  1. I called the flop and bet the river because I had my opponent on exactly king high, or possibly worse.
If that is the case, shouldn't you check the river hoping to induce a bluff? He sounds passive and would most likely check behind with an ace or better king.
The biggest mistake these guys all make is that they pay off way too much
When the 8 hit the turn, though, I figured I had to bet in case he has king high or decides to fold ace high there
Which one is it? If he pays off too much, he isn't folding A high for sure, and will call many if any king highs. I think that your weak K high is best as a bluff catcher, based on what you've told us of the villain so far. A read on the villain in the original post is always nice :club:
...(it's actually the right play vs. me for sure)
Just because YOU know it's the right play, doesn't mean that that thought ever even crossed his mind ;)PS- Don't flame me guys, I know it's DN and all, but people regularly get ripped on much worse for posting hands without reads and such. When posting hands in strat it shouldn't matter who you are, there should be constructive criticism given.
  2. As long as you have enough chips to cap every street (for those rare times you hit a monster), it doesn't matter. The only exception that I can think of is on a site where they have uncapped bets when heads up on the river, and there is a maniac around who will 5+ bet into you with poor or non-nut holdings. In that case make sure you have him covered :club:

  3. As they say, easy come, easy go. You won 30 buyins in a month, that is some savagely good variance right there.Remember that it's a long run game. It's easy to get on a rush and think you are the best ever and able to leave up a buyin or two every night. But you're also bound to have the terrible nights, it's just the flip side of the good variance that you just experienced.

  4. That's not true.85% of it comes back to you, 15% goes to the house.Or maybe 10%, either way, it's not a neutral EV situation.
Okay, that 10% "admin fee" is pretty bogus (I just looked it up on party's site). B&M tables that have BBJ's don't take any admin fee as far as I know, so at least there it would be neutral EV.
  5. Omaha (especially PLO) can be very frustrating. Today I played a short session of PLO ring games where all my bluffs got called and all my 2nd nut hands (sometimes even with redraws) were losers to the nuts :club: Oh and one hand where I had the nut straight with a flush draw, and the guy with the same straight as me backdoored a different flush. That sucked.

  6. Well from their perspective you could have the nut flush, since your actions (smooth call the club flop, check the scare card, value bet the river) are consistent with that... Button could well have a hand like 52/62, but when the SB 3bets the river that hard, I think we are looking at a straight flush or quads here...

  7. You committed your stack when you 4bet preflop. Not a great flop, but shove anyways. FWIW I often just call in spots like that preflop because raising $15 more, with still fairly deep stacks and out of position (as well as turning our hand face up) usually ends poorly for us.
