  1. ya, Bob pretty much confirmed it now. That is a very good trade for Ottawa, I like Lehner but getting #21 overall for a goalie is a nice move.

A 21st for a goalie AND a salary dump (1year @ 3m for Legwand). I think I still like Lehner better than Hammond but the team does have some promising goalies in the pipeline.

**** being a "budget" team sucks.

  2. STL traded Rundblad who was drafted 17th overall to OTT for 16th overall in another draft. They then chose Tarasenko with the pick. I may have the 16 and 17 mixed up lol

Ya, Ottawa traded the 16th for Rundblad (who they ended up flipping for Turris). You could say Tarasenko would have been a Senator but current strategy is to play it safe in the first round I doubt they would have ever drafted him.

  3. If I saw the results right, he got 6 1st-place votes for the Hart!? Top votes are not really deserved, but pretty goddamn awesome, and finishing top-5 in Hart and Vezina sure is incredible, especially for a guy that was getting crap minutes for the Oilers not long ago.

didn't get a sniff in Montreal and was actually playing in Hamilton.

Seems like he's been a discussion point for the talking heads for a while (they seem to love/hate), no idea what his underlying numbers are but wonder this contributes anything to the fancy stats discussion.

  4. Not trolling but curious why can't Kessel, a young guy, become a two way player? I look at Yzerman who was purely offensive and completely changed his game to suit the coaches need and did so. Older players like Luc, Shanny, and Hull came in and added defense to their game. Why can't Kessel?

Christ.... they spent a decade around here trying to make Spezza a 2-way player but that didn't work out. Be careful before you you jump on that train.

Also Kessel is a winger -- the franchise 2-way player I was calling for is a C.

  5. The knock on Phil isnt that he is a pure goal scorer..Its that in todays NHL, your best player, your franchise player has to bring you more than that..If we are to believe what we hear and read( and surely it maybe speculation) is that Shanahan, Babcock believe to win a Cup in this town, it cant be with Phil as our best player.

More... the player (best?) that you are building around should be a center with some 2-way capability.

  6. To me there has to be more to it than just the number of guns. I dont know what it is, but it has to be something in the psyche, because lets face it, if I wanted to get a gun, how hard would it really be for me to find one illegally? Even legally I imagine I could get a shotgun fairly soon, even as a Canadian.

There was an interesting TED talk about gun control from a General from Belgium?. Pretty much every citizen has an assault rifle at home (reserves) but they stay safely locked away in the basement except for on duty. IMHO it's not just about having the guns (which, after all, are protected right) but the time, place and most importantly type of guns that are being weilded.

  7. So how about you just assume MacKenzie tells the truth as it is, and that sometimes things change over time?

It's absurd to rip someone so clearly connected if information changes after he reports it. It's like completely ignoring how the world functions.

Ripping people for changing their PoV based on new info is EXACTLY how the world functions.

  8. Let's all be honest... the best thing about Babs coming to TO is it exposed Bob Mackenzie for the idiot that he is!

He has since deleted the famous "not coming to TO' tweet.

To be fair most? pundits completely underestimated MLSE's willingness to unload the Brinks truck / give him power.

  9. Huge percentage of people( I used to be one) dont venture to far off strip. Lots of stuff to do.

    Let see what else..

    1. Did the Canyon helicopter ride (actually set down on the canyon floor and have lunch). Decent and considering a bus tour is $100-$250 (+ $32 for the skywalk) it was steep but one of those once-in-a-lifetime crap things to do. Though something like https://www.pinkjeep...elicopter-tour/ (raft down the canyon) might be better value.

    2. Mob Museum... did in 1.5 hrs but probably need 3.

    3. Food; with all of the Celebrity chefs it's all a ****ing ripoff. Liked Mon Ami Gabbi at Paris -- friends gave everything at the cosmo the thumbs up.

  10. I rent a car everytime I m there...We will be there soon to look for a house..But not yet Im sorry..

You can visit Red Rock area..Its beatiful...If you really want to drive, you can do Hoover Dam..I have never done that.

I would definetely go to the Outlet Mall..Its pretty impressive..

Valley of Fire is pretty awesome as well (never been to the Red Rock area but understand they have a similar setup -- the main road is a big loop with trails of different lengths coming off of them). If you have the time (45 minutes extra) take the scenic route there though Lake Meade National Park.

Oh if you like thai food then you must check out Lotus of Siam (couple blocks east of the Stratosphere). Very sketchy looking but it's Zagat rated and it's sufficiently reknown that taxis will wait outside. The standard stuff is basically what you can get in Ottawa (top notch) but the other stuff is ++++.

ps Serge: if your family loves the outlets in Vegas then you might want to check out the new Tager outlets out by CTC (Ottawa)... similar setup.

  11. If only people were willing to get tested and donate for non-famous people too!

The big problem is that organ donation in Canada/US is opt-in, unlike some countries which are opt-out, so the pool of candidates is a lot smaller. Also in terminal cases (like head trauma/motorcycle accidents) I'm pretty sure the family has the final say and if the person hasn't discussed it with them....

  12. Not sure why, the Sens run just hasnt gripped me. I think its because I just dont believe in Hammond, and dont really like him, though thats probably for "pool" reasons than anything else.

I have no doubt he's a flash in the pan... nothing in his pedigree would indicate that success is sustainable. Though (at least early on) his biggest weakness is his inability to trap the puck, gives up (well directed) rebounds all of the time. Though maybe all he needed was a professional level defence to recover the puck?

My prediction is that the Senators will have a Cinderella run for a few series and then completely bomb out. It will be fun while it lasts.
