I guess reading players and instinct are related. I know in Phil Hellmuth's book he talked a lot about smelling weakness in an opponent. Unfortunately he didn't say why he smelled weakness, so from memory the book gave little info how he gets some of his reads. That might just be an instinctual talent you either have or don't.

I've often wondered if there are any pros out there who play almost entirely on instinct and reading ability and rarely worry about odds. I know the basic odds like 35% to make a flush after the flop and 32% to make a straight. But after that (since I play for leisure) I rely mostly on instinct. I'm would imagine most pros play a combination of instinct and math. I've read where Ivey has said he thinks odds are overrated. Other than Ivey, I believe Doyle is probably a mostly instinctual player. Of course players like Gus Hansen and Chris Ferguson have reputations for being math players.

They should shout it from the rooftops that Ivey won 7 million and give him the money. The publicity of a big win would be great publicity for them and all casinos that the games can be beat for big money. If they can't bear the loss they should have set a limit once he got to a certain point. I'm not sure if Ivey was the one who stopped playing or the casino stopped the game.

I doubt it will be 16% of deposits, that would be ridicuous. It is more than likely 16% of the site's profits from rake and fees. -

I disagree, with 14% of taxes going to the states and 2% to the Feds that could induce more states to sign on. The 16% tax sounds like it is going to be on site revenue. I also like there is going to be Federal oversight which will improve the integrity of the game. -

Probably true, but if we are to believe Sheldon Adelson's words he is against online poker and the Republicans just made it part of their official platform to come out against online gambling. -

Update: I was watching PBS last night and they had the author of the political book, "The Party is Over". He stated Adelson has given 36 million so far and plans ot give 100 million by election time. He also said when you give that kind of money you expect something in return. -

If poker is your main concern, I would say yes. I doubt you'll ever see Mitt Romney's arm around Daniel. -
Funny last sentence but I don't think people under 45 know who Dale Carnegie is.

Looks like the anti online poker owner of the Venetian, Sheldon Adelson's 10 million+ campaign contribution is beginning to pay dividends. But if they lose it's just more money down the toilet like the multi-millions he gave Newt Gingrich.
