Not Sure If This Counts As A Bad Beat....

Probably a dumb preflop call by me, but it was first hand of the tournament. Please don't flame me too bad, I'm still somewhat of a beginner. Was this just a stupid play on my part? I'm sure now that playing that hand against the big preflop raise wasn't good, but my biggest problem that I've noticed consistently is my post flop play, so that's what I'm more concerned with here, this just happend to have a bad PF call. Any feedback? Again, keep in mind that I'm a beginner. Thanks in advance.

Well last night was just a bad session overall. While I consider myself a beginner still (playing less than 6 months), I don't consider myself a terrible player for the most part. However, after the hand posted above, I was knocked out of the very next tournament on the third hand. I had KQ offsuit, flat called UTG and got a flop of Q10J. I bet 3x the BB and again someone bets enough to put me all in. I call because I have top pair and OESD. I fail to make my draw and once again lose to pocket kings. Just bad luck? Or bad poker? Next tournament, I'm doing much better (6/11 players left in a 27 person SNG.) Here's how that ended. *********** # 1 **************PokerStars Game #29203017369: Tournament #170677365, $5.00+$0.50 Hold'em No Limit - Level VI (100/200) - 2009/06/10 6:05:46 CT [2009/06/10 7:05:46 ET]Table '170677365 3' 9-max Seat #5 is the buttonSeat 1: chevaloz (5725 in chips) Seat 4: deputyjunior (8065 in chips) Seat 5: pesha22 (7090 in chips) Seat 6: DerdritteAkt (1480 in chips) Seat 7: watttre1 (4360 in chips) Seat 8: jbdallas07 (2795 in chips) DerdritteAkt: posts small blind 100watttre1: posts big blind 200*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to jbdallas07 [Jd Ad]jbdallas07: raises 400 to 600chevaloz: folds deputyjunior: folds pesha22: calls 600DerdritteAkt: folds watttre1: folds *** FLOP *** [6c Ks Kd]jbdallas07: checks pesha22: bets 600jbdallas07: calls 600*** TURN *** [6c Ks Kd] [Js]jbdallas07: bets 500pesha22: raises 5390 to 5890 and is all-injbdallas07: calls 1095 and is all-inUncalled bet (4295) returned to pesha22*** RIVER *** [6c Ks Kd Js] [Th]I call his bets thinking he probably had Ax and was trying to bully me out of the pot on the flop with odds of him making a set of kings at 72-1 (if I understand the odds correctly.) Then I make 2 pair on the turn with Ace kicker thinking they are good. I'd seen him use his big stack to bully a few hands prior to this so I didn't hesitate to bet and call. Any constructive feedback is appreciated.

Well first off, was it you who I was playing with at that final table 3 +.30 knockout (SpencerFCP). Did you end up placing first? Was either you or something with a very similar name. And on to the topic...I'm assuming since your considering it a bad beat, that someone rivered a set of 3's or a full house Q 3? ( I guess the flush possibilty is there too, but I don't know why he would be calling when you raised since he couldn't have the Q of clubs) I mean...I wouldn't consider it a horrendously stupid play, especially at the beginning of the tournament when you are trying to build you stack. Good bet on the turn when you picked up the ten, don't know if I would have called the all in though.

He ended up having pocket kings and made a higher 2 pair with the river 3. I wasn't surprised that he had the pocket pair, I just got unlucky with the river. And no, I wasn't fortunate enough to win any of my tournies last night, so it wasn't me that you played with. Although there is someone on there with almost the exact same screen name (minus the numbers I think.) Thanks for the feedback.

Not a bad beat... you should have folded pre-flop there, zero discussion.Sucks that you caught up on the turn only to be outdrawn on the river, but if you folded pre-flop, this never would have happened! As played.. I'm wondering why you lead out on the flop... were you going to fold to a raise? 3b shove? His 3b pre-flop is obviously a sign of strength this early in an mtt... just another reason to fold Q10 preflop.and lol @ the thought of not calling all in on the turn w/ 2 pair here.
