  1. If you are losing, alway plug big leaks FIRST, then move to the smaller ones1. GAME SELECTION, are you playing too high to make the right play, are you playing tough games. If you are playing tough games, don't expect a good earn. Are you playing too high for your bankroll.2. GAME ADJUSTMENT are you adjusting to the players, or are you making the same "plays" no matter who is there. You must know that certain plays work better at certain tables than others ... make sure your not on autopilot.3. BASICS are you playing too many hands, starting with the wrong hands in the wrong position, overplaying when you know your beat, or not calling when you are sure that you could win more times than you would lose.4. FLOP, TURN RIVER are you making mistakes late in the hand? For mistakes later in the hand, I like to switch to other games (Omaha, and Stud 8). By switching to these other games for a little while, I find that I think more about the play on the turn and river.4. IF ALL OF THESE are OK in your mind, don't discount that you could be running bad. We have all had weeks where we never hit a draw, never flopped a set, and generally ran card dead ... if the cards are bad, spend time documenting other players for later use.hope that helps.

  2. You are early in a tournament. Please do not comment on the play that takes us to the decision point.10 person tableQQ in middle position. 10- 20 blinds.UTG Raises to 100you calltwo seats behind you a DONK calls. Two hands earlier you watched this ...DONK Middle position 87 offButton QK offFlop A92 rainbow, DONK check, Button raise 150, DONK CallTurn, 3, DONK check, Button raise 300, DONK CallRiver 7, DONK bet 100 Button call.Followed by "I just knew the 7s were good from DONK.Back to our hand.Flop 3 5 3UTG bets out 350you look to your left and see DONK look down at his chips, touch the top of the chips and look at UTG guy. What next?

  3. You are the BB and you have QQ. You have 9800 in chips, the table average is about twice that with 3 stacks that are 30,000 to 50,000. You are not the shortest stack.Blinds are 600/1200 with an ante.Full Table: Fold, Fold, Fold, 1200 call, Fold, 5500 bet, Fold, All in (30,000)The all in bet was from a large stack who had been pushy and had just lost a big pot, to the 1200 caller.Generally speaking, I dont mind pushing here because I am below par and have to pick a hand here soon and ride it. However I have been finishing deep in a lot of tournaments but not making any final tables.Earlier I folded AK off on the BB to a raise for all of my chips. I dont like to call with AK (but I like to raise with it)WHADDYATHINK?Ray

  4. Many of you will go an entire lifetime without being mentioned in DNs blog ... I'm reading DNs Blog and all of a sudden THERE I AM ... this may be the closest I come to poker fame ... I guess.Last year, I entered the logo contest, and didn't even get selected as a finalist. Of course I made a logo with 10 6 offsuit.Which brings me to my other DN story ... DN was playing heads up against Barry Greenstein at the Wynn. I dropped by to watch them play 7 stud Hi/Lo. After sweating DN for awhile he looks over at the rail where I'm at and says hi. I say hi, and tell him that I entered the logo contest. And he tells me about all of the entries that have a hockey theme or a 10 7 offsuit theme ... at that point I interrupt and tell him that I did a logo with 10 6 off ... his head tilts slightly to the side, eyes squint a little and he says something like .. "huh?" Why did you do that? I tell him that I figured EVERYONE would use 10 7 so I would be different and use 10 6 .... Hmm ... he says, considers his down cards and mucks them ... Hmm ...I don't get it, he says ....Why is it so difficult to explain a bad idea?Ray

  5. I have played my way into the semi final for SEAT ONE in the DN Protege contest. I play down to three players.Chip Leader 23 K or soSecond 19 K or soMe 18K or thereaboutsBlinds 2000/4000THE LIGHTS GO OUT (actually my son cranks up his game which routinely stuffs the wireless net at our house)A little bit of a mad scramble to the router to reset. I couldn't have been off three or maybe four hands.Reestablishing connection and VOILA 8500 chips.... a little bit of a handicap (the table needed it). I rally knock out #2, and reduce #1 to a 8,000 chip stack. He fights back to within 10 K. AQ v 88 (8 on the flop) and he has most of the chips, and wins shortly thereafter...can't say it wasnt funRay

  6. Once again, I am not a limit expert, but it seems to me that this play works if other players are tight and you are not perceived as more than semi=loose (25%).Generally, and once again this is just me, I think plays best chance is when it is set up by your inaction in the last 6 to 8 hands, or a slow play that goes to showdown. What do you do when you get called (not raised), and hit on the river?Ray

  7. ... I think you call there. The small Blind has played like they have AK or another pocket pair, I believe at this point you have won the hand. His or Her last bet was an AK bet, or a represent AK (QQ) bet.The K certainly is NOT a scare card to you.If you raise and are reraised you are clearly beat, unless you are playing an absolute wingnut.Your call on the end is correct whether you win or lose...Just my opinionRay

  8. I don't know if there is anyway to detect poker tracker. I do know that it really doesn't make a difference. The other poker player could be sitting there with a pencil and paper tracking your play ... and would that be cheating????Its not like any site is going to ban this, it is just a statistical helper. It doesn't tell me what you are going to do -- or what the next card will be ...Its usefulness for me is when playing multiple tables, ... after a player raises and it is folded to me, for exeample, I can see if the raiser has put money in the last 5 consecutive hands, I can see whether he raises everytime, I can see the frequency of a reraise ... All the program does is allow me to play several tables at once, without having to keep track of the action on each table. My belief is that it is undetectable, because I imagine that it pulls the hand history and assembles the data from there.Ray

  9. I have used Poker Tracker for about a year. You can set up Poker Tracker to tell you how stuck a person is for that session, how many hands they enter a pot for, and many others. When playing multiple tables, poker tracker can help give you some idea whether to make that tough call, or bluff. I usually play 10/20 limit and poker tracker can pay for itself in one hand.As an addition to poker tracker, make sure and get heads up ace. This program yanks the poker tracker numbers and overlays them on the table (that way you don't have to bring poker tracker up to see what the stats are.... Also you can see what hands they folded (because it will just show them) instead of combing through hand histories.Ray

  10. I received an email that talked about up coming FCP freerolls for charter members, I guess that means I'm on that list. They haven't updated the my account section, where I should have a ticket to the charter members with over 2500 FCP ticket, oh wellI am continuing to play 5/10 and 10/20 to build my bankroll as well as my FCP points so that there will be a couple of seats that I can qualify for.Today is the Party Poker Million so I will be on line over there too.Ray
