Yukon Brad Booth ....

Recommended Posts

Had the opportunity last night, actually about 3am this morning, to play against Brad. Was playing 20/40 kill at the Edgewater Casino and we were down to 5 of us and in walked Mr Booth. He immediately made a bee-line to our table as it had the most chips on it. He ended up playing for about an hour and a half with us until he dropped $1800 into our stacks ... this is not a brag post (although I did send him packing on his last hand for about $300). I just wanted to say that he's an awesome guy and really seemed to be genuine in every thing he said. I told him I can't wait to see him on High Stakes this year as they keep showing him hoisting "bricks" into the pot. I thought it looked like 4, but he said it was three (150K). He wanted to keep talking about it but I had to stop him saying I wanted to see it for myself. He immediately obliged, saying only that he "hoped he did Canada proud", and that he thinks its on in March. That's the kind of guy he is ... what you see is what you get (aren't Canadians the bestest?). He also told us that he had just recently been chosen for the Heads Up Championships on NBC and that he felt it was a "huge honour". I told him he was about to lose his monicker of "the best player no one's ever heard of" (which Doyle gave him) ... he thought that was pretty funny. That's all I can remember .... played for 16 hours and came straight to work so my brain aint very goot right now.

Was he nutbarring or playing poker?
Obviously the stakes were nothing to him but he seemed to be "playing", as he did fold a fair bit Pre flop, even on the Button once I believe. The game was very aggressive (short handed with a kill is 40/80, and 3 of the players are aggressive full ring, little lone short handed) so you "have to play to win" and there were a few pots that he showed down that were maybe questionable but he didn't know who he was playing against either. The hand I won off him (and two others) I had AQ Hearts on a kill ... I 3 bet and he capped it PF at 160 ... he ended up being all in and never showed his hand so I don't know what he had there.Simple answer .... impossible for me to say.

Last April I was in Vegas while the 5 Diamond was going on at Bellagio. I was playing lots there and railing some of the higher stakes games. On a Wednesday night, with no "big game" running in Bobby's Room, they set up a game on the second table in the room. I recognized a few players (Sam Farha, Joe Awada, Jason Lester, etc.) but there was a tall, young man sitting at the table with a rather large brick of bills and a ton of chips. I asked the floor what game they were playing and he said it was 200-400 NL. I railed the game for about 10 to 15 minutes and saw the young guy drag the majority of the pots, including about 5 in a row at one point. About an hour later I saw Gabriel Thaler near the Piano Bar and David Williams walked up and said "Who's the winner in there?" and Gabriel said "Brad is tearing that game up."It wasn't until months later that I figured out who Brad Booth is. I think he could easily be considered "the best player you've never heard of".
