Tip - Look in the strat section of this forum or in fact, read books like most of us already have, enough out there to give you advice or you just a cheap skate wanting to get free tips on how to win without putting in the time most of us here have????????

Get out of general, go into strat. Read SSHE. If you like NL, try the Smash theory on NL, an absolutely brainless way to make money. If you want to try Limit, look up a thread on something called TAG. Find a good rakeback deal and get comfortable with tight agggressive- as a matter of fact, live tight aggressive. Hold on to you your money until you get to the cash register, and throw it at the cashier, with gusto. That's tight aggressive. I play NL, so here is the smash theory- Go all in preflop with A-A and K-K. Don't raise 3x the blinds, just go all in, everytime you get them. Limp with or call raises up to 3 times the blinds with Pocket pairs Q-Q on down and A-x suited only. Do not raise with these hands, just limp and call raises. If you flop a set immediately go all in. If you flop a flush, immediately go all in. Otherwise, fold. That's it. Play that sytem religously, every hand with the utmost discipline and assuming you have the corect bankroll for the LIMITS YOU PLAY AT, YOU WILL MAKE MONEY. I PROMISE. What is the correct bankroll? Ten times the max buy in, 20 if your conservative. That is all you need to know. Oh, and some of us are pricks, but harmless in that it's on a computer screen- expensive computer screens because WE ARE ALL WINNERS, but nevertheless they can't bring the words to life. So, don't worry when you inevitably get flamed for something, water off a ducks back baby.

OK OK, Ill play nice, I agree with you, the Smash theory works, tired it over 20k hands and am up, but i found it boring. I told him about the books out there!!!! just because i dont find a need to write down the titles, doesn't mean i dont care, If he is after a beginners book, try Internet texas hold'em by Matthew Hilger, i found it very interesting if not a little wrong in places. This was the first book i read and i beileve it put me on the right path.Of course who can not mention SSHE this book is like a bible, without it your not going to win big.a lot of other books out there just find ones that you like reading. Websites - This one of course, 2+2, the tips page on fulltilt (althought short are fun to read) cardplayer, gutshot, all good places for a short read, The best i can offer is to just play as much as you can and decide if its NL or limit you want to play. After that, look into it, as both need a different type of skill and read into it alot.

We won't even get into my opinion on the Smash theory- needless to say, mindless and boring but it does work. We just want to give the guy an eay way to make a little money and get his feet wet. If you want me to reccomend a beginners book, try Helmuths book- absolute self centered drivel but his basic tight approach to NL won me my first 2 tournaments. Like I said though VERY basic.

Just thought, we never mentioned which websites to play at. I think somewhere like fulltilt or party (and skins) could be a good place to start, if he does want to use smashes theory, Pacific is the place to use it. Also i know this sounds really bad, but use the play money section of websites, it will help you with the basics of playing, dont worry about winning because its a good chance you wont, but you will learn the rules and helps show hands. Most poker sites do have a little section on how to the play the game aswell, check them out.
