experience with longer tournaments might be giving me an edge over some players who are losing focus...
  5. What is it that makes hold'em so much more popular than the other games?I have come to the realization that I am a way better Omaha Hi and Omaha 8b tournament player than I am a hold'em player, yet I continue to smash my head against the wall playing hold'em for a miniscule ROI. I'm beyond sick of getting deep in hold'em tournies only to lose the mandatory all-in coinflips.Hold'em requires more hand selection discipline than Omaha, but discipline is boring!! I would think that action games like Omaha would get more attention than they do...I'm just as guilty of this hold'em frenzy as anyone, but I'm definitely going to start playing more Omaha...Over the past 120 days I've played 281 tournaments (as defined by OPR)6/7 of them were hold'em, 1/7 were some version of omaha. I've won 2x as much in omaha as hold'em.... something is wrong there!I'm going to try and balance out my numbers to something closer to 50/50 or at least 75/25.Join me in starting an Omaha revolution!

  6. Checking the turn would be bad IMO. Remember, he just called on your flop bet, so he's probably not horribly strong. I think you get a check behind a lot here. Bet 1500.
Hero is in position, so if he checks behind on the turn he can snap off a river bluff / get a lot of value out of a confused queen.Theres really a lot of different ways to play this, it just depends (like everything else in poker) on your opponent
  7. Sure, I wasn't implying that I would limp, I just really didn't like the raise.Yeah, but it's a lot riskier to push the turn with a flush draw than the flop since you only get to see one card. Although I suppose the purpose of pushing here would be the high likelihood that you'll fold, not that he wants to get it all in with his draw.I still think hands like JJ, QQ could be in his range. He doesn't want to get aggressive because he's worried about a higher pair, but he also doesn't want to fold. So he calls your CB with position to see if you fire again on the turn. When you don't, and the other villain also checks, he pounces. He pushes because it wants it to look like a bluff, or because he puts you and/or MP1 on overs and wants to charge you a big price to try to hit one of them.I don't know, he could really have a variety of hands here. I just hate the idea of calling a turn push with a mediocre pair of Tens against 2 villains who have called both my PF raise and CB.
I would put CO on a pair + fd maybe As 2s, so it really depends on your MP1 read
  8. 6 – I’d fold, but not horrible17 – I don’t like a limp with 33 – worked for you’re here, but your stack isn’t deep enough to play this hand for anything less than a pot-committing raise or shove imho (folding is also an option here)20 – fold J4o32 – Standard… win a flip already would you??33 – eh…I guess this isn’t bad… by shoving pre, you get rid of the SB… if you had like 2 BBs left, I would say to check and shove any piece of the flop…in general, just be sure you aren’t getting impatient after losing a big race… a couple double ups and you’re right back in this41 – I don’t really open fold this heads up…I guess you knew he had a monster though haha44 – Good….but tight fold49 – yes51 - yes 52 – yes53 – yes56 – Close…Typically, I would say fine, but you have been shoving here, if the BB I’m certainly calling you very light here….definitely not horrible, but just be conscious of your image57 – See above61 – I understand your thinking, but they are going to need a huge hand to call you since now you have a real stack. I’d make it 2.5x and hope to get reshoved on… You’re losing a lot of value here imho. As I said… I do understand what you’re thinking though.63 – I don’t like… You are too deep for this shove… I just fold this 100% 66 – See above… You are crushed when called here… I hate this move with Ax from MP67 – standard89 – I like93 – Not a bad spot to raise…folding is fine tho98 – gg….congratsOverall, I think you understand tourney strategy, but may have gotten a little overzealous with some of your shoves… overall, well played and only a couple glaring errors in my mind

  9. I honestly think both players are playing the board here, the BB either missed a draw or had his deuce counterfeited on the river, and UTG+1 isnt accomplishing anything with his min-bets with a pair. With that said, bad players are more likely to call on the river playing the board, and if UTG+1 has some sort of pair he'll call a decent sized betBasically...they either have nothing and will check or fold and you get nothingor they have a hand and will call a strong river betBet something in the 1/2 - 3/4 pot leaning towards 3/4 on the river.I would advocate a river overbet here if either player had shown strength....they're just too weak to overbet here though I think

  10. Once you look close at SB, the answer should be clear.
BAlso...take that thing with a grain of salt...the questions basically read like this:You are in the BB with XX and blatantly misplay your hand preflop, on the flop and turn...What should you do on the river? The two times I took it I got a 116 and a 124.. and I got the 124 first so I guess I'm getting dumber??
  11. If I'm playing 1 or 2 tables, I tend to take detailed notes - where people raise from, their ranges, what they'll call with and from where, whether they mostly checkfold or checkraise, etc. I'll also note big stacks or deep tourney finishes so I can be aware of consistent big winners that might influence my game choice. As psujohn mentioned, the biggest benefit is just paying attention. Beyond 2 tables, I find that I spend too much focus taking notes and not enough on the tables, so I become more selective on the notes I take.
I like to add sharkscope stats to notes for SNG opponentsHad a guy make a weird shove on me the other night...it really didnt make sense, and i was thinking of calling anyways...Then I see he's like -40% ROI and -$9,000....uhh I call....ship it
  12. I had this done about 1.5 years ago, and am back to nearly full function. I had a torn rotator, labrum, and bone spurs as if the first two weren't enough.A few pieces of advice:1. Get a hot physical therapist2. Do therapy (and therapist)3. Don't rush backReally resist the urge to rush things...I'm guessing this is a sports-related injury. Your shoulder will feel great, but do not rush things, you will only set yourself back.I set myself back a couple of times by trying to swim and throw at paces that my shoulder wasn't ready to handle. You just swell everything up in there and then have to wait until it subsides before you can continue strengthening. The surgery isn't so bad, you'll be pretty sedintary for a few days, but after about a week, you should be pretty much back to normal (except for the sling).Good luck!

  13. Guys, I am sorry I have to do this, but I am going to have to pull out of the challenge.I put off playing the last 3/4 of my tournies and now I'm not going to have time to play them.I have a lot of work to do with exams this week and next and it would just be plain irresponsible to neglect my work in order to finish this challenge. This is my last quarter of school, and I don't wanna screw up my GPA.I apologize for taking someone elses spot in the challenge - good luck for those still in.

  14. I value bet a 10 there a lot of times as well as a pocket pair as you have shown exceptional weakness and I check behind on turn with a full house to fein weakness some of the time. If I am him I also bet the draw on the turn as your flop bet and turn check seems to be an obvious continuation bet. Good call but I dont think this is standard ace high call as I think you could be behind a lot of the time. Also, he could very well call quickly on the flop with a-q or a-k or a pocket pair which arent necessarily re-raise hands preflop from certain players and beat you here.I think you might be getting value bet more often than bluffed here.
So you check behind with a T on the turn but you are betting with a draw? Obviously there is a chance the guy is playing a really passive T, or flopped top two or a weirdly played set and turned a boat and checked to get value on the river, but we're good enough here to make this a call imo.It is a bit of a brag post, but just thought it was an interesting hand since I figured some would think it was a crazy call, but I was very confident in the call.I actually was so sure he was drawing that I thought about betting the river but decided to check to induce a bluff.I've made calls with Q or K hi, but only heads up or in blind vs blind would I ever dare pull something like that.
  15. Winning huge pots (average stack was like 22k at the time) with A-hi is what poker is all about.I actually didnt feel like this was a very difficult call. He called the flop bet quickly which made me think draw, and most hands that call (and dont raise) on the flop that are ahead (AT, KT, QT) will bet the turn here. After the turn check, he cant be value betting hardly anything on the river. So is there such a thing as a standard call with Ace hi?
