I don't think so.You don't need championships to evolve into a great player.See K. Garnett, J Kidd, C Paul, D Williams, A Iverson, K MaloneAll those guys significantly improved throught their first 4 years in the league and none of them sniffed a title in that time frame.Rajon Rondo and Tony Parker likely would have gone through a similar evolution with or without the titles. Wade was already a monster. As someone else said, they just happened to be in their first couple years in the league when they won the titles, then happened to continue to improve as players. You know what I've been thinking lately? I see how winning a championship springboards certain secondary players into superstar status and wonder if it would've happened without the championship and primary star. -
100% this. Like, ridiculously so. If and when Reggie Miller enters the Hall of fame, he will be either be the worst entrant in the history of the hall to get in, or damn close. He averaged 18, 3, and 2. There are 500 other players (exaggerating for effect) with the same stats as him. He buried a few clutch shots in Madison Square Garden. /HOF credentialsagain, because he "liked to play " against MJ, doesn't mean he challenged MJ. that's LOL funny to say. Playing one playoff series at the end of the Jordan era in Chicago ( and losing the series) isn't exactly challenging him. Simmons basic point, which was mine, was that Ray Allen toiled on lousy teams for most of his career, while reggie miller was in the spotlight, and a disproportionate amount of Reggie's reputation was built on games and series that occurred in NYC. As simmons points out, allen is better than miller at every single part of the game, including 3 point shooting, which is miller's only great strength. The only thing you can say is that Reggie is more " clutch" than allen, and the clutchness of a player, most of the time, is such an utter fraudulent thing that only exists in fan's mind. It's a product of small samples sizes and selective memory, for the most part. Why is the NYC games considered clutch but he's game seven games not considered chokes? IN every quantifiable sense Allen is better than Miller, and the only way you can continue to argue miller is your a utter homer. -
Congrats you two. Which event are ya'll playing?
This is the event I am playing as well. We'll have to meet up sometime that day and say hi.I am planning to play in Event #28 (starts on June 13th)

A new or a 1-2 year old Accord or Camry is essentially the same thing as long as you get it from a reputable place. You likely won't have issues with either model, or for that matter, most non Chrysler makes period. I personally would never buy a new car again since it depreciates so fast in those first 1-2 years, but tons of people don't care about that and want to be the first driver, and that's fine. The industry is going to make money whether or not you lease, buy new, buy used, finance, don't finance, whatever. Do what is best for you situation and don't worry about how much money they are making. To say leases are bad for everyone is ridiculous. It would be like saying that no one should ever live in an apartment. There are situations where it is the right thing to do, and if you want it and it has value to YOU, how can you be getting screwed?

What? The Bulls with Jordan played in the pacers one time in the entire decade of the 1990's.

Fair statement...I agree with itI'd take Lebron over Wilkens too, but downplaying how good Nique was is silly. Lebron is the evolution of the type of player Wilkens was. -
Jesus Christ, let it go alreadyI don't know anything about the guy, I just hate I don't get in because I made one comment about him being holier than thou (which he is doing again, but I digress). I enjoyed following the progress of Nosup/mark, Jordan, zimmer, hoos, nutz and all the other people that posted their hand history's/charts.But oh well. I'm not an Rdog BFF. -
I don't have a ton of time again:1) The numbers of players that averaged over 9 rebounds a game in the last 15 years. If you go back into the 80's, you'll probably find more. 93-94 - 2098-99 - 1403-04 - 1506-07 - 1108-09- 9I'm not saying anything about "leading his team in rebounds". I'm comparing him to Nique.2) The hand checking rule is a fair point, but overall team athleticism and team defensive concepts are so much more advanced than they were in the 80's it negates it. You don't see many slow, unathletic white guys that can just shoot and do nothing else get much playing time anymore. Teams would much rather have someone that can't shoot quite as good, but is an athletic freak.3) Pick one. Lebron has no rings. People have argued that is because of the quality of players around him more than his game. You have argued that those players weren't that bad. A few posts ago you said his numbers could be inflated by playing on bad teams. Are you retracting that statement? Which is it? He's having his best season ever on a great team. Do you have a rebuttal for that?4) The east is not, by far, the weaker conference. They had the 3 of the 4 best teams this year, and every team but one was at least decent. The west had 5 atrocious teams, and 8 teams better than everyone but the top 3 in the East. It evens out.

This is NOT adjusted for pace, which I'm pretty positive was significantly higher in the mid 80's. About the only thing Nique does better is shoot free throws at a 5% better clip and....well, that's it.Oh yeah, Nique also won a slam dunk contest, made an all rookie team, and had a bunch of overseas accomplishments. As far as his numbers being inflated for the two reasons you mentioned:1) Playing on a shitty team didn't hurt Lebron this year since they led the East in wins and he is among the top PER for a single season in the history of the league. Earlier in the thread I could quote dozens of examples of you saying the player on the Cavs weren't all that bad, they're in the NBA, he has no titles with them, etc etc. Now suddenly the teams were shitty? Pretty hypocritical.2) I couldn't find his splits against the East and the West with a quick search. Would you like me to dig deeper? I don't think it will help your case much. Do you really think there is a huge difference in his numbers based on which conference his team played over his first six years?

When Gordon gets hot, he is as streaky a scorer as there is in the league. Has been sicne he came into the league. It's a joy to watch. No one this side of JR Smith gets hotter, faster, out of nowhere, and can maintain it no matter what defense is thrown at him. He CANNOT be stopped.Does that make up for his atrociuos defense and his lack of ways to create scoring and involve his teammates on the nights he isn't sizzling (to go along with no rebounding or toughness whatsoever)? I'll let the Bulls .500 record through his five seasons as the Bulls primary scorer (with equally average NBA teammates) answer that question for you. He cannot take a team to the next level. He is a great sixth man, or a decent second or third scorer on a contendor. To say anything else would ignore the mediocrity the Bulls have had with him as a primary weapon. He simply doesn't bring enough to the table on a night by night basis to be considered a superstar in the league, or really anywhere close to it to be honest. He does it on a a semi regular basis. -
I am glad these accomplishments were listed. They really help validate the comparison.* 1x FIBA World Championship Gold Medal 1994 * 1x Greek Cup Champion 1996 * 1x Greek Cup MVP 1996 * 1x Euroleague Champion 1996 * 1x Euroleague Finals Most Valuable Player Award 1996 -
Please let's not get started with the Lebron fanboy stuff in this thread too. The third sentence in your paragraph is totally unrelated to any Hall of Fame discussion.I mean, I get your point...would you rather a career made up of a 6 time MVP who is an average NBA player his other 10 seasons, or a 14 time All Star who is never in the top 3 of MVP voting?I think there are room for both types of players though depending on their specific accomplishments.I don't know if any of you read the baseball writer Bill James but he ranks players in two different ways - career value and peak valuepeak value being how good you were at your absolute bestto me Lebron's peak value is so much higher than someone like Ray Allen it's a jokehas there really ever been a single year where if you chose the 5 best players in the league Ray Allen would be one of them? -
I don't care about any of those things (LOL @ All star MVP's). Except for titles and scoring titles, those things are all subjective based on a handful or writers who may or may not have any clue what they are doing and may or may not be biased. I'm looking at overall performance involving every aspect of the game. Hard data. Stats. Facts.Based on what exactly?Titles... noneMVP's... noneScoring titles.... 1all star games ... 5all star MVP's... 2 (Should only be 1)all nba first team... 2all nba second team... 2If you really think that is the greatest 5 years any player in nba history has had I have to wonder how long you have watched basketball. -
I've done some research into my claim and can determine that the only person in the history of the game to have a claim at having a better first 6 seasons is Jordan. And it's close, with most numbers giving Jordan a slight edge. So let me amend my original statement...LeBron James is having one of the two greatest first six seasons of an NBA career in NBA history, depending on where you want to rank him and Jordan.
-
Yes I am saying the latter. And I agree with the former.yeah, the MVP and Championship catagories should be considered incomplete, for now. That said, I think it's hyperbole to say that this 6 year stretch that any player's ever had in the NBA. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that it's the best first 6 years of a players career ( in the post-Wilt era, at least). No one has been as good, as young as Lebron. -
Someone on here pointed out how far Vinny walks out onto the court when a TO is called, and since then I watch him do it every time and I want to punch somebody every time I see it.Vinny's mannerisms annoy me. I hate how he calls timeout, then walks halfway out onto the court by himself and looks like he's trying to act like a hardass. Also, when the Bulls score, he'll move from near the end of the coach's box and walk back toward the bench with his arms folded across his chest. Stand still, douchebag.

I can ony assume that Wade isn't on the list because of some sort of minimum requirement that hasn't been hit yet. I can't find it on the site so I don't know what it is. They came in the league at the same time so that clearly isn't it, but it excludes a lot of players from that draft class except for James.Also...One of the reasons Nash is a shoo in is that he is a 2 time MVP award. However, one could argue that he didn't deserve one or both of those awards. Do you think he would be in otherwise?None of that explains how Lebron is 6 and Wade is N/A.Yes, he missed 30+ games last year. Otherwise, their numbers are pretty similar and Wade has had more team success (Shaq had slowed down noticeably by 2006 anyways). I can understand Lebron being above Wade but not by so much. -
Jada's post got me thinking. Here is a list of the top 15 most likely Hall of Famers (active players only ) from basketball-reference.com.The question:If they retired TODAY, who's in, who's out? If you want to expand by talking about who you think will get in based off of their future performance, that's cool...but I don't see how there's anyway to know right now if Gilbert Arenas will end up being a Hall of Famer.1. Shaquille O'Neal 1.0000 2. Tim Duncan 1.0000 3. Kobe Bryant 1.0000 4. Kevin Garnett 1.0000 5. Allen Iverson 1.0000 6. LeBron James 0.9993 7. Dirk Nowitzki 0.9984 8. Steve Nash 0.9972 9. Jason Kidd 0.9842 10. Tracy McGrady 0.9782 11. Paul Pierce 0.9386 12. Ray Allen 0.9085 13. Vince Carter 0.8975 14. Grant Hill 0.7951 15. Tony Parker 0.5793 16. Gilbert Arenas 0.5431 I don't have much time so I'll add more thoughts later. The top 5 are in. Lebron would be close, if you want to give someone the "Jim Brown" effect I think he's in too. Dirk and Nash are probably in though I think they are both overrated. Kidd is in for sure. McGrady...really? I guess he had 4 or 5 dominant scoring years but I didn't expect to see him here. I'm 50/50 on him but the probablity here says he's almost certainly getting in. Pierce is probably in and with another title he's 100% in. Same goes for Allen. Carter...eh. Again, had some huge seasons but I wouldn't vote him in. The last three are certainly not in in my eyes (I guess I could have left the last two off the list)What do you think?
-
I think it goes without saying that Lebron doesn't have the longetivity of other established Hall of Famers. He's played six NBA seasons. In those six NBA seasons he has had historic accomplishments which have never been seen before. It has been the most dominant six year stretch of any player in NBA history, and it's also his first six years in the league. Based on his accomplishments alone on the court so far, he is already a top 50 NBA player of all time. With three more great seasons, he will move into the top 10. There's no way to know how his body will respond when he reaches his 30's, but I would call it extremely likely you are currently watching one of the top 5 most dominant basketball players who has ever played the game. And your already calling him better than Larry Bird... really? He could go out tomorrow drive to the basket get undercut shatter his leg and never play the same again. Stop making him the greatest player who ever lived 5 years into his career. -
This.Jesus Christ what a great game. -
Just wanted to post a funny Seinfeld clip
