  1. Am I the only one that's going to admit to being the professor. For a second there, I thought you were one of my buddies from my weekly game talking about me. I admit that I'm ultra competitive no matter what I'm doing and poker is no different. I've been trying to not be so critical lately, but I think I'll always be "that guy".

  2. I think its a good fold.Correct me if I'm wrong but you are acting after Trini and before Lass so you dont know that Lass will be in the pot and cant count her bets into the equation.Your only clean outs are the 4 2's and 6 clubs (don't count the 2 of clubs twice, plus you don't want the 8 or 3 of clubs as there is a great chance that gives someone a boat). You can't count the 7's as that would give you the dummy end of the straight and they call it the dummy end for a reason, especially in omaha. That's 10 clean outs for your river card. You dont have anywhere near the odds that you need to make this call.

  3. The main question is:If you KNOW that you're losing the hand right now to a straight (which is favorable) or a higher set (drawing to one out), do you make the call or do you lay it down?
You have 1 clean out with the case 2.You have 9 outs that may give you a win. (3 Aces, 3 3's, and 3 of whatever comes on the turn). Since you said you were 50/50 on the straight/overset read, you count these as 4.5 outs.So you have 5.5 outs with 2 cards to come. You presume that the flush drawer doesnt have any of your outs, which means your percentage 43/11 or basically 4 to 1. It's early so my math might be off but i think thats right.
  4. Sam Rockwell and Mark Ruffalo. Very underrated and very entertaining. Anyone seen Safe Men? Had both of them in it. Hysterical. Every character is a winner. Paul Giamatti and Harvey Feinstein too. Sweet stache, bro.Nobody messes with the CHOP.Anyone?

  5. 1) I've been reading Harrington a lot (love it) and he outlines some basics for raising in an unopened pot. I plpay conservatively pre-flop and was pretty much doing that, but he doesnt mention what kinds of hands he would just call with? Any ideas for a conservative player?2) I'm having trouble deciding if I'm playing A-x suited right when x is 10 or lower. I usually raise it shorthanded or at a large table in an unopened pot from late position, and call everywhere else. Any part of that donkish?

  6. Greatest hits albums are complied for marketability.....or else half of my favorite albums might be greatest hits albums. Yes I have owned the Eagles greatest hits for a long time , but I would consider Hotel California to be their greatest recording achievement. Granted I am impressed that it has sold so many copies. I think in due time The Wall is capable of catching it in sales, who knows for sure though.
mbreon, my friend, i was impressed with the love you show for the fantastic Velvet Underground, but am disappointed to hear you are an Eagles fan...where am I going wrong on my view of the Eagles...very mediocre lyrics, little creativity/originality, overrated ability (any band could create that sound with that number of guitarists...see Lynyrd Skynyrd)...also, greatest hits cannot count as greatest album...if it could Shaq would the greatest album of all time
  7. I am saying that if an album is truly great, it will outsell those Agueilera (sp?) albums IN THE LONG RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, those pop albums will sell big for a short period of time, but good music has more longevity and will continue to sell for a long time. So in this way, all-time album sales do mean something... man, i wish people would start reading my threads in their entirety and actually considering them before irrationally responding, seriously...i know these pop albums that sell a high number real quickly are not as good as the Clapton album, but eventually, the clapton album, if it is really that good, will outsell it
What's your excuse for The Eagles being the best selling...probably the most over-rated band of all time
  8. uh..AC DC does put out good music, go search for the highest selling albums of all time and see what you find
what i found was 2 backstreet boys, 2 britney spears, and an n'sync album in the top 70 or so....some other of your favorites???sales don't mean jack.

LOUD NOISES!!!!!.....Can't believe this thread is still going strong....Couple more points...a couple of people brought up the new Sufjan Stevens as album of the year... I can't believe I forgot to nod that, though it's kind of apples and oranges to the Danger Doom albumPeople keep mentioning White Stripes... nice band but not band of the decade...about the argument if they are a garage band or not, listen to their self-titled album, though they have gotten a lot more diversified (and better) since that...and by the way, Meg White is Jack's ex-wife, not girlfriend, check out the last namesPearl Jam and Bruce are good nods for live shows, but no U2???? That's shameful...And forgot to mention the Jack White/Bob Dylan...Jack's talented as hell, but Bobby D, come on!... maybe I'm living in a cave, but last time I checked Jack White isn't leading a cultural revolution
In terms of live shows, nothing beats AC DC, watching their Live at Donnington DVD is ridiculous, and they are insane in concert. White Stripes are not a garage band, maybe their first CD sounded so becuase they were underfunded or whatever, but their style of music is COMPLETELY different than a garage band (i.e. their latest CD has a number of slower songs, something which is not charactristic of a garage band). Also, if you will read my posts, I explicitly state that White is not as culturally significant as Dylan, I just said that his lyrical style, though of a different subject matter than Dylan's, is better than anyone else today, and therefore is as close to Dylan as we will see in the next 20 years
AC/DC might be a good live show if they played good music, you reiterated my point about the garage band thing, and to even say "Jack White", "Bob Dylan", and "lyrical style" in the same sentence is sheer lunacy...am I not seeing your "sw" or something....

  11. I step away for an hour or two and look what happens to my thread..ridiculous...Radiohead is no longer the best band in the world after three consecutive average albumsColdplay only really has three albums so you really really have to wait on them before making "best band" statementsTool.......really? These are the same people that think Dream Theater is the standard by which modern rock n roll should live byWhy hasn't anyone mentioned U2 or REM? Too good for too long maybe?Someone posted about earlier bands and mentioned the Eagles in the same breath with the Beatles....seriously? If you want to make an out-on-a-limb pick, go with the Kinks...vastly underrated both in musical originality and influence

  12. Madvillain was the second best album of last year... Chilltown, NY by Erick Sermon was #1 IMO, glad to hear other people listening to Doom though
Better than the Doom...really???Have not heard it, but I guess I'll have to check it out.
  13. Kanye West=flavor of the month. Hip Hop or whatever doesn't have any staying power. While I don't agree with GD as the best band in the last 10 years, I will say they are still good quality stuff. How many hip hop artists are putting out quality albums that were doing it ten years ago?
Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Kool Keith, Del The Funkee Homosapien and Hieroglyphics, Prince Paul.. the list goes on.
  14. Come on Suited, you're from Chicago, you should know the best band of the last decade, Wilco. Sweet, this is my 200th post.
I like that nod. I'd also put up Modest Mouse and Belle and Sebastian for a solid top 3
  15. I've heard the grey album... and while I think it's impressive what he did.. I didn't find it more enjoyable to listen to ya know? But yeah, I know who he is, not the other one though.
Trust me.. get Madvillain... easily best album of 2004... my friends like to say the Arcade Fire, but I think Madvillain is better
  16. I dont know what that means... But I just put the new Kanye West on my Ipod, I think i'll listen to that now actually.
I've heard that's fantastic as well.Danger Mouse did the Grey album, mix of the Beatles White album and Jay Z's Black album.MF Doom did last year's best album in my opinion, Madvillain.
