http://www.pokernews.com/news/2011/12/22-p...12-WS-11548.htm22 Players Confirmed for $1 Million Buy-In Tournament at 2012 World Series Of PokerDecember 05 2011, Brett CollsonOn Monday, Caesars Interactive Entertainment announced that 22 players have already committed to the Big One for One Drop, the $1 million buy-in tournament taking place at the 2012 World Series of Poker. The event will run from July 1 through 3, 2012, at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and will award the first-ever platinum WSOP bracelet to the winner. The Big One for One Drop will boast the largest buy-in poker has ever seen. The no-limit hold’em tournament was introduced in June by ONE DROP Chair and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, whose focus with the historic event is to support access to clean water worldwide. Of the $1 million buy-in, $111,111 will be donated to ONE DROP with a goal of raising enough money for a legacy project that will see a needy country receiving access to clean water."Every gesture is important," said Laliberté. "The poker community is very generous and it is not only about the one million dollar buy-in event, there are other ways that poker players can make a difference."Here's a list of the players that have committed to the event so far:Guy LalibertéBobby BaldwinPhil RuffinAndy BealPatrik AntoniusGus HansenDaniel NegreanuJohnny ChanTom DwanTony GuogaJonathan DuhamelBertrand “ElkY” GrospellierSean O’DonnellDan ShakSeveral others have confirmed their participation in the event but wish to remain anonymous. I didnt realized Elky had that kinda bankroll. wonder how many of these people have pieces of each other. I would be surprised if anyone is fully vesting themselves into this one.1 in 22 chance for a bracelet. do we like this?

I think they'll get more than 35 players and maybe even reach the 48 player cap. There will be a lot of share selling and backing for sure in this one. What will be interesting to me is how many of the super high limit Chinese players come over from Macau and whether any of the poker playing actors who are regulars in the Hollywood home games play in it.

really interesting list. Anybody on the list who makes/has made most of their money from playing poker can't really be properly rolled for this.Do most of these players (btw I consider the following 'poker players' since the rest are millionaire/billionaires from outside poker; Antonius, Hansen, Negreanu, Chan, Dwan, Tony G, Duhamel, Elky) have enough business ventures outside of poker that they are either pretty secure for life and/or have made multiples of what they've made playing poker through business/real estate/venture capitalism etc.?I know Chan and Tony G have plenty of business interests, but is it enough so they can afford a $1m buy in?Poker winnings mixed with other income sources I assume would mean Antonius and Durrrrr can afford the buy-in (I would said comfortably afford the buy-in, but even saying that would be too much imo)Negreanu is probably one of the most marketable pros in the world, so if anyone has made big bucks from sponsorship/endorsements etc I assume it's him. Even so, $1m still must be the upper limit of his br. Hansen, Duhamel and Elky definitely are the most surprising inclusions on the list imo. I can't see how any of them have $10m+ bankrolls from poker and I also can't imagine any online sites putting up a substantial amount of the buy in. So is it a case of selling %s and just taking a shot (ie the difference in $6m and $5m ain't no biggy) or are these guys way richer than I give them credit for? Or are they all just crazy gamblers with no respect for money? I know a year ago I would've been much more inclined to think all these players could play this relatively easily, but after the whole black friday, Ivey, Benyamine, all these online grinders broke etc. stuff, I'd be definitely more wary of poker players and their money management. I'd be interested to hear from Daniel if he will have 100% of himself and also how much of the buy-in will be from his own pocket.looking forward to this anyway, great to have something like this on the poke calendar.

Do they really have to be properly rolled for this, though? It's not like the $1 million tournament is something they will be grinding on a weekly basis, so traditional bankroll management might not be applicable. Besides, if I lose half of my roll by taking a shot, it's a catastrophe. If these guys lose a million (which probably isn't even half of their bankroll), they are still going to be millionaires.

it's going to be a very interesting game for sure.I agree with Bob they will most likely hit the cap. I agree we will see more pro's in there selling some of there action. For the multi-millionaires like Guy Laliberté, and Ruffin I see the pros taking advantage of them. But of course they could call with any 2 cards and donk out the others as well. Can't wait to see this game.

Chan has supposedly been crushing the big Macau games from what I've heard so no surprise there. Surprised from seeing names like Elky and Duhamel as well. No Phil Hellmuth yet , odds he plays?

Generally speaking, Phil Helmuth would want to avoid this tourny because he understands that the buy is too big for his bankroll. But his ego might get the better of him and I wouldn't be surprised to see him join.In truth, this is a good spot for him- a NL tourney that is going to have some players squeezing a little bit due the buy in with a slow structure.

out of interest, any idea if Chan speaks Mandarin? I know Sam Trickett has begun taking lessons to learn so he can take part in the 'banter' and hopefully become a bit more accepted and be a regular on the invite list.I'd say Hellmuth is a favourite to play this. I'd imagine he can afford a million dollar buy-in and with the publicity etc. involved I'd be shocked if he didn't play.

ya that's what I was saying, is it just a case of these players putting like 15% of their net worth into the tournament because even if the lose it, it's not a big deal?

While I don't know if Mandarin speakers are traveling from elsewhere in China, Cantonese is the more widely spoken dialect in that region.

Gus plays in the highest stakes cash games. Unless all of his money was from loans from full tilt, he should be easily bankrolled for this.I could be wrong, but by seeing Elky and Duhamel, it is obvious that pokerstars has some kind of stake in their buyin.

The bolded would totally shock me.My guess is that Duhamel is being backed by Guy Laliberte as they're both from Quebec.

I'll take your word for it since you are involved with pokerstars lol. I didn't know that there was a connection with Duhamel and Guy

I agree with Bob there is for sure a connection with Duhamel and Guy Laliberte

If that is true, I wonder how all these other guys would feel about playing in a one million dollar 30-player tournament with a decent probability of ending up at a table with a player and the guy who backed him...

I think this bit of data changes your equation.

With all of the backing and swapping that's already going on I don't think this will really be that much different.

Hey Balloon guy, see what happens when you're only posting a handful of times every single day? People forget you. I'm going to prescribe a 20 post per day minimum at least until the new year combined with a new thread at least once a week. If this isn't effective, we'll work on a new strategy on keeping you in the limelight.
