I was at lunch with two people, one of them being the comp decision maker. He was trying to needle me, asking when I am getting married to my girlfriend. I told him itíll be three years, which led to follow up questions, where I basically said I donít know where Iím going in my career and she isnít going to leave this town. He starts asking probing questions about whether I want to move away, etc. Itís all just one big poker game.

The reason I liked SMH is the same reason really that IW isn't on my list. I like more personal stories rather than big spectacles that rush through character development and try to do 10 things at once. I loved Vulture (who is a corny, terrible villain in the comic). He was well developed and even likable.
Spoiler

All of the action was well executed and impactful, none of the cgi vs cgi wars between armies that are boring and lack any tension. Plus, I generally love the Tony vs Spiderman dynamic. Also PP was the first credible PP onfilm. He was perfect as Parker.

I took a mental health day so of course I get an email string fwd from the manager of another department wanting to speak to me about the snarky tone one of my directs used in telling the accountants that tech support's role isn't to do their reconciliation for them. Monday should be fun.

it's always surprising how people are more upset at the person pointing out how they shouldn't do some moron's job for him than at the moron for being a moron.

I’m going to lunch with one of the guys that had input on how this raise cycle is getting handled, and I’ve decided I’m just going to be honest about the fact that everyone I’ve discussed this with has asked me if I work for a clown company. In a non-confrontational way, of course.

ant man above anything is just insane.
But Paul Rudd is a national treasure.

Also, I will agree that Iron Man 3 catches a lot more shit than it deserves and is thus underrated, but there are just so many good MCU movies.

Oh, and this is basically the worst time to be ****ing with people. A quick look around shows that everyone in asset management is hiring and has ambitious expansion plans, because the entire industry now has 20%+ more revenue for no additional effort due to the market uptick over the last 18mos. The job market in this industry is extremely tilted toward the applicant right now.

Yeah. A good chunk of management watches Billions. The CEO compares me to Taylor actually, we dress similar, have the same haircut.

The original plan was to do small raises this month, and then again in December, and that would serve as the transition to the new December cycle. The whole issue is ridiculous. It apparently created a ton of animosity in leadership, and I just want to repeat back to everyone: you’re literally trying to merge the two different performance review cycles into one—and somehow failing.

Part of why I think it got to be so contentious is because the non-advisor track employees have always resented the comp differences, and this was their shot to send a message. They want the company to be more like a standard job, where 5% is doing lights out work. My boss has always been in the “pay advisors less” contingent, which is why I got left to this 18mo wait (my theory). Multiple others in the company (HR, accounting) have made comments to me about how great I’m doing for my age, and I have always bit my tongue, but really, we have a committee that makes these decisions. You just process the paperwork. That doesn’t entitle you to judge my paycheck.

1. Empire
2a. New Hope
2b. Rogue One
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Solo
6. Phantom Menace (I actually really like Phantom. Probably more than almost anyone outside of George Lucas. I LOVED the podrace.)
7. Force Awakens (I love Daisy Ridley. She's fantastic.)
8. Attack of the Clones (I really like most of this movie as well. It only breaks down for me toward the end. I love the water planet.)
9. Last Jedi (I hated how they handled Luke and his whole arc in this movie.)
10. Revenge of the Sith (I just hate Hayden Christensen so much. He's such a terrible actor, and he has a major role in this film.)

Wrong thread. Please keep your top 10 lists in the proper place

Well, hopefully it doesn't fall through then, because that stuff will be outdated in about 12 months.

Are you getting any updates on that? Is your realtor keeping in touch with the owners about their house hunt?

You try reading Feast for Crows a third time. It's not fun.

I watch the TV series at least once per year but have little desire to read the books again for just that reason.

Iím good thanks

I am so fast and loose with spending now that I donít have the monthly payment. When I bought my condo, multiple friendsí wives straight to my face told me I was stupid. Not in a joking way, like actually condescending. I donít know what it is about the certain type of girl, to just openly be mean like that. The contrast today is ridiculous. They both have houses in the $400-600k range, nice areas of town. Blows my mind, $6-9k/yr in just property tax.

Not to say I wonít someday live in a $500k house. I plan to do it when I have more security in my job and finances, and actually have a need for all that space. My CEO, otherwise great guy, but very aware of who has a huge mortgage vs. who has a lot of latitude in their employment, and Iím certain it gets brought up during raise/promotion discussions. Itís probably even more top of mind now, because we just lost an advisor who had a spouse with huge income. (I.e. quit and said, ďI really donít need your shitĒ on the way out the door.)

Seth Rogen is at best tolerable.

Of Apatow players, Rudd and Segel are miles above.
