  1. Best strategy in these is to play like it isnt a rebuy tourney.....as one poster already said, therell be a lot of nuts throwing money around....you should be aiming to capitalize on them.....if the cards break even, you should be able to double through once or twice and be alright....good luck

  2. That's a monster flop for your hand, but I don't think you played it optimally. If he has a hand like K-J you'd be a favorite on the flop with position. However, on the turn if it blanks off for you your opponent would now be a favorite. By re-raising the flop you could get MORE money in as the favorite, and NO money in on the turn when you are an underdog. Your raise on the turn isn't all that bad since you most likely have a ton of outs, but the way the hand was played I don't believe your opponent is going to fold here. Not to mention, that if your opponent DOES have a straight or a set he'll likely re-raise you forcing you to put in three bets on the turn as an underdog. Overall, I think the turn raise has negative EV:1. You'll rarely bluff him off his hand.2. You are an underdog.3. He'll make you pay three bets when he has a monster. The flop is where you should jam your hand. You have position so it's important to take control of the hand. That way if the turn doesn't help you, you can get an EXTREMELY valuable free card.
I know its easy to say after the fact but, i agree 100%...the flop is where you pop it up on him.....you can then take that probable free card on the turn.....yeah, what he said...LOL
  3. This is a good topic to bring up.....a lot of my buddies won't play anything but Hold-em and it gets so damn frustrating because I love to play all the games.....I dont usually complain too much, cuz most of them are fish, so ill play whatever they want.....it gets so friggin boring though...hold em, hold em, hold em......Id say my best game is PLO....worst would be any split pot game....Anyone one else hear me that split pot games suck!!! I feel that poker pots should be taken by one person and one only.....i dont wanna split a pot with anyone.....just my opinion, thx for listening to my whining

  4. The difference between poker as a job and those other ones you listed are that poker is the only job that you can show up everyday, perform your job to the best of your abilities and wind up losing money.  All those other jobs you listed, no matter how much you hate it, you still get paid.  Of course most people hate their job, not many actually enjoy what they do for a living.  Most people think that they would love to play poker for a living, but my point is that just because it's fun as a hobby doesn't neccessarily mean it will be as enjoyable as a job.
    Buy this man a drink!!
  5. Stuey was so good at Gin, he would know what you held after a few discards.....they say his mind was unbelievable.....anyone that saw him play said there'd never be another Gin player like him in the history of the world...."He knew something everybody else didnt....the guy was a freak of nature" --Danny Robison (back in the day considered the best Gin player around----before Stuey took him for 150k the 1st time they played)

  6. thats ok, you dont have to agree. its simply a fact. You made a ludicrously small bet into a big pot. the bet screams 'i have the nuts or close to it'. you arent getting much action from anyone without the absolute nuts or someone who realizes you dont have the Ah and wont risk your stack protecting the Kh. Either check, or make an appropriately sized bet.
 In the words of Meatloaf..."You took the words right outta my mouth..."
  7. Pot was still small enough (compared to your stack) where the laydown was fine. Silly to call an all-in there on the river with only the 2nd nutz. Especially if he's generally a passive calling station type and this big raise was out of character.Personally, I probably would have raised preflop. I may have bet out the flop with two overs and the flush draw. I also might have bet bigger on the made flush to try to get a naked Ace of Diamonds out... or force them to pay for their redraw.Of course in this case that play might have only cost you more $$$... but generally I think it will make you more $$$. I don't play too much NL these, days, so maybe that's lousy.
Nothing lousy about it....thats exactly how op should have played the hand....nice fold, bad river bet
  8. Ive bet on just about everything you could imagine.....drinking, sports, games, girls, etc. etc......one of my favorite stories.....Me and 2 buddies go out to this Chinese joint for a night of hardcore boozing....after about 6 mai tais each we decide it would be funny to see if we could get these 2 fat girls back to my house, and if so, who would end up banging one/both of them....without going into details i lost 1k at the bar betting my buddy he couldnt drink 3 mt's in 5 min.....but ended up +4k for the night when I woke up with one of the chicks in the am....lol....good times :club:

  9. Fold Aces and Kings preflop. They will always lose you money. Raise AK 6 times the big blind every time. Last but not least, go all in everytime with K10, you will usually flop top pair with a good kicker or a gutshot straight draw.
    LOL.....good advice :club: P.S. OP < 14 any amount u like....lmao
  10. this could have been a very well played boat
It should have been a boat. Lucky you found a fishy $50 table. When you run into a real player you will go broke.Newsflash ...
I consider raising myself to isolate
This one line changes the post from an ok pot odds play...to a fish who got lucky. You raise to isolate to protect big hands not to price out the field on your draw. Here goes another one...
    Bingo bango bongo, Vince.
Never even considered a boat did you ? Saw that straight and it was Bingo ...as if you had the nuts. You remind me of the fish I played last weekend who turned over Ace high flush and said...actually SAID ...."I've got the nuts" when the board was paired. Guess he never saw my boat floating his way either. To answer your question though...No, this was not the worst played hand ever. I am sure you have played much worse.
LMAO......f'in hilarious!!! Bravo for this post :club::D
  11. This ones great.....sitting at a $5 - 10 Hold em table at Foxwoods....ive got 99 in mp and raise.....get 3 callers....flop comes 8 2 2....1st guy checks, i bet, other 2 fold, 1st guy calls.....turn is 3.....he checks, i bet....river 4.....he bets, i laugh and just call....he flips up A 5 off!!!! i made this face and just flipped my cards up...... fish: "What.....you wouldnt have played that??" me: "No....nice hand." fish: "Thank you, I thought i played it well."LOL....it took all my strength not to burst out laughing and tooling on him....unbelievable

  12. I spent 5 hours at a table with James Woods during the $1,000 rebuy event. He seemed like a sharp player, sociable, and very intelligent.Citytomwww.pokerchipsvideo.com
I agree.....I was in that event also...didnt sit at table with James Woods, but talked with him on a break and got a pic with him....very nice guy, cool as hell
  13. Call me crazy but I've got the feeling that Stu would have risked 55 to win 45 against "smash".If yuou could stand him up long enough and keep him from passing out, he might. He never was very good at making +EV wagers. The guy was a broke drug adict scumbag who abandoned his kid, didn't pay his debts and cheated whenever he could.Stop idolizing him.He wasn't that good of a poker player, either. He's just a good tragic figure for the game. If he was alive today and not coked out of his head and able to play he'd be about the 150th best player in the world. Maybe.
LOL...hahahahahahahahha.....oh, man, thanks smash, i needed a good laugh today
  14. THIS IS A LONG POSTHello all....havent posted in a while been kinda busy....just wanted to let everyone know how my trip to the Rio went this year. First off, I played in the 1k nlhe w/rebuys event....(i rebought twice) suffice it to say it wasnt my day...last hand I raised 3x bb from lp...got a caller and sb reraised 8x bb more....i had jj....my thinking here was that he mightve thought i was on a steal or had a weaker hand than i had and he was making this play with something like aj-ak, or a lower pair than mine. I wasnt worried about the caller, as i was pretty sure i had him beat....this was literally the best hand i saw all day and decided to go with it.....i reraised 10x bb more and he quickly called and flipped up aa...bye bye...what can u do??anyways, enough of my complaining....i then stood literally right behind Daniel and watched him play right up until he got knocked out (by a 3-outer on the river by the way)..i met Mr.Negreanu and got a pic. with him....he was very cool about it (got him right b4 he went on a break)....i also ran into Gus, Johnny Chan, Chau Giang....everyone was pretty cool and took a sec. to shake hands, etc.I returned a few days later and caught the final table of the 2-7 single draw no limit event....at final table: John Hennigan-when i left he had monster stack, Dewey Tomko-a lil short, and David Grey-average stack....and a few guys i didnt know (lucky them, huh?)I even got to shake the hand of the great Puggy Pearson!! Love that southern drawl of his.....sorry for rambling, lots to talk about, i guess.....overall just an awesome experience!!!! Thanks for listening

  15. I agree with you.  I was terribly disappointed in the show.  Gabe Kaplan announcing doesn'g help.  I also like how they kept saying the 64 best players in the world.  James Woods?  Jerry Buss?  Some 84 year old man I never heard of?
Ok....I agree with you guys that theres way too much filler on the NHUPC, and that the hands they do show are good....however I disagree with these 2 points....1)Gabe Kaplan is a hell of a lot better than Norman freakin Chad....hes way more knowledgeable about the game, and a lot wittier imo......2)This 'old guy youve never heard of' happens to be Henry Orenstein.....the creator of the hole card cams widely used today, a holocaust survivor, inventor of the Transformers(among a bunch of other things), and a damn fine poker player....when Phil Ivey started out Mr. Orenstein kept him broke for months!! Show some respect and/or class....sorry, had to get that off my chest
    well said
Thank you...Im glad someone got it
